There’s a first time for everything ☕️ Check out the VERY FIRST clip of #LoveVictor. Love, Victor premieres June 19 – only on Hulu. I'm making it own Thread ABOUT LOVE, VICTOR Set in the world of the 2018 groundbreaking film “Love, Simon,” the series follows Victor, a new student at Creekwood High School on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation. When it all seems too much, he reaches out to Simon to help him navigate the ups and downs of high school. The 10-episode dramedy explores Victor’s colorful and complex world, from his loving family, to his new friends and first crushes. Thanks for the clip and premiere date.
But do we really need a new thread for this? There is the existing Love, Simon (Disney+) thread that should be renamed, IMO. It's referring to the same show, just with an updated name and shifted to another platform.
I wish they'd given us a trailer and not a clip. Does anyone know if they will drop all episodes on June 19th or only the pilot?

Whatever you do, don't read the comments on Instagram. I made that mistake and now feel sick about the amount of hate towards cis gay men from the woke brigade (who, for all their wokeness, can't seem to differentiate between white and Latinx people).
There are exactly two - yes, grand total of TWO - shows in the whole world which have a gay male lead. This year, Netflix has put out shows with lesbian and trans leads. Other shows have actually erased their gay male leads in favour of lesbian, female bi or trans leads. It's not enough. They must drag Love, Victor for having a cis gay male lead before they even watch the show, which has an ethnically diverse cast (the main family are Latinx) and may well feature other segments of the LGBT community. And even if they had made the lead character a black trans girl - the same critics would be up in arms at the central premise of Simon, a white cis gay boy, presuming to offer her advice on matters in which he has no life experience. The show simply could not win either way.
We are truly on our own here. I am so done. They can have their LBT community; they've made it clear the gays are unwelcome there.
I hope Hollywood sees their nasty antics for what they are and doesn't allow them to influence their commissioning decisions in the future.

Why do folks feel the need to analyze a trailer. That is so extra. LOL

Being Latinx does not mean you are not White. And you can't always tell what someone "is" or how they identify based upon how they look. Are you saying that you literally believe there are only 2 shows IN THE WHOLE WORLD with a gay lead or are you just speaking of Netflix?

Are you saying that you literally believe there are only 2 shows IN THE WHOLE WORLD with a gay lead or are you just speaking of Netflix? So you should rush to judgment without knowing how the person identifies? Michael Cimino identifies as Puerto Rican, and the show is pretty clear that Victor and his family are Latinx. Denying people their racial identity, because their skin color is too light, is now considered woke? Do you realize how offensive that is? And yes, there are presently only two (English-language) shows with a gay male lead in the whole world. I'm not just talking about Netflix or streaming platforms, I mean the entire scripted television output of the Anglophone world. Those two shows are: Everything's Gonna Be Okay and Tales of the City. Both of those are from the US (and so will Love, Victor) - as far as I know, the UK, Canada, Australia and NZ don't have anything at present. I'll be happy to be proven wrong, but I don't think even continental Europe or Latin America have TV shows where the principal protagonist is a gay or bi male. The only country which seems to be regularly churning out shows with gay male leads is Thailand - and a look at these boards will tell you that. In contrast, you have The L Word, Batwoman, Feel Good, I'm Not Okay with This, Trinkets, The 100, Charmed ... these are just the American shows on-air at the moment which are led by queer women. And Skam Austin didn't make it to a third season but it had erased its gay male character in favour of a bi female one who would have been the principal protagonist of that season. (The same thing already happened in Skam Espana.)

I don't even count Tales of the City since it was a limited series.

Which two? I found the teaser really cute. I will never forgive Disney+ for dropping this series from their service. I hope they will be more daring than if it was on Disney+ They have already finished filming when they got moved to Hulu. So at least for the first season, expect the show to be at Disney-standard of daring (aka, not at all).

Yeah, given the whole first season was scripted and filmed last year, when they were still expected to air on Disney+, I can't see anything significant happening. The mature themes they quoted for moving it to Hulu were alcohol use and sexual exploration. My guess is some afterschool special about the dangers of intoxication and a couple of same-sex kisses. It's not likely they will depict gay sex, or sex of any kind (although I can see them doing a morning-after if Victor sleeps with a girl before confirming his sexual orientation).
And even if season 2 is a go, in the full knowledge that it's now a Hulu show, will they really scale up the sexual and other (ostensibly) adult themes, like drugs, abuse or consent? The success of season 1 would indicate the current formula works, so I'm not sure they will rock the boat too much. (Also, with what we know of the post-COVID return to filming, it seems likely intimate scenes of any kind will be off-limits, so you won't even get kissing, much less love scenes!)

Latinx is not a racial identity. THAT was my point. It is a cultural identity. That is something that Latinx people will tell you themselves. Puerto Rican is a cultural identity. You can be Puerto Rican and be mixed, white or black. This board has become so negative. Damn.

You can be Puerto Rican and be mixed, white or black. This board has become so negative. Damn. People (especially Americans) often conflate race, nationality, culture and ethnicity. Race is an identity that is imposed on people by outside forces (racists/racism/systems of oppression) whereas culture is heritage that is intrinsic to someones ethnicity and their family background. Sometimes race can intertwine with a cultural identity, for example African Americans who had to create their own culture after their heritage was ripped away from them during slavery. I think that is why Americans often confuse the two, because racism against African Americans is so deep in America that all minority ethnic groups are looked at through the same lens. . And little factoid, even the term Latino/a/x is terminology from the US, and doesn't originate in South America or used down there at all. Puerto Rican (which nationality-wise is American) is different from Mexican is different from Argentinian... different cultures all lumped together because of US xenophobia. Either way, it's not for us on an internet message board to define how someone else identifies. P.S this is also ignoring the important aspect of colorism and light skinned privilege, but that I think is taking a complex topic and going too deep for a message board post that is supposed to be about a tv show.

My apologies for conflating race with cultural or ethnic identity; we don't have that distinction where I come from. I always hear of White Americans, African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Latin-Americans and Native Americans being spoken of as if they are the same type of identities.
My disagreement was with all the people who keep hammering this show simply for featuring Victor (played by Michael Cimino) as the lead. If you think this board is negative ... you should see the negativity on social media that is preceding this show before it even makes it to air.
Again, there are only two English-language shows with gay male leads. Having one of them portray that lead as belonging to a culture or ethnic group that's different from the majority of the American population, should be considered a good thing - not something to slam the show with digs like "oh so white" or "pass on another white gay boy". There are even those who take issue with Nick Robinson narrating and producing the show.
And let's not even start on all the comments demanding a queer female lead - who have been 3-4 times as numerous as queer male leads.

All episodes will drop at once That is nice to hear. Hopefully, if it takes off, that means a faster renewal for season 2.
