Season 2 trailer is out! yay! It looks like they managed to do a great job despite all the COVID restrictions... excited about the new season! Loved the poster too. BIG improvement over the first season poster (which was basically the Love, Simon poster with Victor on it lol)

From the excerpt above, it look like Benji and Victor having sex won't be until Ep4. Not that I expect too much from a show that originated from Disney.

I'm a bit more optimistic watching that trailer and reading the episode synopses. I still think they should've made the episodes hour-long though. It's just too much plot to fit into the half-hour and I am bemused by how much screentime is devoted to stories that don't even feature the title character.

In the trailer they have Victor running awway in the dark so would say it is after he came out to his family

The trailer is approaching 5 million views and it hasn't even been a full week since it was released... I think this season is bound to do even better numbers than the first one

I fully expect that to be the case, now that the show is available in foreign countries too (unlike during the premiere of season 1, which was only on Hulu in the US) and they've also been all over the press promising they will be less tame in season 2 (which the trailer appears to confirm). I think the belated move to Hulu hurt their numbers - they were caught between being "family-friendly" (Disney's interpretation, which meant practically asexual*) and being moved to a platform with a different market segment. I suspect their initial Hulu-only ratings weren't that great, which was why Disney hesitated to order a second season, but the positive press and online interest from foreign countries helped make up those numbers. Of course, their eventual popularity was clear for anyone who has seen how starved the TV landscape is for a show with a queer lead, especially a queer male. There are still painfully few shows with queer male leads - this is one of three shows in the US, Generation being the newest, and none in the other Anglophone countries (possibly Europe too, now that Merli: Sapere Aude has ended). The only part of the world that recently seems to be churning out series with queer male leads is East Asia. (I mean the principal protagonist/s, not part of an ensemble.)
*You can see the difference so clearly in the new trailer and promo images. In season 1, Benji's shirtless scene was shot from the side, blocked by a fitting-room curtain, whereas in the new trailer, he's full-on shirtless at the camera. Even the locker-room scene, which the pilot script called for Andrew to be in his undies, but they put him in shorts instead, whereas this round you can see some of the basketball team in what looks like boxers. I often wonder if the season 1 finale kiss between Benji and Victor was recut after they were moved to Hulu?

I think, with this new season, they probably tried to find the "right" balance that would make the show more in line with other Hulu original series (and less in line with Disney+), but without alienating a big part of the already established audience that actually like the show because it doesn't rely so much on being edgy and hipersexual.
