This so called gay storyline was an absolute joke and made a mockery of the gay community (I feel).

I think they had good intentions (to actually introduce LGBTQ+ characters onto a soap that had never had any) but yeah, their choice of characters/plots was really abysmal. Supposedly they were testing the waters for Noah Newman (then played by Kevin Schmidt) to be revealed as gay at the end of a long-running arc that would have revealed he had been exploring his sexuality in Paris and his coming-out scenes were allegedly filmed, but the higher-ups got cold feet, canned those scenes and fired Schmidt. The character was then recast and has been straight ever since. A few years later, they finally got around to introducing a permanent LGBTQ+ presence in Noah's half-sister Mariah.
