Hunter's out-of-nowhere descent into psychosis and death by sniper was Kate Oates at her worst. Sensationalism and shock value at the cost of a legacy character. I thought they had learned their lesson after the murder of Steven Beale and death of Abi Branning (neither of which had any consequences, unlike the murder of Lucy Beale).
I fear EE is out of luck. There's supposed to be a new bisexual character introduced soon and people are speculating it's one of the 3 Sikh brothers due to be introduced this autumn, but given that there are a lot more female bi/lesbian characters who are currently unattached (I count at least 5: Tina, Sonia, Bernadette, Iqra and Ash - not sure how to classify Tiffany and Karen), I would think a love interest for one of them was more likely.

I love this new Ben. Honestly I prefer watch gay villains than "gay best friend" type of soap gays anyday. There's a reason Johnny Carter barely lasted on the show.
I really hope they don't try to domesticate or turn Ben good with Ballum's storyline. He can be ruthless and manipulative with others and soft and romantic with Callum.
Also I feel Max Bowden is more comfortable playing gay than Robron's actors for example. I feel like he wants to devour poor Callum.

I have to say I'm very relieved they confirmed Callum is gay, not bi. While I do appreciate more bisexual representation, I'm sick of the bisexual cheating trope. It's like the writers think bisexuals crave dick and vagina all the time and will never be satisfied with a monogamous relationship.
There would be no excuse for a bisexual Callum to cheat on Whitney, if he really loved her. The only way to make his conflict make sense is he was craving for something real while Whitney was just his beard.
Also now forces the writers to introduce another gay/bi character if they want a romantic triangle for Ballum, which is also great.

I don't mind my gays ruthless/manipulative, but in this case, Ben is being portrayed as outright evil. He's tried to commit two murders, including his own dad, and engaged in horrific crimes like human trafficking. And there are no repercussions for him. As with Robert Sugden, it's another case of Kate Oates going too far for shock value/sensationalism and not following through with the aftermath.
And I absolutely despise the trope where the closeted guy beats up the gay guy because he can't deal with his own sexuality, but is still treated as a viable love interest by his victim. Ugh.
