The popular Brazilian teen show is on it's 26th season, this year titled "Vidas Brasileiras" (Brazilian Lifes), focused a lot on social discussions. The idea is that every 15 days, one of the students get the spotlight to become the show's main character. The series creator, Patrícia Moretzsohn, has revealed that the out gay teen character Michael is set to be the chosen one for the moment, saying "Michael is going to live a beautiful love story, that's what we wanted to do, get away from prejudice and talk about a touching romance, and I think we can do it". All indicates that Michael's love interest will be Santiago, a new student that was just introduced/arrived last month to play for the school's soccer team. The "mysterious" character has created a special bond with Michael in the last couple of weeks, at the same time that he's been running away from all the (intense) female attention he's been getting since his arrival. Their storyline is set to begin this week and I'm really curious how the show will handle it. Even though they had gay characters in the past, all of them were pretty "asexual", with the exception of the lesbian couple from last season, which gives me hope that they will do the same with this new couple... not holding my breath though LOL Let's wait and see! It looks like someone will upload Santiago's storyline. It its in Portuguese though...

Malhação, as always, so forced. I don't think any Brazilian teenager acts like that Santiago and Michael were the only ones acting more realistically lol

Oh, that's cute... I didn't know Malhação had a gay couple this season.
I used to love this show when I was a kid/teenager... haven't watched it in over 10 years though LOL
I'll keep checking to see how this one goes!

PART 01 | MEET SANTIAGO
A new semester is starting after the winter break and the girls + Michael notice some news students. Some of them recognize Santiago as a soccer player who they've "met" during a school competition in the past, and they all comment on how attractive he is. Later, Michael "creates" a (very awkward) situation to interact with Santiago, but things don't go so well considering Santiago's shyness, he then gets frustrated at their encounter exclaiming what a shame that such a gorgeous boy is straight. Santiago starts talking to Fabiana (a girl apparently everyone hates), something that makes Michael and his friend a bit jealous. He states that Santiago should be talking to the coolest and most stylish person on the school: Michael himself. Later, Jade starts talking to Santiago, but all she really wants is to make her ex-boyfriend(?!) jealous. During a group conversation with his new colleagues, Santiago gets asked about his life as a soccer player and then gets visibly embarrassed when Fabiana asks if he has a girlfriend, to which he responds by saying he doesn't have time for girls at the moment due to his soccer training. PART 02 | GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS Jade and Fabiana fight for Santiago's attention. Jade dedicates a song to him while Fabiana is all over his face. After that, the school principal complements Santiago's abilities as a soccer player, eventually getting into an argument with his daughter Dandara. Later, as he's spending time with his team after practice, Santigo notices Jade and start talking to her just in time before her ex-boyfriend(?!) gets in their business. Jade continues trying to make her ex-boyfriend jealous and invites Santiago to a picnic, and while there, they discuss ideas for a future date. Later, we get to see the most awkward date ever... these two are not into each other at all and everybody notices it, specially Jade's ex-boyfriend. Santiago soon finds a way to escape the situation and meet two school friends, Dandara and Talíssia. Talíssia invites him to see her sing. Santiago loves her performance and both start talking about Talíssia's life and how "inspiring" she is, later discovering she's the daughter of a priestess of a afro-brazilian religion. Santiago gets excited about the idea of meeting Talíssia's mom who does cowrie-shell divinations. PART 03 | WHAT FUTURE HOLDS? As Santiago and Talíssia arrange their visit to Talíssia's mom, Dandara hears their conversation and asks if she can join them, but Talíssia convinces her to go another day so Santiago can have his consultation in privacy. She jokes that her mom can reveals anyone's deepest secrets, making Santiago a bit "scared", but she makes sure to tell him cowrie-shell divinations are great for getting self-knowledge. Later, Talíssia shows Santiago the NGO where she volunteers after school, she introduces her boss and invites Santiago to join their study groups. Later, Santiago is extremely nervous to do the cowrie-shell divinations with Talíssia's mom. She assures him that the experience will shine a light in his path. As they come back from their consultation, Santiago is really shaken by what the cowrie-shells "revealed" and he confess to be scared about what the future holds for him. Talíssia assures him that she won't tell people anything and that what he now see as problem could actually be a solution. After that, all students discuss Michael and the fact that he went to school wearing high heels as a form of protest. Santiago says (along with the other boys) that he finds Michael's antics to be a bit ridiculous, and the girls all disagree. Later that day, Santiago goes to Talíssia's performance and ends up crossing paths with Michael. They both disagree on Michael's decision to wear heels at school. Santiago claims that the school has rules that should be followed and Michael defends that he's standing up to the norms. Santiago gets upset by their disagreement and Michael gets pissed, saying he doesn't understand how can Talíssia be friends with someone so uptight as Santiago.

Summary for the new videos PART 04 | A NEW FRIENDSHIPAfter showing up at school wearing high heels as a form of protest, now Michael decides to wear a skirt, causing even more commotion within the students. Everybody seems very divided, either thinking he's going too far, or thinking he has the right to express himself. Santiago confronts Michael saying he's the talk of the school and Michael makes fun of the situation. Santiago asks Michael why he always feels the necessity to attract attention to himself, to which he responds that it's not him that attracts attention, but other people who can't deal with him expressing himself. Santiago questions Michael why can't he express himself in "normal" clothes, but Michael answers that he's wearing "normal" clothes and that Santiago could even try wearing them, to which Santiago gets uncomfortable and leaves. Later, while everybody is discussing the situation, Santiago blames Michael for all the arguing in the school regarding dress code, and he overhears it, asking to talk with him in private. Michael explains to Santiago that for the first time, all students are debating and discussing ideas, and that's why he decided to wear the skirt, for a positive change. He concludes that some discussions going overboard has nothing to do with him and it's not his fault, to which Santiago agrees, feeling bad for judging Michael. They both agree that even with the recent disagreements among the students, things are heading to a better direction. On a different occasion, Michael and Santiago meet again, and Michael confess he's feeling a bit guilty to have "started" all the discussions in school and that people are going way overboard with their opinions, losing the main point of the discussion about the school's dress code. Santiago then comforts him by saying he got the point of it and that, as the world evolves, some rules need to be changed. Michael gets really glad hearing that, explaining that being provocative was his way to get attention to the uptight school rules, and Santiago confess he admires his courage, saying he feels like he's too uptight sometimes. Michael makes fun of Santiago for saying he's only uptight 'sometimes' and both agree people should go after their rights.
PART 05 | "YOU'RE GAY!" Santiago bump into Fabiana (the girl everyone hates at school) and she asks him if he'll vote for her as president of the student body. He answers that he hasn't thought about it yet, and she flirts with him saying they can go out together so she can convince him to vote for her. He gives an excuse, saying he has a previous commitment with his parents, and decline her invitation. Later, Santiago leaves his class and meets with Michael to talk about the election for the student body. After criticizing Fabiana, Michael is surprised to learn he Santiago is not voting for her. Santiago explains that he feels like Fabiana is too intolerant, which makes Michael really happy, saying he wish more people felt like Santiago instead of voting for Fabiana. Michael is scared about Fabiana's intolerant agenda, and Santigo comforts him by saying he can always count on him. Michael smiles and confess that Santiago's words were the only good things that happened to him that day. Later, as Fabiana is throwing a party to celebrate her victory, she once again tries to flirt with Santiago, who is very blunt in saying that he has no interest in her. Fabiana gets super upset and walks away, leaving Jade to try the exact same thing with Santiago. Trying to be more kind this time, Santiago say he only sees Jade as a friend, leaving the girl completely confused. Back at school, Jade avoids Santiago, and he explains to Talíssia what happened at the party, while also expressing his discomfort with all the female attention he's been getting. Fabiana, on the other hand, instead of avoiding Santiago, goes after him to fight, exclaiming that he can't pretend to ignored her, making Santiago upset enough to leave her talking alone. Later, not ready to give up on their fight, Fabiana makes another scene in front of everybody, saying that she has discovered why Santiago snubbed her: because he's gay! Santiago stays quiet and Fabiana screams that if he wasn't gay, he would've denied it already. Talíssia gets mad at her and as they go for a fight, a school inspector stops the situation.

PART 06 | BULLYING
After Fabiana confronts Santiago about being gay, Jade gets extremely curious to learn the truth about his sexuality and is criticized by her boyfriend and some students, who defend that it's none of their business if someone is gay or not, with the exception of Claudio. During class, Santiago's sexually is the main topic of conversation, and while everybody seems divided, Michael reveals he would love if Santiago turned out to be gay, but he doesn't have much hope. On a different class, Santiago is asked by the teacher to take part on an activity that consists in students revealing more about themselves. Saying he's just an "ordinary" boy, Santiago hesitates to share more personal information, quickly being saved by Talíssia, who interjects to save her friend from the situation. During the break, Jade is 100% confident about Santiago being gay, denying the option other students raise that he might just be a shy boy. As the students discuss the situation, Santiago arrives, making everybody tense and he notices that he was the subject of their conversation. Later, Claudio starts making fun of Santiago, saying everybody knows he's gay and that he personally knows why he decided to play soccer: To see other boys in the changing room. Santiago gets mad at Claudio, while the latter keeps insulting him even more, to a point where Santiago throws a trash can in Claudio's direction, starting a big fight. Soon Michael arrives and defends Santiago, but in the end everybody ends up in the principal's office. There, everybody tries defending their side, but after getting a quick lecture on homophobia and violence, both Claudio and Santiago end up getting a suspension. On their way out of the school, Santiago and Michael walk together and comment on the situation that just happened. Santiago thanks Michael for having his back, and Michael points out that now Santiago know what life is like for him. As Michael is leaving, Santiago thanks him again and invites him for a coffee after his soccer training, to show appreciation for his help dealing with Claudio. As both agree on going out later, Michael goes for a handshake while Michael gives him a hug, only to be interrupted by a rude stranger passing by the street.

I was able to catch a couple of minutes of the show today and it looks like they are doing a storyline ‘inspired’ a little bit in “Love, Simon”... looks cute!

Summary for the latest video...
PART 07 | FEELINGS GROWING
Michael gets mad after getting pushed by a stranger as he and Santiago were hugging goodbye. Santiago deals with it and calm the situation down. Michael apologize for his reaction, claiming he's tired of always going through this kind of things. Later, Michael arrives at his mom's shop, where his good friends Pérola is doing a photo shoot, and tell everybody about the big fight at school. Pérola's boyfriend gets curious about Santiago's sexuality, but Michael is quick to say it's none of his business. Seeing his mom was worried about his late arrival, Michael assures her that he'll let her know next time something happens. As they have a quick meal, Michael's mom and Pérola tease Michael regarding his relationship with Santiago, embarrassing him, who responds he's not sure about his friend's sexuality. Pérola points out that the fact Santiago invited Michael for a coffee might give an indication, but Michael is sure it was all because he felt thankful for his help. Pérola advises her friend to ask Santiago about it directly, but Michael is worried it could damage their new friendship. Later, as Santiago arrives at the café, he tries breaking the ice by asking if Michael doesn't think that drinking coffee is funny, to which Michael jokingly responds that if he thinks drinking coffee is gay, he should know that cappuccino is much gayer. They both laugh and Santiago corrects Michael's assumption, saying he actually thought it was funny because only older people in his life drank coffee. Santiago take the opportunity to thank Michael again and confess he would've never guessed he would become his closest friend in school, which surprises Michael who asks if he's always so blunt like that. Santiago gets embarrassed and apologize explaining he usually says stupid stuff when he doesn't know what to say. He also confess is hard being new in school and that he's having a hard time making new friends. Michael says he doesn't think that is really true, and that someone like Jade would disagree with his statement. Santiago confess that despite all the female attention, he only wanted to be their friend, and that he actually feels very alone. Michael cheers him up saying he now has a new friend in him, unless he feels embarrassed to be his friend, making Santiago express how he's adjusting to their new relationship. Seeing an opportunity to unravel the mystery about Santiago's sexuality, Michael almost asks him about it but ultimately chickens out after Santiago receives a message by an old ex-girlfriend on his phone. He then asks if he's single pretending it was actually Jade who wanted to know, and Santiago responds he is. Trying to clear the air, Michael also asks a question about soccer, making Santiago laugh as he knows Michael has zero interest in the subject. Back as school, everybody makes fun of Michael's sudden interest in the Santiago's soccer game scheduled for after class, arousing everyone's curiosity if they are more than just friends. Michael gets embarrassed and states they are just friends. Soon, the soccer game is about to start and Michael goes to Santiago to wish him good luck. Santiago thanks him for the good wishes and also for Michael's input in getting everyone in the stands. As the game goes on between the two schools, the fans of the opposite team notices Michael and they all start chanting a homophobic slur.
