Sean always sabotages his relationships and seems to resent the person he's with. They should have him be happy alone and give Marcus another story.

I think that's about to happen. I think Marcus is going to move on in a story all his own away from Sean, which is good. Sean is a horrible, distasteful person and the less screentime he has the better, IMO.

Sean shouldn't have to be alone. He's insecure and middle-aged and given how people treat him, it's a wonder he doesn't have confidence. Marcus knew all of this about Sean yet he sill came back, sniffing after him professing his love and wanting to be with Sean then he decides he wants children and that's a deal breaker. I think they are better off apart. But I think Sean is lovely and he deserves a man who wants him for himself, as is, not as a fixer upper boyfriend. I really like Marcus but I think he's very judgmental and he prides himself on being the "Right" one. Not to mention that his best girl friend is madly in love with him for the whole world to see and he just goes along tra la la. Sean is a great friend and he's honest and loyal and he panicked and made a bad decision. But I think if they had both been more secure in their relationship to begin with, things wouldn't ahve gotten this out of hand. I really hope that the show can manage to have two gay characters who are different but not pitted against each other as the "wrong kind of gay" and the "right kind of gay" because that just grossed me out. Every single person in the neighborhood had done bad things they regret, no one is perfect. Sean and Marcus both deserve to find someone new, in my opinion.

Sean is treated the way he deserves to be treated. He is selfish and loathsome and shrill. I never, ever understood why Marcus went back to him given that Sean is the same person he dumped all those years ago and I blame that on the terrible writing because it's certainly makes no sense otherwise. It's really not about being 'the right kind of gay', it's about being a decent person, which Sean is not. Marcus has his flaws, but he's ultimately a good person with a good heart and he's deserving of so much more than the horror show Sean put him though. Thankfully he's out of it for his sake... and ours. And now that Marcus is moving to his own stories and his own life, Sean can fade into the background where he deserves to be.

Wow, you got is right. It's not about Sean being effeminate or the "right kind of Gay", but more about him acting like a selfish, bitchy, paranoid, pathetic, insecure, selfish teen instead of an adult capable of an adult relationship- instead he acts like a drunk infant storming in and putting your Partner's job in jeopardy. How Marcus has put up with Sean is beyond me. Plus, Marcus wants a Family, and Sean isn't willing to give Marcus his dream of a Family with children. So good they've parted. Sean is better being alone, and whining about it to his girlfriends. "Why am I alone???" Bawl...Does he have any guyfriends? And hopefully Marcus will stay on the show and find a less irritating Partner who wants Kids too. Aiden -good candidate-he's said he likes Kids Hopefully we'll see less Sean bemoaning being alone, when he's not ready for an adult relationship, and doesn't realize sometimes it's nice and loving to put your Partner's wishes above your own because you love them and want them happy, which ultimately can make you happy too. Only a child would expect to get everything he wants. Some 20 year old Twinks act more mature.

The executive producer of Corrie was interviewed and here's what he said about Marcus' future story: Will we see more of the Marcus and Maria storyline in the coming months? "You will - it's another big story for us. Maria is in love with Marcus, and so far he's oblivious to that. But obviously he's going to become aware of it, and I think he'll have to ask some big questions about his sexuality. "Marcus has identified himself as a gay man, but then again he does love Maria and he loves the idea of having a family of his own for the first time. I think that's going to be a really interesting story across the coming months." www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s3/coronation-street/interviews/a398438/coronation-street-producer-phil-collinson-shares-gossip-and-teasers.html

Is this show attempting to do their own version of Russel Davies' "Bob & Rose" for Maria & Marcus?

I have a feeling this is going to be more along the lines of the old story about the gay man who wants a family and loves his BFF but realizes after some effort that he can't be with a woman.
I'd actually rather see Marcus and Maria in a real relationship, because a) the guy who plays Marcus is a good actor who never has anything to do b ) he and Maria have sweet chemistry together c) this is not a show which will ever have a real story for a gay man. It's just tokenism. Years ago I would have been outraged at the idea of a gay man "turning" but soaps have become so ridiculous now I just don't care. Besides, if anyone can turn a gay man straight, it's Sean Tully.

Well, lately gays are having a lot more sex with girls than with other guys on soaps.
I watched very little of Corrie (and i have zero intention to watch this) but i have to agree with carld2 that Sean Tully can turn any gay man straight

Are there any others besides DAYS? I know VL and AWZ had those stories a year or two ago, and recently again with Deniz, just wondering about lately.
Corrie is unwatchable and has been since Phil Collinson became producer. I just want Marcus to have a good story. He is so cute and endearing.

i feel a bit like i dont belong here. I actually LIKE sean. sure he's high maintence, moody, clingy and a bit of a drama queen. He reminds me of kurt from glee, justin from ugly betty, or roman from AWZ. I liked him and marcus together but frankly I'd like them to actually give sean someone that will work with him, want the same things, and be there for him 100%. Not all gay men are like marcus. sure sometimes they make gay guys like sean out to be a sterotype but i really do like him. he also reminds me a lot of robbie on river city.

I absolutely agree with you. I love Sean and every quirky, crazy, zany, diva-ish thing he does. He's definitely a stereotype and some view that negatively, but I don't. I think that Marcus is incredibly boring, and I honestly don't see much about him that's great, unlike others who apparently do. The show seems to think that viewers will like him and Maria together, but I disagree. She's not exciting or antagonistic enough to make Marcus interesting IMO. I agree that it would be nice for Sean to be with someone who could work well with him and love him unconditionally. I love Robbie and Will on RC because of their differences. Sean needs a level-headed stud who can deal with him and put him in his place when needed, but loves him regardless. IMO

That sounds like Marcus the first time he was on the show, when Sean almost got him fired, tried to cheat on him with Liam's cousin, and then falsely accused Marcus of cheating. Sean isn't just a stereotype, he's an incredibly selfish, nasty person. He always puts himself first and hurts anyone he comes into contact with. The few times he doesn't do this are treated like some type of parade of nobility. Beyond that, Antony Cotton just can't act, and I have never seen any real chemistry with Sean and any of his love interests.

I don't think the show is really planning to put Maria/Marcus together. I think Marcus will realize he can only ever be with men, and will reunite with Sean, or leave town. I don't mind that she's not antagonistic - I think it would be nice to have a sweet couple, and Maria certainly has enough of a complex past to drive drama. We know little of Marcus' past so they could do any story with him. I don't believe Marcus/Maria are actually happening, but if they ever did, a well written show would have plenty of story for them. Unfortunately, Corrie is about as well written as chicken scratch.
