A new interview with Yani Gellman (Rafe) conducted by The Advocate's Michael Fairman; Yani doesn't discuss the Chris Engen scandal and gives few hints about what will happen with his character, but his enthusiasm for the role and the story is wonderful: www.advocate.com/exclusive_detail_ektid87810.aspI know.... ;D he seems like a really well grounded actor...I hope Y&R does right by him....

I'm happy that we will finally learn more about Rafe. I'm dying to know who will be his love interest: Adam, Philip III, Philip IV or someone else that we didn't count in.

Hey guys, I'm interested in this upcoming storyline. I'd like to know if anyone will be covering this story? Or if there are clips I can look for? Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks alot! It's so interesting that we will be getting 4 new gay storylines from US/UK soaps. GAY IS "IN"! Hahhaa.

kradamantium2525: Nice one!! Hopefully there will be more to come. But I'm sorry if I'm repeating something that have been asked. If Rafe a new guy on the show? Or he has been in the show for a long time and just that he realised he's gay? Any form of explanation will be good. Thanks in advance!

He's a minor character. Been around at least a little while, but not a long time. Has always been gay, but was so minor it never came up until a few weeks ago, when someone tried to set him up, and he said "Obviously, she doesn't know I'm gay." ETA: uh, but if you watched the clips, you already knew that last bit. Sorry.
Also, if you're looking for more clips, bombayhighway has a series of "Rafe Torres Story" clips that don't actually feature much of Rafe, but they fill out a lot of the storyline we're expecting him to be drawn into very soon.

davedoty: Thanks alot for the heads up. I haven't check out the clips yet. Will do soon. Still busy watching Torchwood Season 2. Now that we have someone covering Y&R. I believe OLTL's storyline will be covered somehow. Now I'm wondering who will the be great person to do the covering of Eastenders.

Well, if they had him announce that he was gay, which they knew would attract lots of attention, then drop him off the face of the earth for weeks on end, they can hardly blame themselves if the new eyes they attracted got bored waiting for the story that drew them in to actually start.

Eh, that's why I come here or afterelton.com. I know that as soon as something actually happens, then I'll start watching and won't sit there bored for 5 weeks.

I agree. Rafe is supposed to be into a main storyline and he had no screen time. Come on, they must spend a little time making the audience know the guy, he is a barely there character. And nobody cares what happend to a barely there character. I hope they'll do a better job now that he'll be introduce to Adam's storyline

Ha!
The main reason I've been a little hard on the show is that I felt like it didn't live up to the stratospheric hype I'd heard before checking it out. But now that I've spent some time on the TWOP boards, listening to them rake it over the coals with the same rancor ATWT fans reserve for that show, I'm mellowing somewhat.
Somewhere between "This show is to ATWT what Shakespeare is to Full House" and "The creators are deliberately and maliciously making the the worst show they can possibly make" is a happy medium that probably more accurately reflects the quality of the show.
I still prefer OLTL so far, though.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but other boards are saying that the Rafe spoilers that are supposed to happen next week, are going to happen the week of June 22. If Rafe isn't on sometime next week, it will be over a month since we last saw him. Like many here have already stated, he needs to be on more, or nobody is going to care about him or his story. My fingers and toes are crossed that he won't be wasted as some plot point, or to give (questionable) legal advice when Michael isn't around! BTW, after lurking for many months, this is my first post and I'm glad to find a place to talk about different soaps, without all of the trolls

While I wouldn't have had Rafe disappear for a month and give him some scenes to have people get to know him, Y&R is known for telling stories at glacial speed so it's not surprising one bit to me. I still think Y&R is going to going to a great job telling Rafe's story. Might be too slow for some, but I think it will be good.

Even though I've expressed a preference for faster pacing, I don't expect the show to change its style just for me. My issue is with timing; having him come out was bound to bring attention to the show from non-traditional soap viewers, so it should have been placed closer to the actual Rafe story, since I'm sure most of the rubberneckers have LONG since moved on. People interested enough to hang out on sites like this or AfterElton are going to be in a minority. Any casual viewers weren't going to either wait for over a month of Rafe-lessness to pass, or keep tabs on the show through sites like this to find out when to come back.
Any casual viewers intrigued by the coming out (and keep in mind, they probably heard about it after the fact, so didn't even see that one day it was addressed), almost certainly came in, looked around for a day or two, said "is that it?" and haven't given the show a second thought since. Subsequent buzz isn't going to spread as far as the first volley, and has the much harder job of convincing them to give the show a SECOND chance.
If they had just held those two scenes that addressed Rafe's sexuality back until shortly before the Rafe story launched, they could have made a much stronger presentation to new viewers without having to alter their overall pacing, or the amount of screen time allocated to this minor character. That's really my point.
