Wow, it's so great that they're having another gay character on the show. I really wish they still had Matt (Chris Geere) around to give some advice to Josh. It was criminal how he was written out without so much as a mention as to what became of the character. Even his best friend Steph never mentioned him again (and wouldn't he have been a great confidante when she did her little lesbian exploration with Jo Lipsett?)

Is that one of the Tittensor twins I see as gay Connor? And Lucien Laviscount as the other new kid, Jonah? They certainly seem to be upping both the gay and the totty quotients, and I for one am loving it!

I just saw the last clip.. I'm glad Josh made up with his friend.. And his dad seems to be handling the gay issue slightly better than before, but only slightly! lol.. Well, at least he's trying.

I can't wait to see more of this storyline. Hopefully there'll be more, right? It's not over? I'm not sure..

I hope they show Josh again soon... but I think each episode focus on someone different... so will probably be a few episode before we get back to Josh again...

Josh was in some of the recent episodes but the story didn't revolve around him (or his sexuality). Now that he's mended his friendship with Finn, he is (as usual) being dragged into trouble by him. They were bullying the bulimic son of the headmistress, so much so the poor kid nearly drowned himself. It was quite troubling to be honest; the actor playing the bulimic kid looks so young and does a pretty good job with his storyline. Bulimia sufferers, as portrayed on television, are usually girls so this was unusual.

To try and end this post on a more upbeat note, Josh missed out on Ronan's striptease during the debate competition, which was too bad because it would have been interesting to see his reaction

With all that now behind them Josh is comfortable with who he is and this term will even see him get his first boyfriend as he starts going out with Nate.

Nate is 15, confident, charismatic, clever, articulate and with a shy, quiet sort of charm that wins people over, especially girls. He’s seemingly very comfortable in his own skin. He's also gay - although not at all camp, and his sexuality is not quite public knowledge in Waterloo Road. Maybe that's one of the reasons that most of his friends are female - or maybe it's that he dresses better than any other lad in the year, he's got the best hair, and unlike most of his peers he knows how to communicate with a girl beyond pinging their bra strap. Plus he's really, really fit and he doesn't even know it. What he hasn't really got is a best friend - he seems to keep people at arm's length.

He leans towards maths and science subjects but his real interests lie in his extra-curricular activities which are all arty - drama, music, film. He can often be found in the art room, or practising guitar, happy in his own company. He's into books and politics and stuff, not that he's daft enough to let people see that too often. Most of all he loves his music - he's a total indie kid - an obsessive retro vinyl junkie, he writes a music blog, plays guitar and he's always trying to get bands together. His ambition is to make it with his own music, but unlike most kids you can actually believe that Nate might do it.

It's no wonder that Josh falls for Nate. They bond over music, Nate's latest effort at a band having just collapsed and him persuading Josh to form one with him. They spend most of the rehearsal time talking instead of playing and begin to realise the strength of their feelings for one another. Nate seems comfortable in his own skin and Josh admires that. With Finn still not really getting it, he is desperate for a friend who understands what he's feeling. Not to mention someone he fancies the pants off. As for Nate, perhaps he doesn't mean for it to develop with Josh as far as it does but he can't get him out of his head - Josh just gets him. Nate just wants to know him better. Better than anyone.

Yet Josh feels that Nate won't quite let him in. Like he's always holding something back.

Meanwhile, Nate's uncomfortable relationship with his dad hits rock bottom when Matthew Gurney discovers that his son is gay. Unable to accept the news, Matthew blames the school for encouraging Nate's sexuality and orders him to keep away from Josh. Later, Tom intervenes with some words of advice, prompting reconciliation with violent consequences.
