I didn't watch the first couple of seasons, but they had Chris Geere as gay music teacher Matt Wilding a couple of years ago. He was on the show for two seasons. In the first season, they established that he was gay and lived together with his boyfriend, who we saw on (I think) two episodes. Matt's mother didn't know he was gay and there was the usual coming-out drama where Matt pretended his boyfriend was not his boyfriend. In that episode they shared a brief onscreen kiss. At the end of the episode, after Matt came out to his mother, he apologized to his boyfriend and proposed. That was towards the end of one season. We never saw Matt's boyfriend again, and the following season it was explained that he'd dumped Matt, who was turning to pills to cope with the heartbreak. Matt never had another romance-themed s/l, until his very last episode, when he and the music teacher from the rival school made googly eyes at each other (but never had any sort of physical contact). Matt was then written out without any explanation.
So yeah, not a very good record. I'm a bit surprised they didn't even give us a single kiss between Nate and Josh. I can't imagine it's a big issue since they DID have Josh kiss Finn earlier in the season.

Matt and his boyfriend were very physically affectionate (kissing and hugging and flirting)

Weird that two users have two different perspective of the Matt character...
I thought it was strange that they didn't show a kiss either, since they had Josh and Finn kissed.... Unless you have a double standard where its okay for boys to kiss as long as they don't have romantic feelings for each other...

At least now I know that it's normal for WR to suck at gay storylines.. it's good to know that I probably shouldn't get my hopes up when it comes to them being affectionate. Too bad, because it's actually a fairly decent storyline, and they share some chemistry too.

That's exactly their reason I'm guessing.. it's really stupid, but whatever.

Didn't Josh or Nate show up in the last episode?

Just caught up with the latest episode... Josh and Nate still shows up, but they are pretty much in the background... Josh is still there in relations to helping his dad deal with the beating from Nate's dad.... Nothing seems to be happening on the Josh/Nate front...

Josh and Nate are back to being pretty much background characters again. I do think it is a little strange that we haven't seen them share a kiss, although we have seen them about to kiss a couple of times, before being interrupted. We have seen them have a mini-conversation about sleeping together, albeit not in so much detail. I really don't think that WR is shying away from showing a gay kiss though, as the previous gay characters, Matt and Colin, did share a few kisses. Maybe it has something to do with the age of the actors, and them not being comfortable with it? Who knows!
WR isn't really known for being a fantastic drama when it comes to storylines though, it seems to just change the character focus from episode to episode, and deal with storyline arcs within an episode or two. They always seem to end in a very cliche 'after school special' sort of feel, where the intention is to teach the audience something. Other storylines just seem to wrap themselves up with little explanation too! We never really found out what happened with Nate and his dad, or indeed why Tom was suddenly absolutely fine about leaving the house one episode after he seemed extremely agoraphobic after being beaten up. It seems to be quite a plothole-y type of show!
Hope we get to see more of Josh and Nate next series!

Well, it is not that surprising about them being background characters... except for one or two storyline that last the series, all the other storylines tend to be fully contained in an episode or two...

Yay! Finally some more Josh! I always liked him.. and I'm glad he finally got to kiss someone this time, it was moronic how his dad kept interrupting Josh and his bf the last time.. and it was ALWAYS right before they were supposed to kiss.. *roll eyes* but at least they made up for it this time! I just hope Josh gets himself a boyfriend soon, someone who likes him for him, and doesn't take advantage of him, like this jerk did..

This is pissing me off so much! They have two gays on the show - one of them is involved in a horribly stupid, boring and clichéd storyline involving a baby.. the other gay wasn't allowed to kiss, but then he got a new love interest only to show up in ONE episode.. then in the next episode the love interest is gone and we see Josh going crazy.. GREAT! WHY did they had to make the gay guy crazy, why couldn't it have been one of the other guys? It comes totally out of the blue too.. Josh has shown nothing to suggest he's crazy before.. just this episode.. WTF?!?! It seems like the writers have to come up with awful story lines for the gays, just so they can avoid showing them as sexual human beings.. because we all know how controversial a simple gay kiss on the mouth can be! *roll eyes* WAY TO RUIN TWO GOOD GAY CHARACTERS, WRITERS! GREAT JOB!
Yes.. I'm pissed off.. this show has TWO gay characters, but has managed to waste them both.. fucking hell.. it's pathetic!

Waterloo Road returns in late August. Here are some more spoilers:
The Waterloo Road wiki states that Josh will be back to resit his exams. I haven't really seen any confirmation for his return -- he wasn't in the promo above as far as I can tell (though his dad is).

digitalspy posted some spoiler discussion show producer Cameron Roach (highlight to read): Tom Clarkson and his son Josh are also still in the show. Will they have much screen time in the new run? "Yes - with both Tom and Grantly, they've been in the show from the start and we know the fans absolutely love them. I think Tom is always the voice of reason for Michael. If Michael and Lorraine have their moments, Tom is the one who is level-headed.
"The story that we tell across these next ten episodes is Tom having to let Josh fly the nest, which is hard for any single parent. That's another quite emotional story for us to tell." Actually the video you have posted is from the last series, the new one should begin on Thursday.
In the end of the last series there has been a car accident and one of the characters, Tariq, can't now use his legs. Here are some spoilers about episode 2: Josh tries to convince Tariq that life is worth living, but Tariq isn’t interested.
Could it be possible that something is going to happen between them? In series 7 Tariq had a girlfriend, so I don't know. (Anyway they could be an interesting couple: the paraplegic and the schizophrenic...) On a side note, Matt, the music teacher (the other gay character in the series) left the show at the end of series 7.

Some comments from an interview with Jason Done (who plays Josh's Dad Tom), highlight to read: It sounds like Tom also has a tough time ahead as his son Josh wants to fly the nest. What can you tell us about that? "Josh, as with all teenagers at that age, is striving for his own independence. Tom is being quite overbearing, though - he wants to be a great dad and take all of the responsibility away from Josh. That makes Josh feel very smothered.
"As a result, Josh wants to go away, make his own mistakes and learn from them. Eventually, Tom realizes that if you love something, set it free."
What is Will Rush, who plays Josh, like to work with? "I miss Will so much. He's got such a maturity and professionalism about him, and he's such a big character. We had a fantastic banter and shared so many laughs together over the years. I don't want to give too much away, but I'm hopeful that he may return later on in the series, even if it's only briefly." According to wikipedia Josh should return in series 8c. And, from what I've seen in episode 8x20, there might be a lesbian storyline as well between Nikky and Lorraine.

I don't believe so as all the dialog on the show is already in English.
