From there: "And the man leading the assault is Syed’s furious father-in-law, who hits the roof when he discovers he has been deceiving his newly-wed daughter Amira (Preeya Kalidas, 27) with his gay affair."So, we have our answer. Qadim is responsible. That's exactly who I expected. Damn. It looks like it'll be bad. I know its looks real bad cause they left him in blood lets see what Mr.Syed is going to do I blame the mom forced him into the marriage

I know its looks real bad cause they left him in blood lets see what Mr.Syed is going to do I blame the mom forced him into the marriage Well, any bashing like that is bad. It kind of looks like Christian is afraid for his life in that pic. Zainab certainly has her faults, but I personally can't go so far as to blame her for this situation. Syed has been torn, and knew full well the consequences of coming out. I've said before that I think that, when Zainab learned the truth, Syed was begging her to give him permission to follow his heart to Christian. She couldn't do that, so I thought that Syed did what he was going to do anyways. If Zainab hadn't learned the truth, I think he still would have married Amira. She just reinforced what he already thought. I've long thought that the crux of the story is dealing with the consequences of our choices and actions. Syed had a choice, and he made his own decision. Now he's dealing with the consequences. Christian also made his choice today. And now he has to deal with the consequences of his actions.

Regarding Syed's "solution to all his problems": tell me it's not a suicide attempt. Please.

Thanks for the spoiler, maya. I have to say, Christian looks remarkably well recovered from the beating in the photo that accompanies the text. ;D

Thank you very much as usual for the spoiler maya! ITA with you about Zainab, I can't believe tptb push to these limits her character. Anyway it's gonna be heartbreaking and interesting to watch though.

What I don't understand is Christian is such a strong man I mean just look at that amazing body, yet he keeps getting the crap kicked out of him,I think the writers should have him start taking self defense lessons

Well, three-on-one is hardly fair. Those two goons that Qadim had with him looked pretty strong, too.

Setting Syed's stuff on fire, that is too far. Zainab is really going off the deep end. You would think that she was the one that was cheated on.

Zainab is really going off the deep end. You would think that she was the one that was cheated on. Well, actually... ;D I've heard whisperings that Masood and Jane's kiss is going to come up again this week. To answer sophh98's question in the spoilers thread: I've heard absolutely nothing about John leaving Eastenders, and I would be very surprised if that were the case. As for Syed and suicide: may I ask where you read about that? There is a weird spoiler about Syed thinking that he has found "a solution to all his problems," and I myself have been wondering whether the storyline is building up to a suicide attempt (not successful, of course). The wording of the spoiler is really vague, though, and it doesn't necessarily imply a suicide attempt. My thinking may be too influenced by what has happened on Emmerdale of late.

While they could be misleading, I'd take the spoilers you just posted, gaysoapfan, as indicating a suicide attempt. They say he takes a bunch of pills and drowns them in vodka. He's probably drunk in his depression over the situation. It's possible it's not intended, but people can do extreme things when they're drunk and depressed. Wow, Zainab's going to hit a new low. "Zainab tells him she wishes he'd died"

Well, I was both right and wrong. Syed does attempt suicide, but sooner than I guessed. Syed finds this "solution to all his problems" in the week after attempting suicide, so that must be what Marc is referring to when he says in the Digital Spy interview that Syed will seek "help from an unlikely source."

Thanks for the preview clip for Thursday, gaysoapfan. I really want to see the rest of the context around that conversation. Christian looks pretty angry with Syed. Granted, "sorry" is a too little, too late coming from Syed. Still.

Wait I'm confused Amira is pregnant? I thought she wasn't and it was her friend.
Syed made all this mess happen and he's the one whose going to have to clean it up. He shouldn't have married Amira knowing he couldn't give her what she needed at of a true husband. Even if he wasn't in love with Christian, Syed would never be what she wanted him to be. There whole lives would be a sham, and they both didn't deserve that.

Wait I'm confused Amira is pregnant? I thought she wasn't and it was her friend. I thought the whole thing was an obvious set-up. When Amira and her friend were both taking the tests, her friend took both things and put them in her smock. Then she fetched one out and said "this one is yours" (not in quite those words ). They hinted at the truth in Amira's last scene before she left with Qadim.

The 'ol switched pregnancy test trick. If the friend turns out not to be pregnant, that will confirm it.

Chelsea has already confirmed that she is not pregnant. She told Amira as much before she left.

So Syed has a child out there he doesn't know about. Oh Syed what a mess you have made for yourself, you have hurt the people you love the most all because you were too afraid to be who you are. And if he was with four men before Christian, that's pretty clear that he's gay.
I'm guessing the child will pop up again when Syed starts to make progress with his life in a positive direction, maybe making progress with Christian too. And Syed will have to decide what to do, I wonder if Amira will even let him near his child?

I know Preeya (Amira) has left so that will change a lot of the storyline, but I don't understand how Syed would not learn that Amira is pregnant, especially as the pregnancy progresses and becomes obvious. Amira can't live that far away from Walford and due to the connections in their community that Zainab is always going on about, you would think it would leak quite quickly... I do wonder however, that in the future and if Syed is a long term character, that it will turn out that Qadim had Amira put the baby up for adoption. I was a bit confused when I was watching the show. I had read the spoilers that she was pregnant and then the show was saying she wasn't. I actually thought the spoilers got it wrong, but yeah she definately is because Chelsea said to her Mum she wasn't!! Thanks for the pic Mad4dex, Syed looks lovely in B&W, but poor baby he really is suffering. Oh and anyone who lives in Britain and is over 18, please vote today. It is so important to get a government who is pregressive for change and not one which will go back to government of the 80s!!!

Thank you gaysoapfan for posting the preview for tonight!!! I'm eager and scared at the same time, so much sufference and angst in that scene that I don't know if I could see it in one shot, I think I would have to do many pauses to calm myself down!
And about the guy that Syed will meet I think EE will go down the route to try to cure the gay away.

Yeah, maya has posted a spoiler to that effect. Thanks!
I have several responses:
1. Wow, the writers are throwing everything into this storyline, aren't they! Religion, bashings, a suicide attempt, the "ex-gay" movement.
2. Is this a first for a gay storyline on a soap?
3. I hope that this doesn't end up being a throw-away episode, and that they actually develop the idea. Somehow, I suspect not, but I guess we'll see.

It seems Mas is taking a page from Donald Sutherland in Ordinary People when he sees his wife as a poison destroying the family. Sending her away before she can do more harm to the family unit.

The only time I remember this happening in a gay storyline in a soap, unless you count stuff like Footballers Wives or the American QAF, was on the US soap All My Children, in 1997, when gay teenager Kevin Sheffield briefly agreed to his parents demands that he go to a "counselor." The counselor was actually an ex-gay therapist who tried to shame him and make him renounce who he was. After a month or so, Kevin stopped going, and accepted himself once and for all.

Now that I think about it, didn't Luke on As the World Turns also have a brief encounter with a creepy guy who ran an ex-gay camp? So, never mind.
