I'm not sure what a legacy character is. I'll try to explain how he fits into the cast. But if I misunderstood you and you mean something else, please tell me.
As I said, he's Jo Gerner's stepson. Jo Gerner, who is played by Wolfgang Bahro, is Germany's longest running and most famous soap villain, being around since almost the beginning of the series in 1992. In fact, now that the Lindenstraße got cancelled, he's Germany's longest running soap character. Officially he's a lawyer, but he also has his hands in several other legal and illegal activities and is super rich.
In more recent years, he softened up a bit. But he's still capable of some shady business every time, though he also has and always had a friendly site. Gerner is still in the centre of much what is going on in this show, and being involved with him normally guarantees having at least a fairly decent amount of screentime.
Moritz' mother is Yvonne Bode and is played by Gisa Zach. She's like the opposite of Gerner, but as it often happens in soaps, they fell in love and married. Yvonne talks a lot, but she has a strong moral centre and is one of the most morally strong characters in the show.
Moritz also has a half-sister, Laura. The actress Chryssanthi Kavazi is currently in maternity leave, but RTL already announced officially, that the character will return in fall. Laura is another villainous character. She had her first appearance a while before Yvonne and schemed together with Felix Lehmann against Gerner. It was during this feud with Laura that Gerner met Yvonne and later fell in love with her, though both sides have buried the hatchett at least for now.
These three are the characters Moritz definitely will be involved with, though I hope and assume there will be more. Moritz was mentioned several times in the past by Yvonne. His biggest "role" so far, though off-screen, was being tested as a possible donator for bone marrow, when Laura had leukemia.
The character profile on the official GZSZ-webpage describes him as charming and adventurous and willing to make a risky plan work. It says that he's motivated by the world of the high society, which he was never a part of since he's from a poorer family but now has his first step in thanks to being related to Gerner.

I'm not sure Moritz strictly qualifies as a legacy character*, since his only biological links to the cast are Yvonne and Laura, and it doesn't sound like they are long-running characters themselves. But being the stepson of the long-running character could work in his favour - only time will tell. *A legacy character typically belongs to one (or more) of the show's original or long-running core families, ideally one who has been with the show since the beginning or was born onscreen to a popular character. The most legacy gay character on a soap would probably be Will Horton of DAYS. The Hortons were there at the start of the show more than 50 years ago, and his great-grandmother Alice spoke the first lines. Through his mother he also belongs to the Brady clan, who started on the show a few years later but are firmly established as one of the anchor families. Will was born onscreen to a popular pairing "Lumi", and his mother Sami was also born onscreen to another popular couple, Roman Brady and Dr Marlena Evans. So he is the son, grandson and great-grandson (twice over) of some of the show's most popular pairings and tentpole couples. DAYS was also the first (and I think only?) soap to place two legacy characters in a gay relationship when Will was paired with Sonny Kiriakis - while Sonny wasn't born onscreen, he is the only biological child of a couple that were very popular at the time, both of whom belong to storied families in their own right (the Kiriakises and Johnsons). ETA: Forgot the British soaps. There was also Robert Sugden (another very legacy character) and Aaron Dingle on Emmerdale. |

There was the confirmation in today's TVNow episode. Yes, Moritz is gay and open at least in the sense that he had no problems talking with Nihat about it in a matter of fact way and trying to flirt with him.

No or at least not so far. He basically answered "Sorry, no chance" and they spent the rest of the episode as friends.

Not really, but RTL has heavily reduced the spoilers for GZSZ in the episode description. Many things aren't spoiled anymore. The only thing known about Moritz is that he's searching for ties/connections in Berlin. And yes, the episodes are free next week. Moritz appears on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Monday is the scene with Moritz trying to flirt with Nihat and later having a one night stand (off-screen, it's only mentioned). And Tuesday and Wednesday you can see him shirtless, if you want.  |

Looks like in August a (boy?)friend of Moritz from Australia will appear in the series. Moritz got a call from a character called Henry shortly after his arrival in Berlin and didn't answer the call. Starting with the episodes on August 5th, a character called Henry Sander is listed on the official cast list as a recurring character. He is played by Aaron Wolff: agentur-samuel.de/aaron_wolff |

Judging from what is seen from him so far, Moritz is unscrupulous and only out for himself. The only thing that stops him from being a full villain is that he's clumsy and not really thinking things through.

Because he was mentioned in the Unter uns thread. Moritz is currently pretty involved in the storylines in GZSZ, though not yet in a lovestory. He's a schemer and has two storylines right now. He's the culprit in a thieving and disposing plotline but also the innocent scapegoat in a kidnapping storyline.

I saw Moritz and Luis (recast played by Marc Weinmann) pop up on another site. On the last couple of episodes, they went skinny-dipping and had their clothes stolen. Must be influenced by a similar scene (setting looked the same) on Unter Uns which got Yannik Meyer naked.
Moritz and Luis had a nice vibe but not understanding German, it was hard for me to tell if there's any romantic potential there. Luis certainly seemed interested in the girl who convinced them to strip and then made off with their clothes. (Cute butts by the way.)
The two episodes are the latest ones which are free-to-view on TVnow.

The girl is Luis' girlfriend who returned with him from Australia. But I am now pretty sure, that a story between Luis and Moritz is planned. It really goes in this direction. It's 100% sure that Moritz will fall in love with him, but I also think it will be mutual sooner or later.
Also, as it turned out, when the recast process for Luis was on, Lennart Borchert (Moritz) was there to play scenes with some of the actors. This is a strong sign, because in the UFA soaps in Germany they mostly do these kind of castings with established actors to test the chemistry with the new ones.

Nope, the most recent spoilers we are getting is still Moritz trying to get Luis out of his head.
Luis never stated that he is straight, as far as I know. But I am sure he believes himself straight, and if he falls for Moritz or another man, it will be a surprising realization for him.

I miss the days when we used to have blogs/channels that followed the gay stories on German soaps and created English-subtitled clips for international fans. After a long lull of mediocre (or non-existent) representation, we have two such stories but no one to clip and subtitle them. The official Instagram posted this montage of cuteness.
