So here's Adrián's interview in the June issue of
Overlay Magazine. You can leaf through it here:
www.overlaymagazine.com/revista-actual/"Adrián Rodríguez, 22, was born in Barcelona and is currently living in Madrid. Some will know him from
Los Serrano in which he played the part of DVD, others as David in
Física o química which ends tonight on Antena 3. In the following interview, he talks to us about tonight's finale, of what it felt like to be reunited with his former costars, and of course, he tells us about his musical career, of the new songs he will reveal to the audience, and of all that this change means for him. It's not common to find interviews of Adrián online, which is why we asked him not only about his future projects, but also to know a little bit more about what was his experience being part of two of the most important TV shows of the last few years. We hope you'll enjoy the photo session and interview we did with this great actor and singer.
Q: Adrián, the seventh season of
Física o química started just a few weeks ago and now it's already over. How would you value the whole of the new season?
Adrián Rodríguez Moya: All things considered, there's been a lot of closure this season, which is normal since the series had been a bit damaged by the departure of several key characters. Even so, I think the whole team has done an amazing job. Screenplays, style of direction, all were refreshed... we came back with a lot of energy after the break that followed Season 6. About the relationship of David and Fer, nothing to say, you'd just have to see it...
Q: It was rumored you'd be singing the title song of the current season. How come it's back to the original performers? Wouldn't you have liked to sing it?
ARM: Well, to tell you the truth, it would have been nice, but since they didn't offer me to do it, I think it's ok, sung by those who created it. One of mine would have been tops. (laughs)
Q: David, your character, has been one of the most beloved by the audience, both male and female. And in effect, both Javier Calvo and you have received various awards. How does one take this? What does it mean for you?
ARM: Well, the truth is that now I understand all that people have been fighting for and how difficult it is to be yourself in today's society...David and Fer have not only taught us that two boys can love each other, but also that there are still many of us young people today who are fighting to achieve a good future, no matter how difficult that is. There is no such thing as a free lunch.
Q: What do you think about the fact that
Supervivientes (the Spanish version of
Survivors on Telecinco) "stole" viewers from you? With all the changes in the show's schedule, it's normal the audience had ups and downs...
ARM: This way, one sees what people are really interested in, today. So the only solution is to try and adjust, and at the end of the day, the only thing we actors have to worry about is always to do a good job. In cases like this, the channels are the ones which are fighting, and they don't care that they oppose two programmes in the same time slot, even though they share the same audience.
Q: In this season, with the appearance of his ex-girlfriend, Susana, David was again put in doubt of his sexuality. Everybody was afraid that David would now turn heterosexual...What do
you think?...
ARM: It's really weird, this way to put labels on tastes. I've learned that David lets himself be carried by good vibes, and the personalities of the persons, not their gender. One should also add that he's always been pretty open-minded.
Q: How was it to work in two of the most important Spanish series on TV, first in
Los Serrano and then in
Física o química? What do you keep from each?
ARM: Well, I am very happy to have been part of the two. What I keep from it is that I've learned a lot, and I've met so many good people, who, I hope, will stay by my side as we move on. I am thankful that I was allowed to take advantage of those opportunities. I gave it all I had, one can always do better, but I have tried and I think I've done it the best I could.
Q: Would you like to repeat an experience like that of
SJK, but more adult?
ARM: That would be a project to consider, one can never completely turn one's back on any option. But for now I'm only thinking about my career as a solo artist, I've always thought that bands are great for arguing....(laughs)
Q: What goes through your head when people refer to
Menudas estrellas, Chayanne and
A toda mecha and "DVD"...?
[
A toda mecha was a hit song of
SJK, the band made up of young stars from
Los Serrano that Adrián was part of, and
Menudas estrellas (Little Stars) was the Antena 3 show where he first appeared when he was 10, winning a contest where he imitated Chayanne. DVD was the name of his character in
Los Serrano.)
ARM:Well, I feel invaded by all the nostalgia in the world, seeing how fast years fly by. I am also pleased, because I had an incredibly good time then, and I really enjoyed sharing it with my family, my friends, etc...They've always been with me, as happy and enthusiastic as I was.
Q: Leaving aside the old days, as far as acting is concerned, what projects do you have for the future? Wouldn't you love to get into the movies?
ARM: For now, it's music. For the movies, I had the opportunity in 2006 with
El vuelo del guirre, and now, I'd love to to work in any film project, although I must acknowledge that since I got my tattoos, I'm sure that's shut the door on many jobs for me.
[Someone needs to tell him about Nicolas Duvauchelle (
www.imdb.com/name/nm0245164/ ) ;D ]
Q: As far as music is concerned, what are your projects?
ARM: Good!! I was wishing you'd ask me about this (laughs). I am very motivated... I've found myself, my style and I really feel like a whole lot like showing the world that I'm a great singer and that I can entertain people of all ages and put them in awe with my show... You'll say, How pretentious, right? In fact, I've convinced myself, by my own will power and my love for music.
Q: You know you got a group on FB, where hundreds of people are asking you to release a record... When are we going to be able to listen to it and to buy it?
ARM: Well, it's one of my biggest motivations, that these people are really the ones who want me to continue to do what I like most and I am going to fight for myself and for them as much as is needed.
Q: Your previous songs, by your own admission, were about a love story. What will the new ones talk about? We know you've been presenting the single "Fruit of Paradise" in various venues...
ARM: Well, there are always songs of every type, but I am pretty romantic... About "Fruit of Paradise", it's a single that's part of what my career is at the moment, I don't want to be boxed in by any kind of music.
Q: The other day, while live on Twitcam with us for
Overlay, you sang a song. Can you tell us its title or where we'll be able to listen to it?
ARM: It's called "Vuelve" (Come back) and it's one of my new pieces and maybe one of those which best define my style... You'll hear it very soon.
Q: People follow you from every country, not just from Spain, you're an actor and a singer much beloved by many men and women. What have you got to say to all those people who follow you day by day ?
ARM: I'm enormously grateful to them, because I began to do this because I liked it and because I had a great time doing it. If they have a great time with me, and I make them happy and we're all happy, and that I can make a living of it, this turns into a dream come true. I will give it everything I have to make it happen.
Q: What would you like to achieve a few years from now? How do you see yourself ten years older?
ARM: Ten years older, I hope i am in good health, that all the people I love are in good health too, and for all the rest, one will have to work at it.
Q: Let's talk about the finale of
Física o química that will air tonight on Antena 3. We know all the actors who've been on the show were reunited for the last episode... How was it to see again all your old costars?
ARM: It was very emotional, because we are united by a great affection.
Q: What will we be able to see in that finale?
ARM: It's quite a beautiful ending, there will be a reunion [Adri's word can also be translated as "reencounter"]. And really you'll just have to see it, after all the bad things, there is always something good.
Q: In relation with David, in the previous chapter we saw him at the beginning neglecting everything and forgetting Fer, but at the end we see him breaking down completely when he thinks he sees him again. Will he see him again? Even if it's only in his imagination?
ARM: Yes, he will see him again.
Q: Production on
FoQ ended just one week ago, for ever. How are you doing?
ARM: Well, I'm fine. You always have to end something in order to begin something new.
Q: And now to end this, we'd like to ask you a few quick questions to know more about your tastes outside of acting and music.
A virtue: Ambition
A defect: Disorder
A place: Barcelona
A drug: Cars
A passion: Music
