I think Tubedout pointed out in a earlier post that this school is a "troubled" school with "troubled" kids so I think that's why the kids behaved so horribly. Sometimes it feels like people just think all poor or working class kids are obnoxious and violent and oversexed and disrespectful and have criminal inclinations. That bothers me a bit. Kids who are unruly and sassy-mouthed and mean are that way for a reason. If the show is really about helping the kids to the other side, as it were, it could definitely do a bit more delving into why some of these kids act the way they do.
I had a very strict upbringing and would NEVER think to behave the way some of these kids do. However, I was never physically/emotionally abused or neglected or cursed/yelled at by my parents on a regular basis either.

Tubedout thanks so much for all your hard work! I really enjoyed watching this storyline, I watched every vid you uploaded, it was great! BBC is stupid, it's not like you uploaded whole episodes! If you did I might understand, but you didn't! You just posted ONE storyline, and I think that should be OK, but it's sadly not Have you tried uploading it another place? Dailymotion might work, they hardly ever take stuff down because of copyright claims there. I would love to see more of this storyline, but I also undestand if you won't upload more. Just saying I appreciate everything you have done, and I'm grateful you gave us the opportunity to see this amazing storyline! Thanks again

I know the non-UK fans must be Matt-deprived and unfortunately my clipping skills are nil so I can't help you guys out there as much as I would love to. But if you don't mind spoilers, this is the preview for the next episode (4x06) where Matt has his "big" storyline of the season. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPp0ZPJVdJ8ETA: Afterelton.com's Gays of Our Lives will apparently feature video of Matt's storyline from this episode in their edition next Monday.

Here's the compilation of Matt scenes from Ep 4x06, courtesy of AfterElton.com's Gays of Our Lives column. Practically nothing happened with Matt in the preceding five episodes, so this is the start of his storyline for this season. The one major event that's obviously happened, did so offscreen and was briefly alluded to in 4x01. If anyone wants background info on Matt or the Kellys, drop me a PM. www.veoh.com/videos/v17492156MX6N9WTTMy spoiler-free review of the episode: There was quite a bit of Matt in it (Chris Geere even got top billing in the end credits) and his storyline was a lot better than I expected. It was tied up pretty neatly at the end of the episode but I sure hope we'll come back to it (and maybe have a different s/l for Matt, even if it's a minor one) some time in the remaining 14 episodes. Fourteen is a lot to sit through without Matt in a storyline of his own! Not to mention, there's a great opportunity here to deal with Matt's mother's feelings with regards to his sexuality, that I hope the writers explore in the future.

Not that I'm only interested in love stories but does Matt not have any love interest in Series 4 at all? Do we ever find out why his boyfriend left him?

since I onlysee clips provided by others (why is the bbc so selfish? man, I'd pay for it if they let me!) the only story line I know of is the Matt / Colin. I wasn't a great fan of the actor who played Colin, but in the last episode of last season, Matt practically proposed to him and came out to his mother! Aren't they going to tell us what happened?

Thanks so much, Tubedout! I can't believe I missed out on this. I've been watching the clips I could download, but now it's just sad that I can't continue with the series.

Yeah, apparently Chris Geere will leave at some point in the coming episodes. I'm really surprised at the number of departures; the hottie PE teacher and Rachel's sister, who were both introduced just this season, have already departed the series in mid-season, after just 10 episodes.
I've been hoping Matt would at least get a new love interest when they write him out of the series, but the pool of candidates is practically non-existent. In today's episode they had several former pupils show up for a careers event, and Steph Haydock bagged the young policeman who was her student some years before. Now, Steph already had an admirer earlier this season, so why couldn't they keep the policeman for Matt? At least HE hadn't taught the guy before, and that was one of the very few ways to organically introduce a new gay who is NOT a fellow teacher (obviously, the other half of school residents - the pupils - are out of bounds).
Since there's a new clip of Matt in the opening credits starting with this episode, I hope he won't be written out till nearer the end of the season. (I should add, a female character was re-introduced this episode; she seems so excruciatingly annoying I'm glad I never watched the series when she was previously on!)

Well, the fourth season is over and it's rumoured to have been Matt's last. Although the character was not written out at the end of the season, the actor has confirmed he won't be returning to the role so I guess they will make an off-screen mention of his departure in the next season's first episode.
Just thought some of you may appreciate a quick recap of Matt's storyline since he took in foster daughter, Sam Kelly. She eventually returned to her birth mother once the mother was able to secure a stable home for her, but Sam and Matt maintained a close relationship thereafter. When Matt tried to start a choir, there was unenthusiastic response so Sam blackmailed her friends into attending. Sam's scheme was eventually uncovered, but Matt managed to drum up enthusiasm for the choir so all was well.
His storyline took a backseat for most of the season, appearing only in the choir storyline and, occasionally, lending support to BFF Steph (whose own foster daughter was killed mid-season). Things came to a head with the choir storyline as the school managed to enter the regional finals. Matt entrusted Flick Mellor with writing the lyrics for an original song, but she felt pressured by the high expectations and plagiarised a song from the internet instead. The day of the competition, the song's actual writer, seeing the school performing his song, turned up and demanded they never perform it in public or otherwise the school would face a lawsuit. With hours to go to the competition, the choir kids, Matt and Steph banded together to come up with new lyrics. They managed just in the nick of time.
At the competition venue, Matt ran into an old acquaintance from Drama School. He was the choirmaster of the rival school that had won the competition consecutively in previous years. He seemed very confident of winning again and belittled Matt's less posh school. However, after Waterloo Rd performed their song, Sam grabbed the mike and told the audience about the difficulties that Waterloo Rd faced and how they overcame it as a family (mentioning Matt's fostering of her) before an embarrassed Matt dragged her off the stage. To everyone's surprise, Waterloo Rd was crowned champions. After the competition, Matt's rival approached and congratulated him, not wanting to be a sore loser. And then he gave Matt his contact details and asked him to call him sometime. Steph quietly told Matt, "Score!" (The guy was quite a hottie.)
And then they all returned to Waterloo Rd only to discover the school demolished by Flick's father in a drunken rage. But everything's fine because only the building's destroyed; the spirit of the school lives on in its students and staff.
The End.

His brother plays Jason Grimshaw in Coronation Street. I knew they looked too much alike to not be related some how.
He was part of a great storyline on Casualty where his played a boxer who's best friend was gay and in love with him. It's posted here in the "other shows" section I think. It was so good.
He's a lovely actor. Good for him.

I see that many of the download links are dead, so I've reupped them. I'll try to work on clipping Season 4 in a while, but I don't know when I'll have time for it. It's my understanding that it wasn't all that interesting a season for Matt anyway. Here are the Season 3 clips, all at MegaUpload: 301-302303304305306307-308309-310312-314315317-319

Well I caught the new season premiere the other night and obviously I didn't expect to see Matt since Chris Geere said he would not be returning for the new season. But I didn't expect zero mention of him, what happened to his character ... even his one-time foster daughter Sam and his BFF Steph failed to mention him. It was as though his character had never existed! (Likewise for the character of Jasmine) However, we did get a lesbian character as the new head of Steph's department and one suspects a faux-seduction by Steph to get her off her back regarding Steph's non-existent teaching skills is in the offing. And in other news, Chris Geere posed for Cosmo magazine in support of the Everyman cancer awareness campaign. He certainly seems to have bulked up since his WR days. Too bad we never got a love scene with Matt and his boyfriend!

So it appears Steph Haydock may be bisexual ... she could really have used advice from her GBF Matt! In other news, I guess Chris Geere is still out of work ... ... but I'm glad he's filling his time by stripping down ;D

Chris Geere is now on a sitcom for Channel 4, Pete Versus Life. He plays the roommate to the title character. I wonder if those photos got him the job (although he is funny), as one episode had him stripped town to nothing but a cloth covering his crotch, and the scene went on for several minutes. He has a nice bod though...nice butt too.
