AfterElton just had an article that talked about the UK series Waterloo Road, which features a gay relationship. How did I miss this one?! Of course, I went on a hunt for clips. Unfortunately, this couple is not yet on YouTube. But I've managed to get a hold of the episodes, and I plan on clipping and uploading the storyline over the next few days. Waterloo Road is a BBC1 drama series about the goings on at a troubled comprehensive school (basically, high school to the US), and focuses on both the students and the teachers. The show is set to begin its fourth season today (Jan. 7). At the start of the third season, a new drama teacher, Matt, was introduced. Matt (pictured) is a gay man in a long-term relationship with his partner Colin. Sorry - I couldn't find a picture of Colin online. Throughout Season 3, Matt's story involves his relationship with Colin, his coming out at the school, and, of course, his interactions with the students and fellow teachers. If you don't mind being spoiled, you can click on the AfterElton link at the top for more details. I'm going to try to clip this storyline as quickly as possible, since the new season is beginning, and I would like to be able to upload those clips as they air. But we'll see..... I'll definitely have Episodes 1 and 2 up tomorrow.

Thank you tubedout for the heads-up! Hope it's a good show!! Thanks for the uploading! And apparently, the soon-to-be husband of Matt is acted by Chris Finch (who is the actor who acted the gay nurse, Karl on Coronation Street). This is gonna be interesting. By the way, tubedout will you be uploading the clips right from where Matt is being introduced?

Unfortunately, I didn't watch Coronation Street, so I did not get to see him in action. I will be clipping from the very start, with Matt's first scene on the show. There are 20 episodes in Season 1, and they are each practically a full hour long without commercials. So it's going to slow me down a bit as I try to watch them all and cut the clips to a YouTube manageable size. But I will, as I said, try to get through it quickly so I can start upping the currently airing material.

Here's the first clip. As the show focuses on the school, you will mainly (pretty much exclusively, in this clip) see Matt. Colin is more like a recurring guest star. These clips are from Episode 301 and 302. Matt showed up late to his first day of work, and therefore only appeared for a minute at the end of 301, so I combined it with 302. In order to meet YouTube time restrictions, I had to cut out a long scene towards the end where Matt holds play auditions. It mainly showcased the kids singing, and Matt primarily was just shown clapping. Thus, you are missing very little. As always, I'll do full clips for downloading. Background on Episode 1 - Matt has missed the entire first day of school because of flight delay issues. The man he is talking to is the head of the school (i.e. the principal). The head has had a very stressful first day back. I inserted a snippet of credits to indicate the switch to Episode 2 clips. Background on Episode 2 - Matt is holding auditions for a school play. He is not out at school, so the female teachers are unaware of his sexual orientation and appear quite smitten with him. The blonde woman screws up pretty royally throughout the day, as she focuses on flirting with Matt over other aspects of her job. (Not like she needed a distraction to screw up.) This is why the deputy head (i.e. vice principal) is chewing her out after finding her singing instead of helping a student she was supposed to help. As I mentioned, I cut out the long scene of play auditions, so this is what they are talking about at the end at the pub. YouTube LinkAnd here is the downloadable clip (at MegaUpload, due to size). I added on a small scene at the very beginning, with two of the other teachers talking about how the new drama teacher is late. And, as I mentioned, the scenes of the school play auditions. Some slight background on this scene - the girl at the end of the auditions, Karla, is new to the school and has Asperger's. As Steph - the blonde woman - is the head of pastoral car (i.e. in charge of looking out for the well being of the students), she is supposed to help with Karla, but has proven to be terrible with her. She thinks Karla is weird, and regularly gets in her face, causing Karla to panic. 116mb, 13 minute wmv file @ MegaUpload

I actually saw all of S1 and S2 of the show and haven't had a chance to watch S3. It's a good show all around. Glad to see this show is gaining some popularity as it is a good show in entirety.

You're welcome, everyone! I agree, Bonobochick - it's actually a nice little show. I'm surprised I never heard of it before. I'm a big fan of British TV. I was also blown away by how much I liked Casualty, though medical dramas tend not to be my thing. I even plan to continue watching now that Toby has gone Thank you for the links, darcolover! I didn't realize that whole storyline was clipped. I have read some good things about it, which tempts me to check it out.... but I also think I read that there wasn't a happy ending for this couple. Which discourages me quite a bit, lol. I need happy endings, or at least the hope that I may get one eventually! The impression I got was that Coronation Street pretty much dropped the ball on this pairing. I should have the next clip up shortly. I'm working on saving and uploading it now. This one has an appearance of Colin!

These scenes are from episode 303, and contain ALL Matt's scenes and ALL Colin's scenes. You don't need much background to follow what is going on, but some things may help or be relevant in future episodes, so: The football game Matt and Steph attend is the first for the girl's team. The head takes away the teams' new uniforms after the game when it comes out that two of the girls lied to raise money for the team (and themselves). This is what Steph is referring to when she says that the football team got in trouble. The head is the guy coming through the door behind Steph in that scene. He's been having a really tough time of things lately due to a serious incident last season. His wonderful girlfriend, a teacher at the school, is out of town at the moment, making him even shakier. So he goes out for drinks with Steph after school, and they end up sleeping together. Also, Steph's take - for once - on the two female students was somewhat true. The girl with the better voice is part of a group of girls that seems to delight in causing trouble and hurting others. The blonde girl with the boyfriend, however, is a true sweetheart. That doesn't make what Steph did in any way right. What a cow! I'm just trying to give you a sense of the students, since their drama may spill over onto Matt's storyline. Also of note - the blonde girl's boyfriend just cheated on her in this episode with her equally sweet (and married at 16) sister. And in case you didn't catch it - that's Colin at the end! Here are the scenes from Episode 304. ALL Matt and ALL Colin scenes are included. I had to split the clip into two parts due to YouTube's time restrictions. Some more information on what is going on with the Ben/HIV storyline outside of Matt - Ben was infected with HIV by his birth mother when he was in the womb. Due to bullying at previous schools, Ben and his mother decided to keep his HIV status private at his new school. Only Steph, the head of pastoral care, was informed. According to the law, she could not divulge the information to others. Ben's girlfriend grew concerned that something serious had happened when all the teachers began acting strangely. So she and her friend did some snooping on Matt's computer and saw the website about HIV. They realized Ben was HIV positive. The friend proceeded to tell everyone at school. Ben returned to school thinking no one knew. But he arrived at the cafeteria only to be shunned by everyone. Seriously - it was HORRIBLE how they treated him. Including the cafeteria workers. Ben's girlfriend grew momentarily spooked by her friend's warning that she may have caught HIV from kissing Ben, and she shunned him as well. She later was annoyed with herself, because she knows that's total hogwash. But by then, Ben has decided to simply switch schools and try to start all over again. It was all quite depressing, which is why I chose to leave in the bit at the end with Ben and his girlfriend. A much cheerier end. I don't think their fellow schoolmates would come around so quickly, but it's sweet that she did. On a different note, Steph bought the underwear to woo the head, whom she had a one night stand with at the end of the last episode, while his girlfriend was out of town. Steph wants to keep an affair going, promising to keep it secret, but he insists it was a one time mistake, and proposes to his girlfriend. Which is what has Steph all pissed and mopey at the end. YouTube LinkYouTube LinkHere's the downloadable clip, at MegaUpload due to size. No further scenes were added, since everything was included in the YouTube clips. 120mb, 14:26 minute wmv file @ MegaUpload

Yay! Thanks for the new clip tubedout!
I loved the way Matt responded to the students when they went all quiet as soon as they saw Ben. I also enjoyed the happy ending with Ben and his girlfriend, and last but not least, Matt FINALLY coming out to Steph.
The guy who plays Ben also played in a "gay" episode of Doctors.
You can watch it here:
sorry if this has been posted before..

Thanks for that video, messme! I had seen it before a while ago, but I totally didn't realize it was the same actor. I found him quite endearing, in both roles! Here's the latest clip, from Episode 305. All Matt scenes are included. Colin did not appear in this episode. A bit of further background - the Steph storyline is the same one that's been going on for the last few episodes. She had a one night stand with the head, he did not tell his girlfriend, he proposed to his girlfriend, and Steph promised she would never tell, but encouraged him to fess up. He did not. Unfortunately, Matt got a bit confused on that point. So the woman broke up with her boyfriend (actually, fiance). He's the guy you see storming past Steph at the end after being dumped. In terms of the student drama - the lead girl in the play, Mika, is dating the lead boy, Brett. He's acting a bit weird towards her. Midway through the episode, she finds out that he slept with her sister. So the crap hits the fan. This is why she is so upset and bails out of the play. YouTube LinkAnd here's the download clip. Again, no further scenes, since all were included in the YouTube clip: 57mb, 7 minute wmv file @ MediaFire

Has anyone here seen the first ep of series 4?? I'm guessing I shouldn't discuss it yet... I saw the end of it - forgot it was on I agree Flippa - for all that Brit tv does some really great stuff, it's almost shameful that we're not very well represented on here I watched S1 & S2 of Waterloo Road but for some reason only saw bits of S3. I think S3 (and by the looks of it S4) has a harder grittier edge to it.

I'm the opposite- saw only bits of S1 and 2 (which is v bad of me as I'm a big Jason Merrell fan) but got right into S3- maybe they got the writing/tone right finally??? I watched S4 ep1 tonight and I"m dying to talk about it! But I won't say anything until this thread has caught up (I have theories though... ;D )

I'm just watching the episodes as I go along clipping, so I definitely haven't seen season 4 yet. I should get to it in a week, I'd estimate. But y'all can definitely start a season 4 discussion thread if you want, since this show has it's own forum now! Here's the latest episode clip. These scenes are from Episode 306. ALL Matt speaking scenes are included. A few scenes with Matt just standing around primarily in the background have been cut. No Colin in this episode - sorry. A bit of further background: In terms of the students - an ongoing storyline has been Brett, the male lead in the play, was dating Mika, the female lead. In the last episode, they broke up and she learned that he had slept with her sister, Chloe. Everyone was furious with Chloe, including her sister and her husband (yep, married at 16). So she ended up running away. Her friends are now worried about her, and Brett is helping with the effort to find her. Mika and Donte, Chloe's husband, are still mad at the beginning of the episode, but by the end, they are also worried and looking for Chloe. Anyway, this distracts everyone from Matt's play. In terms of the faculty - the head (the guy Steph had the one night stand with recently) is facing some serious hot water. The school board had given the school extra funds to improve, and he used that money to pay struggling parents to send their gifted kids to the school. His system worked - the kids came, and helped improved performance for everyone. But it was still not totally kosher. So they suspend him. Despite everyone rallying for him, he chooses to quit. He's too stressed to stay. That's what Matt and Steph are talking about and why she is so upset. YouTube LinkAnd here is the download file. I added in two scenes where the head addresses the faculty about what is going on. Matt is primarily in the background in these, but it helps to explain what is going on, and besides - Matt's sexy when he leans! I left out one other extremely minor Matt-in-the-background scene, when the students and parents stage their protest of the head leaving. It's mainly just Matt standing next to Steph and clapping, and the head gives a looooong speech, so I doubt anyone really wanted to sit through that scene. 32.7mb, 4:44 minute wmc file @ MediaFire

tubedoutThanks for all the uploads. Love them. The storyline is pretty good although I have to rely on your background intro to know what's happening (thank god for them!!) I have enjoyed them and was curious about what's goin on with the students' life too. And sidetrack abit: I realise kids these days are pretty hard to handle. Hahaha. And by comparisons, I have to say the people of my age used to be quite obedient students with a few exceptions of course. I have to give it to the teachers teaching presently. Not easy work.
