Absolute Beginners is a Polish mini-series on Netflix about two best friends (a woman and a man) making a movie together. One of the characters, Niko, is queer. He doesn't get much of a gay storyline. There is one scene, but I don't want to spoil too much. Just know the series isn't very gay at all, so you'll likely be disappointed. I know I was. This is why I post it here instead of making a thread for the show. It was never promoted as queer series. The queerness is supposed to be the surprising factor of the story. It is a tenderly crafted coming of age story focused on two best friends and a stranger, who ignites something in both of them. And two of the leads happen to be queer. Just because there are not men making out every third scene in every episode doesn't automatically mean it's "not very gay." If you judge series based on the number of gay kisses and gay sex scenes, while not being able to appreciate the depth of the characters and the layers in storylines, this one is probably not for you and that's fine. But slamming it for something like this seems absolutely insane to me. Those who appreciate the likes of Gregg Araki, definitely tune in. Killer soundtrack and stunning visuals. Something Poland has never done before and is definitely worth checking out.

There's a new teaser out for the Doom Patrol spin-off series, Dead Boy Detectives, coming soon to Netflix. It's one of those shows that has shifted networks even before airing (originally being developed for HBO Max), this was filmed ages ago and still doesn't have a premiere date, plus Netflix has canceled way too many teen supernatural dramas after only one season, so we probably should be wary of its longevity. The actors who played the boys on Doom Patrol have been recast for this series (one of them was Bash Croft). In their Doom Patrol appearance, it was strongly hinted that one of the detectives was queer and nursing a crush on his partner - I hope that'll still be the case here, and substantially expanded on.

Culprits is a new show on Disney+. The main character is openly gay, with a husband and kids.

Joshua Colley's character Monty is confirmed to be gay and "will fall hard" for one of the two leads Edwin. In Doom Patrol and in the last issue, Edwin actually has romantic feelings for the other lead Charles. Given the showrunner is gay and so are most of the writers here, I wonder if they're gonna go the "safe" route with Edwin/Monty (who's a recurring character I guess? not sure at all and didn't even bother to check tbh) or if they're actually gonna go there with Edwin/Charles

(So is Gage.) Much as I would love to see it, I doubt they will have both the male leads in a relationship with one another. I have to admit, I'd assumed Charles was the one who played for our team based on his style. Does anyone know what the target audience for this show is?

Brazilian thriller Últimas Férias premiering on Nov. 8th looks to have a gay couple on its main cast, although their placement in the cast poster suggests they are secondary leads at best. And I'm not sure if it's the same blond guy kissing a girl later on. He is played by Michel Joelsas who of course had a prominent queer role in another Brazilian series, Boca a Boca - I didn't recognize him with the haircut, blond dye-job and facial scruff! His boyfriend seems to be João Oliveira who also played queer on LOV3. https://www.instagram.com/p/CyOkimVuHB9 Últimas Férias is already out! I haven't watched it yet so I don't know if it warrants its own thread, but from I've seen on twitter is does have a gay couple (or a bisexual couple, not sure), and Michel Joelsas's role seems quite big

Últimas Férias I thought ended up being a decent watch. The couple was more a clandestine relationship as Michel's character was involved with one of the females. There was a sex scene as explicit as the straight characters got, as well as some kissing. No happy ending, though nobody in this show gets a happy ending.

Lukas Gage is though. So at least we'll have one gay actor playing a gay character.

It was released the first tease of Reina Roja (Red queen) based on Juan Gómez-Jurado novels.
Jon the main male character is gay but this is a thriller so don't expect a gay storyline.
The novel is incredibly entertaining, it's a page turner and it was a huge hit in Spain. I hope the show is good too, the actors are good at least.
I don't put the tease here because it's basically Antonia (the main female character) drowning on red pills (which is something that makes sense in the context of the novel).
The story is about an special european police unit (there's one in every country) that are formed by an specially gifted investigator (Antonia) and her parner who is the one who protects her (Jon). Antonia is a tormented character (she lost the custody of her child after her husband was shot) while Jon is quite funny, she is extremely introvert while he is an extrovert (he is a huge, the guy is really big, mommy's boy too), and they made a great team.
There are three novels about them (and the main villain of the story is in other Gómez-Jurado's novels)

IMDB has one version 2002-2013 and another from 2023. I looked it up online, looks like this reboot started a couple of weeks ago. Both actors are credited in all 30 episodes but their roles seem to be secondary, and the trailer focused more on the straight and lesbian relationships (even the brief glimpse of what seems to be the same scene as above, shows a girl-guy kiss instead!)

Is it because Jon has no love life in the novels? They are investigating so no love life (neither him neither Antonia), at least in the novels (it's mentioned that he is not chaste so maybe there are some scenes on the show but that's not the focus)
