There's a documentary series about Alexander the Great on Netflix named Alexander: The Making of a God. Some of the scenes are dramatized. Apparently they don't shy away from his gay relationship with Hephastion. The conservatives are really up in arms about this and arguing that it's revisionist to portray Alexander in a gay male romance. I'd argue they are the ones who are being revisionist since the depth of Alexander's relationship with Hephaestion is well-documented. The scene of them in the river was way hotter than you would expect of this genre; Netflix seems to love trolling the bigots and I'm here for it.

Julian Fellowes' other British period drama Belgravia: The Next Chapter (a sequel to Belgravia) features a gay male regular.
British comedy G'wed features a gay storyline in the third episode where one of them is a regular.

Not a fictional show, but a reality show from Spain. Juanjo and Martin are a gay couple on this season of Operacion Triunfo. I wish we had a reality show subforum, I would have posted it there.

Well, Operación Triunfo will end this monday. Juanjo and Martin are both in the final.
They are very popular. The show was incredibly gay and lesbian (and something in between) this year. Only five of the 16 contestants indentify as straight.
Juanjo and Martin relationship was quite curious to watch. Martin was pretty open about his sexuality, Juanjo on the other hand seemed pretty closeted at first (not anymore). They have quite opposite characters too, and while Martin is totally unexperience in terms of career, Juanjo (who has a pretty amazing voice) participated in a lot of talent shows. By the way Martin is 18 and Juanjo is 19

By the way Martin is 18 and Juanjo is 19 I'm so sad I got into them too late. Being burned before by couples on other shows had me hesitant to get into this show. I found out about it like two months ago, in early January, but refused to get invested (which was stupid in hindsight). I did check them out though, and found out they never kissed, so I just assumed it was a fake showmance, even though people said they were boyfriends (which they also said about Zankie), so I didn't watch, which again was a mistake. Back then I was more into Hollyoaks, which I'm deeply ashamed about now as that storyline went downhill. I wish I would have watched more of OT from the beginning, but my stupidity only lead to about 2 or 3 weeks of watching them. Anyways.... I have tried to catch up on old clips since the beginning, the ones I missed, and I think Martin was out when he went into the house while I don't think Juanjo was. It would explain why Martin was pursuing Juanjo instead of the other way around. It would also explain all the gay panic from Juanjo when Martin started to flirt with him. It's clear Martin wanted him since day one imo. It was obvious with the way he was looking at him, and flirting with him. He never gave up, and it paid off! He won Juanjo over, despite him not even being out. I read that at Christmas he got time off so he visited his family and told them then about his sexuality (and I assume Martin). No offense though, but I doubt they were shocked beecause he's kinda obviously gay. And yes, the cliche about opposites attract is true in their case. Martin is an introvert, who gets lost in his own thoughts, kinda shy and quiet. Meanwhile Juanjo is the opposite: a very confident, proud and loud extrovert. Also, they did eventually kiss (although only a handful of times, they kissed mostly in private). As for the final... what a joke. I'm baffled by the results. Martin had been in trouble before, but was saved, so his 6th place kinda made sense, but Juanjo had done a perfect contest. His 4th place made no sense. I think he was robbed. I know he got a lot of hate from gays themselves. I don't think they liked his personality or something, they were clearly envious and jealous imo. The stuff I saw on Twitter was vile. I also know he got hate from fans of other contestants (like Paul), which combined with casual homophobia and people annoyed with Juantin probably did him in. You could say the homophobia argument doesn't make sense because Paul is also gay, but well... Paul wasn't in a gay relationship during the show. He also wasn't as overtly and obviously gay as Juanjo. Anyways... I stand by my opinion: Juanjo was robbed. He had the best male voice of the male finalists by far. Yet he didn't even make the top 3. I wonder how Paul could have gotten 2nd... there's no way he had the better voice. I think OT is more of a personality contest than a singing contest tbh. The ones with the best voices don't always win. I also wonder if people voted for the others to stop Juanjo from winning, because he only got 13 % of the votes. People probably voted for Paul because he had the better show too (which was very Eurovision-esque imo), compared to Juanjo's simple ballad. I wonder if the song choice had something to do with it. Martin had a ballad too, but his ballad was better than Juanjo's imo. I'm not the only one shocked about it either. Naiara's reaction at Juanjo getting 4th said it all, she was shocked, and she was the winner! Sorry this got so long... I just have many opinions about them, lol. I'm still salty about the results, but it is what it is. I'm glad Lucas ended up in the bottom 3 with them though, because he has been a huge supporter of them since the beginning, and has had only kinda words to say about them and the relationship. It's very refreshing to see such a supportive and accepting straight man. Last but not least: the show is over, but they are not. They are home with their families now, but they were in Madrid today, on their anniversary. They are still going strong, which is sweet.

Here's my best and worst of last year, 2023:
Best: Bodies and Elite. The only two shows were the gays were actually allowed to have sex, and weren't killed off.
Worst: All other shows, including that annoyingly chaste Heartstopper. Because the gays were not allowed to have sex.

Dead Hot, new amazon series, has some gays kissing. Don't know how much screen time they get. One of the gays is the co-lead, so I assume there will be enough airtime for him at least (not sure about his love interest). In other news - trailer out for Ripley, which premieres on Netflix on April 5th. I don't know how overt the queer aspect will be, because not much of a hint in the trailer. But obviously the title character is played by an out actor.

The trailer for Red Flags on Atresplayer just dropped and I'm extremely disappointed. There's no sign of any gay (male) characters, only heteros and lesbians, as usual.

Martin said no comment (but Juanjo's face said everything you want to know). Los Javis promised him a role when they visited the Academia and he was studying Dramatic Arts so it's obvious he wants to be an actor (apart of a singer). From the title of the show it's obvious there will be lots of gay stories

Sometimes gay storylines came from unexpected places. I watched the trailer of Mano de hierro which is about mafia in the docks and all i see is a typical action spanish show, but well, it seems that one of the main characters (Jaime Lorente, Elite, La casa de papel) is a closeted married man, and he has a boyfriend (played by Joel Bosqued).
Given the type of the show, i don't know if there's anything remotely romantic but it seems there are a lot of sex

It is very very short and barely gets any screen time. The gays do get a couple of hot make out sessions, but no gay sex, which is badically homophobic in a show where straigh sex is abundant and explicit.

This show does indeed have a gay storyline! I don't want to spoil too much, but the main character is indeed gay! It makes me very happy.
