I have no idea if this contains spoilers or not, but the Guardian did a Making of Heartstoppers Special:
It includes Joe Locke.

Kit and Joe are here in my city (São Paulo, Brazil) for Comic Con CCXP22... I wonder if they'll be sharing something new about the second season

Heartstopper swept a bunch of awards at the inaugural Children's and Family Emmys, including Outstanding Young Teen Series, Outstanding Lead Performance (Kit Connor as Nick, beating Joe Locke who was also nominated for the same category), Outstanding Guest Performance (Olivia Colman as Nick's mum), Outstanding Writing (Alice Oseman, who adapted her comics for the screen), and Outstanding Casting. (Both of the show's Supporting Performance nominees, Will Gao and Yasmin Finney, sadly missed out.)

Alice Oseman is Attitude's Person of the Year and has some things to say about the future of the series (comic and TV). No spoilers.

Hated this season, just like last season. I will say it was slightly better than last season though, it did feel slightly more grown up, but while I'll give season 1 a 2/10 I'll give this season a 4/10. It was far from good.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
The problem I have with the show:
Once again the characters act like they're 10, not 15. At least this season they included some drinking and partying, unlike the embarrassing milkshake date last season. This is one of the reasons I feel this season is more grown up than last season, last season the characters were written like they were 10. At least now they're dealing with more grown up issues, like exams, drinking, partying etc. I also liked the fact that Nick's coming out was flawed. I felt like that was too perfect last season. The reality is some people are assholes and will not react well to someone being gay and coming out. This is another reason the show feels more "grown up", they didn't surgar-coat it.
I said I had a problem with the one dimensional characters last season, I still feel that way. Ben is evil, no redemption for poor Ben! And he wasn't even fully explored, is he actually bi, is he gay? Who the f knows! The writers totally blew it with that character.
I feel like Charlie is just too much, too sad, a victim of bullying and now the eating disorder? YIKES! It's hard to watch him. What was the point of that eating disorder? Sure, it was handled well, I did like the representation, because many people suffer from it, and Charlie did look very skinny and he was dealing with a lot all season long (like having Nick's coming out to deal with etc, he is taking care of everyone but forgetting to take care of himself). I also liked Nick's reacting to it, it was realistic, he was just there for him and listened, he didn't force him to see a therapist or force him to tell anyone. So I do think it was handled as well as it could be. I just don't see the point of including it at all? Why do all gays suddently now have to have an eating disorder? The same shit was going on in Waterloo Road too. There are so many similarities between the two that I actually wonder if some of it was stolen from it. I feel like the issue was unnecessary, forced, and it was just to create more storylines that takes time away from the main plot. I didn't like it at all. I feel like it's a trend lately.
Nick... why is Charlie with him? Nick is treating Charlie like shit, there is very little difference between how Ben treated him and how Nick treats him. Wanting to keep his sexuality and their relationship a secret, so that Charlie just has to accept it.... wtf?! Charlie should have said fuck off, he is done being someone's dirty little secret. Why would he accept this again, after Ben and after the bullying? It makes NO sense. This will probably also be blasphemy, but Nick and Charlie have ZERO chemistry. ZERO. Their kisses are always awkward and forced, with closed lips. Nick had a TON of chemistry with Ben! I wish they had explored that more, they could have had Ben make a move on Nick. Again, wish they had explored that. Instead of Ben saying he wanted Charlie, I wish he would have gone after Nick. There was so much chemistry there. It's a shame it wasn't explored. I understand Charlie and Nick are the main characters, but to appease the fans of the show they could have had Nick say he loves Charlie, he didn't want him etc. But it would have been interesting I think. Would create some much needed tension too. I have said it before, but I'm not a fan of Nick and Charlie. It's not even the lack of chemistry or forced kissing, it's more the fact that I feel like Charlie and Nick are at different points in life. Charlie needs someone who is out and proud. It's not right that he has to go through secrecy and being in the closet again. While Nick needs to figure stuff out, on his own. They would be better off apart imo.
Once again the gays are not allowed to have sex. I found it HILARIOUS that they made Isaac asexual. So fucking typical. Why not make the straight asexual? Nah, it's always the gays! Fuck this shit. I'm pissed. Gays are NEVER allowed to have sex on tv. I found Issac being asexual actually offensive. What makes it even more baffling is the main characters are ALREADY ASEXUAL!!!!! Nick and Charlie are still not allowed to have sex! I also find it offensive that once again the lesbians got more explicit scenes than the main gays. It's funny how they always cram lesbians into gay shows, but never the other way around? I feel like it's done so they can spend less time on the actual gays, it's offensive. It's one of the many storylines I didn't care about this season, the lesbians and Ellie/Tao. Did not care about those at all.
Now to the few things I actually liked about this season:
Kit was outstanding. He was a bit awkward in the kissing scenes (I think this is more due to the lack of chemistry between Kit and Joe tbh), but he was great in the other scenes. I think the weak plot, cliched storylines, one dimensional characters and many many tropes are lifted by the great acting.
I liked Isaac's storyline, until they blew it with the asexual crap. I also liked the teachers falling for each other, that was sweet. But once again gay sex is strictly forbidden! What's funny is that the fans on the show say "Nick and Charlie are only 14, of course they shouldn't be having sex!" But the thing is... the teachers are not, so why are they not allowed to have sex? Allude to it ffs! Why are gay male characters on tv NEVER allowed to have sex? This is so offensive, like gay sex is something dirty, when it's not. I also want to say that 14 og 15 year old guys are horny all the time. It's obvious this show was written by a woman who has no idea how guys act. It's not realistic. And no, I know this show isn't like QAF. I never would have expected an explicit sex scene, but kissing on bed, starting to undress, then waking up the next morning in bed and talking about it is the absolute minimum!
I just have to admit I don't like the show and I never will. I probably shouldn't have even watched it, because I know it's not my cup of tea. I was just curious and I wanted to watch something gay and there is literally nothing else to watch on tv right now, so I watched it. I know most people disagree with me, and the show has many fans. I'm happy a gay show is popular. I'm just sad it's yet another show where gay sex is forbidden. This show will probably make it easier to create more gay shows in the future, I just hope those shows will be more "grown up", and depict real, actual teenagers, more like Skam and Skins and less PG-13 like Heartstopper.

I see and feel it the same way.
Maybe we are both to old.
I think it is just simple sweet and light, but nothing more.
And also that it is not really my taste, I like it, that it is a success. Currently Number 1 in Germany and a few other countries.

Charlie's eating disorder storyline is there since 2014. It's a big part of the character.

I think it is important to take into account who is the target audience. This show is aimed at a younger audience. This show is not Euphoria or Elite. This is a show aimed at a very young audience, so they can see media that might represent what they are starting to feel and acknowledge about themselves.
This is actually the first time I have seen an asexual storyline in a show and I welcome it. It is not something I fully understand and interested to see how it progresses.
As a 40-something gay male, i fully connect and respond to this show and take it for what it is. I was not someone who was out while in high school so I always find it wonderful to see stories where kids are able to be out while in school. And i love the teachers storyline. Was not expecting it. I connected with the new teacher and his feelings about missing out on those teenage love stories. And i assumed the teachers had sex in Paris during that episode.
Overall, love this show. Makes me cry and feel like a teenager myself. Can't wait for Season 3 and to see where all the characters go next.
