I only red the first part of your spoiler, and frankly, that's what i was expecting, and i think most people watching the clips here watched the O beijo do escorpiao storyline, so they know what to expect too.
Portugal is in the same point Spain was ten years ago in gay storylines on soaps (not that we have a lot of gay characters on spanish tv later)

It makes O Beijo do escopiao look like Queer As Folk to be honest!

It makes O Beijo do escopiao look like Queer As Folk to be honest! But that was expected too. Os nossos días was aired around 1 p m and O beijo do escorpiao was a primetime soap

Tecnho posted a brief clip of Xavier scenes for anyone who wants a preview of what will likely be in Safe light's next clip (has English subtitles):

New clip courtesy of Safe Light: Episodes 258-259, out of 310, now broadcasting 289 still airing until April 2015 ; Safe Light say it is till April and not May as he thought before and tell not to expect too much because of censorship very disapointing

And the kiss ban is really absurd, but nothing new in Portugal. Morangoos con açucar had the same problem, and in that case it was even more pathetic because it was a private channel and the character kisses a guy before but in that case it was a prank, so the message was clear a romantic kiss is not ok but a prank it is.
This reminds me at how the conservative government acted in Spain more than a decade ago, so shows had similar pressures, but frankly, Portugal has marriage equality, it's not nothing new, and it's time to move on in other aspects because that was pathetic. Kudos for the writers, because they obviously wanted to go there with the storyline, unfortunately i can't say the same of their bosses

Sad that even in an European country which has marriage equality the producers are too scared to depict a gay kiss between two consenting adults. This reminds me of the case with Y&R, where the writers and actor were up for it, but the producers got cold feet and axed the coming-out scene after it had been filmed. But I gues Y&R is still worse because they don't have any gay character at all, not even to have offscreen kisses with his boyfriend. (The legacy character who was supposed to come out is still straight, and the supporting gay character they did have was written out without explanation.)

This has nothing to do with scared producers or at least not in the usual sense, they are not scared of people's reaction they are scared of polititians reactions. It's a public channel in a country with a conservative party on the government, and even privates channels has some problems with that.
People's complains are not that important because generally are the same frustrated people showing their colors again and again, but political pressures are different. In a public tv generally the ones with power are people linked to the government, and that explains it all

Some places just aren't ready yet -- jjose712 has a good point (which is repeated by Safe light in the comments sections of several of the videos). This reminds me of a drama from South Korea a few years ago called Life is Beautiful (http://gaydaytime.proboards.com/thread/857/life-beautiful-taesub-kyungsoo) and even some of the earlier American soaps where intimate scenes were limited to hugs and smoldering glances. I still plan on watching because both actors are talented and can do a lot with what little intimacy they can portray.

The problem here is not portuguese people not being ready, they have marriage equality for years without a problem, and some prime time shows despictions of gay affection without much problem, but when it comes to day time there are always some people putting their noses where nobody called them for.
On the other hand, the storyline has exactly all the flaws that most soaps have with gay storylines. Changes in the speed of pace, not hints of David being gay before this episode, barely hints of Xavier being gay before his proper coming out, undedevelopment of characters.
But, it's a soap, it happens the same in american soaps, even a show like Hollyoaks with plenty of experience in gay characters do this all the time. A good written soap is very difficult to find

New clip courtesy of Safe Light: Episodes 266-268, out of 310, still airing until April 2015 he said too :I just found out that RTP1 made an official and public apology about the censorship, in January 2015. They recognized they have received a lot of criticism and complaining from the portuguese audience and they said that it was a bad choice of them, to have cut off those two kisses. me: Hope they will repair it

Safe Light :From what I found out, RTP1 asked to the production company, SP Televisão, to make this storyline exactly like this. So, they didn't cut off the kisses in RTP1, the kisses (if they actually happened) were cut off in SP Televisão, before the final version got into RTP1.

So, they didn't cut off the kisses in RTP1, the kisses (if they actually happened) were cut off in SP Televisão, before the final version got into RTP1. But that doesn't change that's their fault. And yes, the kisses obviously happened, nobody cut the scenes the way they were cut. Portugal is an advanced country but some of their polititians seems to feel the need to control their people's morality. This is a public channel, and it politically controlled. Anyway, it won't be fair put the blame only on them, tvi did exactly the same in Morangos con açucar, and that is a private channel
