Young love on today's episode. Awkwardly cute and surprisingly it wasn't the single throwaway scene I was expecting. I'm wondering where the drama in their relationship is going to come from, though.
As a bonus, the episode starts with Jack's brother Curtis buck naked. Dude may be a jerk, but he sure is a hot jerk.

It was awkward and funny and cute. And I liked how Jack struggled to regain his composure after Edwin kissed him. LOL... However, I would expect anything too heavy. The guy that plays Edwin only did a few weeks of taping and is no longer with the show. They might bring him back though.

Yes, after today's episode, I suspect Edwin (and his daddy drama which didn't make much sense) were simply to start this new thread of Mo not fully comfortable with his son being attracted to other guys. I think it's a fairly realistic issue to explore; Mo's supposedly blanket acceptance while failing to shut down Curtis's homophobic slurs never sat well with me. And dare I say Reuben Milner who plays Jack seems to have improved? (I was very wary how he'd play the romantic scenes for his character after that interview that was published where he was basically terrified of playing a gay character. I know he's young but still, that was a very poor showing.)
Anyway, I'm fine with this direction for Jack - I'm sure it will be a shortlived storyline just like Leanne's casual racism or Kane's teacher sex - but I hope it won't be followed by a long drought for Jack. And if Edwin won't be around, I hope there will new romance for Jack at some point. Every other character seems to have cycled through multiple love interests in the time it's taken Jack to find Edwin. I still think Alex is a possibility especially since Jack has revealed an interest in medicine, he'll probably be hanging around the hospital more now? And that of course will bring its own drama since Jack is 17 and Alex presumably in his mid-20s.
I must comment that it's odd how Jack and his family were only ever introduced because of Kane, and now he's gone but the Hannah family continues to grow!

Is there a place where I can continue to watch Alex and Jack's storylines? Anthony does an update once a week when the storyline is interesting at his dailymotion channel: www.dailymotion.com/soaps1234

Well, you won't be seeing Alex anymore. The show wrote him out yesterday.
Jack's story is continuing, though. I thought it was interesting that Jack was uneasy when Edwin started pressuring him for sex. Having your boyfriend move in after one date has to be a buzzkill though. LOL....

Well, you won't be seeing Alex anymore. The show wrote him out yesterday. /quote] WHY did they wrote him out ?? Because they can't have two regular gay characters in the show??? I really hoped, since I read, Edwin isn't going to stay long, Jack and Alex would become a couple.....

The episodes around Pixie's death were incredible. Sad, but really well-written and -acted. I don't think I've ever seen a soap in recent times go all out for a character's death (especially one who was introduced less than a year ago). The insertion of Maori traditions were a unique touch, and I loved that they actually had a well-attended funeral with Pixie's schoolmates singing in choir. You would NEVER see that on one of the US/UK soaps.
Edwin finally reappeared in today's episode - with an explanation for why he wasn't there for Pixie's funeral - but it doesn't look like there's much hope for him and Jack as a couple. I do like that Victoria's helping Jack with his studies to become a doctor, but I hope that isn't going to be a substitute for Jack's love life. The boy's 17 and still a virgin ... while his classmate/best friend Kane has already banged their female PE teacher. (Speaking of Kane, it would have been nice if he'd merited a mention during the funeral episode, considering how close he and Jack were, and he was involved when Pixie was ill with cancer.)
On a sidenote, I like how Shorty covers a lot of the smaller, social issues which other soaps don't bother with - families struggling to make ends meet, addiction to retail therapy, juggling work and parenthood, etc. - in addition to medical storylines that are well-researched and topical. I never knew there was such a thing as secondary drowning.

I guess Edwin and Jack are done as of today, and we won't see Edwin again (I believe it was revealed earlier that the actor was done filming). I'm concerned that Jack himself is due to be written out along with his family. It looks like Curtis will be jailed for his drug-dealing, Victoria's been threatened by a rapist, Mo and Margaret's marriage is on the rocks, Jack may be going to college soon ... all this on top of the exits of Garrett, Kane, Clementine, Alex, Caleb, Pania and Pixie.
I don't know if there's some kind of regime change but they've written out most of the characters introduced over the past year. I know Shorty renews its cast every now and then, but I don't recall such a purge in a short time?
