I'm not sure it will lead to anything but Shortland Street appears to be building its newest family, the Hannahs, around Jack. His little sister Pixie and their dad Mo were introduced earlier this year. Pixie arguably has the biggest storyline; recently diagnosed with cancer and in a romance with Harry Warner, the son of one of the show's original characters. The Hannahs are cash-strapped and Mo recently took up a job as a healthcare assistant in the emergency department of the titular hospital. Today they introduced a fourth member of the family, Jack's elder brother Curtis, who immediately began throwing homophobic slurs at Jack and Kane (whom he accused of being Jack's boyfriend). I guess we'll have to see how this develops ... I do wish the Kane actor was playing Jack though, he's far more capable.

ferdavid, not that I'm aware of, unless Anthony Langford plans to make any. I doubt he will, since it's not really been Jack's storyline, in that he's not a character with a POV (point of view). I actually thought the character was gone for good until they brought him back earlier this year to support his best friend Kane (whose absent bio-dad had recently popped back into his life). Even then I didn't think too much of it because he was still a supporting character to a supporting character. I was really surprised when they revealed that the girl on whom Harry Warner was developing a crush was Jack's little sister, and then brought on their father and eldest brother, too.
That being said, I have my doubts that Jack himself will be developed as a POV character. He didn't have one during his coming-out storyline (which took place offscreen and what little took place onscreen focused on how it affected Kane, not Jack) and he didn't have one last month when he stole money from Kane's dad to pay for Pixie's medical treatment (again the focus was on how it affected Kane and Kane's sister as they disagreed on how to confront Jack about the theft). I don't know if it's because the showrunners feel the actor can't pull it off, because they seem to developing POVs for the rest of his family, even his brother who just showed up one episode ago!
It should be noted that Shortland Street has a dismal record when it comes to gay representation. It's ironic when you consider that they were (to my knowledge) the first English-language serial drama to depict a gay sex act on screen - a record not surpassed until earlier this year on Days of Our Lives when Will and Paul had sex. But all the stories Shortland has written for LGBTIA male characters have been poorly-conceived and inevitably seem to involve converting gay characters into bi or asexual. I suppose we can't fault them for lack of originality; I can't think of any other soap which depicted asexuality - but they made a hatchet job of it.

It's even more telling that both Pixie and Curtis (Jack's siblings) have stories of their own, including love interests while Jack remains a background character. Curtis is a virulent homophobe, but it's more about Kane's reaction to Curtis than Jack's relationship with his brother. It can't be just because the actor is dreadful (which he is), this show is bursting with bad actors, but many of them have storylines. I'm not sure why the show has taken with tack with Jack, giving him a family, yet keeping him a minor player in the drama. Oddly enough, spoilers for later in the month indicate that newcomer Alex is a closeted case, leading to another coming out story.

Alex has pinged my gaydar from the very beginning, but we needn't speculate any longer - the ending of today's episode was Alex in a gay kiss. Of course, tomorrow's previews show him denying being gay or bi ...
I'm doubtful that we'll have two gay characters in separate circles, so I fully expect Alex to hook up with Jack in the near future. (Jack should be 17 if he's Kane's age, if not older, and the age of consent in NZ is 16.)

How could anyone NOT know Alex was gay? Just look at him! Besides, no straight man ever wants to 'take things slow'. LOL....
BTW, how are Alex and Clementine siblings? Is one of them adopted or something?
I agree that Alex and Jack are headed for at the very least a hook up if not a full on romance. My guess is that Alex's secret boyfriend gets tired of the closet drama and dumps him. And after Alex finally admits he's a 'mo he and Jack get together.

This show's track record with gay characters isn't very good. A gay character/storyline is usually featured every season, but the storytelling is usually bad. I'm hoping that changes this time.
