Not sure why they keep having Jack misinterpret there being any chance of getting together with Cam. I suppose he could yet be bisexual, but right now he seems pretty into Kylie and no hint of homosexual encounters in his past. He was very nice about turning Jack down. Shortland has a tendency to replay the "obsessed stalker" trope (Lucy's dad, before that Victoria, before her Pania) - is Jack doomed to turn into a bunny boiling stalker?!

They had a really sweet and sexy afterglow scene as well. I never thought the story would go in that direction and when it did, I didn't think they'd show them in bed. Surprised me both times. I think the relationship will end in utter disaster like all relationships on this show does, but I'm glad to see Jack finally give up his V card. And Cam is a cutie. I also liked the scenes with Cam and his brother Drew after her found about about them.

Interesting scenes. Of course I haven't watched any of the show before so I have lots of gaps  . I take it Jack was already out? And it sounds like he had been crushing on Cam a bit already before this? But Cam had been in relationships with women, so this is new for him? If so, it's nice to see him just go for it without hangups. |

He has been on the show for a couple of years now (wikipedia says since 2014!) - and was out through most of that time. His first crush was Kane (played by KJ Apa - who is currently playing Archie on Rivendale) - that was completely one-sided.
I have lost track of what he has done since - his storyline hasn't had much excitement, and Shortland Street some times makes Days look like Shakespeare - so I find it tough to watch. The show has been pretty progressive - I think there have been multiple gay characters over the past ~10 years, and Karl Urban played a gay role on the show early in his career (~1993). I was looking through my youtube subscriptions last week, and noticed the channel with Karl's character's scenes is still up(https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuoR3hsPNu4GOODxxtNPmZA). Anthony has posted a few clips here and there about Jack - and it looks like a lot of those links are still up.

Basically the abridged version of Cam and Jack's story is that Jack started working at the IV to help pay tuition fees since he wants to become a doctor. Cam is the head chef there, and Jack gained quite the crush on Cam. The first time he came on to Cam, Cam just said he was flattered, but at the time he was pursing Kylie (the blonde lady at the bar). Cam did end up dating Kylie (and Jack tried to declare his love to Cam only to find Kylie and Cam in bed together) but she broke up with him pretty quickly. Cam took it really poorly and started doing a lot of coke, and even got Jack's brother Curtis to do coke with him too. They had one party where Cam's dealer OD'd and died, and Cam found a bag of his drugs and took some for himself before giving it over to the police. The dealer's supplier found out and tried to get Cam to deal drugs as repayment for stealing, where he would be dealing with another guy, who Jack recognized as an undercover cop. Cam didn't want to do the dealing and agreed to just return the stolen drugs, but Jack had already broken into Cam's room to steal the drugs so he wouldn't get caught by the police officer. Jack brought the drugs back to his house and he and Curtis were trying to figure out what to do when the police raided the house and found Curtis holding the drugs. Curtis and Mo (Curtis and Jack's father) decided that even though Jack was the one who brought the drugs into the house, that Curtis should take the blame since Jack has such a promising future to become a doctor. Mo took the guilt really hard and basically blamed Cam for the entire situation, and made Jack quit working at the IV because of it, and also because he figured out that Jack was in love with him. |

Just found this show, Jack and Cam are cute together. Though I see them running into a lot of problems, it being a soap and Mo hating Cam. How many siblings does Jack actually have, I know his sister died. But he has three other siblings? Curtis, Leroy, and the short kid who works at IV with him?

I don't think Jack any siblings left on canvas. Pixie is dead, Curtis is in prison. Leroy is his cousin, not his brother, I believe. Blue is not his brother. That's Kate's transgendered son. He just lives with Jack because Kate and Mo are a couple.

Or will he be coming back any time soon? I wonder what Curtis would think of Cam and Jack together as a couple? I get why Mo is upset, his teenage son is romantically involved with an older man, whose also been involved in drugs and in an accidental way led to his other son being put in jail. I don't see any parent reacting well to that news. How much older than Jack is Cam anyways? I'm guessing he's in his twenties. |

She was staying with Vinnie and Nicole but once her romance with Mo got off the ground, she and Blue moved in with him and his family (currently just his younger son Jack and nephew Leroy). As Anthony mentioned, Jack's sister Pixie died and his brother Curtis went to prison for a crime actually committed by Cam. It was a convoluted story. Cam was a habitual drug user but cleaned up his act when he fell in love with Kylie. When she broke up with him, he went back to the drugs. He encouraged Curtis who was working in his bar to join him - Curtis is NO stranger to drug-taking and was more than happy to fall in with Cam when it seemed his love interest Esther had turned him down in favour of Finn. Then Cam's dealer OD'ed at a drug-fueled party in Cam's restaurant. Cam took his drug stash off him, originally to avoid having drugs in his restaurant but then he decided why not take it for his own use. Curtis did not approve. Then Cam's dealer's boss came after him and told Cam he had to start dealing for him. Cam didn't want to but the drug kingpin threatened Cam and people he cared about, including Jack. Jack recognized his policeman love interest was working undercover with the drug kingpin and wanted to save Cam (on whom he had a long unrequited crush) so he took the drugs from Cam's room and took them home. UNfortunately, Cam was just going to return the drugs to the boss having wriggled out of dealing, but the drugs were gone. Then police raided Curtis's home and found the drugs. To keep Jack out of it, Curtis confessed to having taken the drugs from the dead dealer and since he was on a suspended sentence he got sent straight to prison. It's worth noting Curtis should have been in prison a long time ago anyway, he was a bigtime sleazeball with a litany of crimes which make Cam look like a saint by comparison. I don't know if the actor wanted out or if they just felt Curtis's story had come to a conclusion. So Cam is a bit of a sleaze (taking drugs from a dead person!) but he is not himself a dealer, despite Mo's claims. He never wanted to deal and he never did. I am not sure how old Cam is, but as a comparison his brother Drew is played by an actor in his late 30s. So I am guessing Cam is in his late 20s, maybe a decade older than Jack. But Jack's last boyfriend the policeman was also older (and looked older than Cam) and no one had any qualms about the age gap then. I am not sure Mo is 100% comfortable with Jack being gay, so there could be some of that colouring his hatred of Cam. I actually think Cam has grown a lot as a character and I really like him - more than Jack if I'm honest - plus the actor has this earnest cuteness, like a puppy desperate to please, which really works for him. But this being Shorty I fully expect they will either undo his progress in a blink of an eye or have him cheat on Jack - with a woman - sooner rather than later. |
