Holby City is a long running BBC medical series.
The setup is that Antoine Malick is an openly gay doctor. He was revealed as gay earlier this year when he first came onto the show. Dan Hamilton, also a doctor is straight (?) with a girlfriend named Chrissie who is a nurse at the hospital. He and Malick have been constantly at odds over medical issues for a few weeks now with things growing more and more intense. You can imagine where this is headed. These are the scenes from this week's show in 2 parts.

Thanks, Anthony for posting the clip. I wish there could be another way for soap writers to create new ways for introducing "question of sexuality" storylines. Yet, as we're all to aware: beggars can't be choosers".

Didn't Holby have another story about angry sexually confused men (one gay, one sexually confused) who beat each other up? Or was that Casualty?
This is all just about creaking onscreen - I groaned when he ran to his girlfriend and got her to have sex with him. It's been done so many times...I think for me the definitive was Craig/Sarah on HO.
On the plus side, for some reason Dan reminds me of about 4 actors I like, especially the gorgeous Reed Diamond, and he's a decent actor. So is the guy who plays Antoine. Why didn't HO cast HIM as Noah? The anger and the kiss were built up to very believably - this is probably one of the best scenes I can remember for capturing that type of moment. I heard some commentary that the kiss wasn't "hot" enough, but really, it shouldn't be.
Thank you for taking the time to share this with us. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered watching. I don't know the spoilers but if this ends in anything beyond public humiliation and suicide attempt and gay-bashing, then I may watch again. Especially if they continue to be topless (or more).

Now I know where I saw the guy who plays Dan - he was one of Billie Piper's johns on Secret Diary of a Call Girl...his character had a big endowment and it was tough to get it working properly.
I really like the moment in this where Antoine sort of smells him/presses his cheek against Dan, and then after Dan breaks away, Antoine's weird combination of whatthefuck and smugness and horniness.

If HOL had gotten the actor portraying Malick to portray Noah, then certain folks would have complained about his age. That he's too "old" for Ste, even though the actor looks to be the same age as Scanlan. Regardless, HOL didn't and Holby City did. Thanks again, Anthony

I know it's cliche, but I like Malick alot and I think he and Dan have chemistry. I'll be watching as the story unfolds.

He is a little older but I think Ste would be drawn to that - he has a lot of daddy issues.
You're right, anthony, they do have chemistry, and I was liked the way the scene was built up to. It's one of the most believable angry/shocked kiss types of scenes I can remember. The actors don't look scared, or confused, and you can't tell they're acting.
I think I'm so wary of where these stories can go that it colors the current story but hopefully it will give some great drama - what I would most like is if Chrissie was written out of the story fairly early on and the main focus is on the complexities between Dan and Malik. But I don't know any spoilers...

Sure it's cliche, but the actors have strong chemistry and it was a believable build up. So I'm excited for more. I wonder if Dan ever had feelings or desires for a man before or this is a first for him. He looked so shocked and scared at what he had just done. But I thought it was a great kiss. There was so much tension in the room that something was bound to happen. I like the fact that they are interesting characters on their own and interesting together.
I just hope Dan doesn't get in serious trouble for what happen with his best friend. I just have this feeling that the wife is going to take her anger out on him. Like making sure he can't practice medicine anymore or personally sue him.

I'm glad that people enjoyed it so much - I saw negative reaction elsewhere so wasn't sure of the reaction. I did have mixed feelings with some of the story but I really like the actors and their scenes together.
I've seen some speculation that Dan is in love with his best friend and doesn't realize it.

You know before I realized he was his best friend, I thought he might have been his maybe something. Maybe he's gay late in life and hasn't realized it yet. Or maybe he's bisexual and has never interacted with his gay side before.

Didn't Holby have another story about angry sexually confused men (one gay, one sexually confused) who beat each other up? Or was that Casualty? Holby did have a gay story lines years ago. The 2 man where openly gay. I think they got into a fight and one men fell badly and injured an organ and eventually died. Not sure if you meant this storyline. Oh actually found the fight on YT: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrpIoabTn04&feature=relmfuThanks Anthony. I haven't watched Holby in years. Now I have a reason to start watching again

I actually remember that storyline because it took place on 2 shows as one cast member was on casualty tony and other one was on holby Ben and the storyline took place on both shows

I LOVED how Paully (or Polly), was about to tell Chrissy (Dan's girlfriend) that he thought that Dan was gay. He's quick to realize that she's completely clueless about her boyfriend. Dan DOES have chemistry with Malick, but until he gets to the point of admitting that attraction to himself, he's STILL going to be a shitty doctor. Malick IS a hottie, smart, honest with his patients and doesn't take bullshit from anybody. IF he's going to end up with Dan, I want Malick to make him WORK for the right to be with him.

I hope Malick has a boyfriend because Dan is not ready (totally agree with you there). Also, I'm still getting over the way he says "Rugby Boah". Freaking Hottie!

Dan is SO not ready for Malick and I hope that the writers don't have him, putting his life on hold, dumping a current guy he's with or somehow, "falling in love" with Dan RIGHT NOW, because of how hot they could be as a couple, some day. That's the one cliche that annoys me, about these coming out storylines. Malick, should be written with having a bit more respect for himself at his age. He's not a teen, who's just come out and is the only gay in his village/city/town, thinking that he'll never not have a chance to fall in love with anyone. I hope Malick has a boyfriend because Dan is not ready (totally agree with you there). Also, I'm still getting over the way he says "Rugby Boah". Freaking Hottie!

I don't think Malick is going to become weak and fall for Dan whose clearly not ready for anything. I would hope that he would be strong and not let Dan have him live half a life. I do think that there will be lots of sexual tension and chemistry.
I loved Polly and I'm glad he didn't tell Chrissy about what he thought about Dan. At the moment it would only hurt her. I'm sure Dan and Chrissy will both end up hurt at the end of this, it is a soap after all.
Though Dan was right about Polly's ex partner. Living your life to the fullest without them is the best revenge.

Don't all relationships on this show (or most dramas, really) end in misery? If the last major gay story on the show ended in one man beating another to death, then I can't imagine this will be any happier.

Pathetic. Complaints. www.digitalspy.com/soaps/s19/holby-city/news/a325390/holby-city-gay-kiss-defended-by-bbc.htmlAt least the BBC is giving people more reason to complain now. A few years ago there was an uproar because Christian on Eastenders was fairly chastely kissing his then-boyfriend when they were sitting somewhere outside. Now there are complaints for men cuddling in bed together and gorgeous half-naked men fighting and making out. Soon we will be on our way to complaints over actual sex scenes.

It's ridiculously annoying that there has been complaints about the kiss and that the BBC even had to defend themselves at all but i'm glad that they did. Let's just hope that they stick to what they say and don't water down the storyline as a result of the complaints. Soon we will be on our way to complaints over actual sex scenes. Now that's something i would love to see lol .
