This whole thing with Paul is the shows why to trying to keep him relevant. Let's face it without Sonny and or Will Paul has no story line. Not to mention that he has little personality, he's about as exciting as dry toast. I couldn’t agree more and even dry toast is more exciting than Paul. I don’t know how much more of this storyline I can take before I check out.

I still can't come to terms with the reasoning behind Will's draw towards Paul. The "I don't feel pressured being around you" is lame, dishonest and uncreative. But today was just laughable by Will putting his connection to Paul on the same level as to Marlena. The guys have barely talked since Will came back to Salem, and the interaction between him and Paul can't even be compared to what Will have shared with Marlena over the past months. ThisWill doesn't know Paul. I think they have spoken three or four times since he came back to Salem. This so forced that why I am having a hard time buy it. Will doesn't know ,but now Will doesn't know Sonny as well do you forget it?Both of them are strangers for Will.

Curiously i think it's very easy to understand why he feels as comfortable with Marlena as with Paul (for different reasons). Marlena is the only one on his family and friends that don't push him towards what he used to be. She loves him and respects him and gives him time and space withat pressure. Paul doesn't lie to him (which is a big deal when almost everybody is hiding things from him), so it's easy to understand why he is comfortable with Paul. Of course there's the fact that Paul is not that comfortable with him but the new Will seems to have no problem ignoring that. In both cases he doesn't need to try being someone who he is not and for him that's a lot. And breaking with Sonny is the best thing he could do. It's quite obvious that he doesn't feel well around him and if Sonny is smart he will give him time, because trying to reconnect right now is a dead road

When Will asked about their ONS Paul told him that he had seduced him for a byline. That did not happen. Then Will asked if he had outed Paul and Paul did not correct him. Outing has very negative connotations and suggests that the person concerned is being outed against their consent. Again, this did not happen. Also Paul has failed to mention the fact that Will blackmailed his mother, or that he punched Will in the face in front of Arianna. Or that Will went to his grave hating him. That is lying by omission. All this makes a nonsense of Will's claim that Paul is on the same level as Marlena.

As much as I'm enjoying the SL to some extent we can't act like Paul is a saint and didn't do some pretty disgusting things against Will. I try to mentally block out that period of toxic writing because the writers along with what you said that is cannon - want us to also believe that Sonny simply settled for Will and Arianna because he couldn't have heaven sent Paul. So for me, both the WilSon and Hortia relationships are kind of eh :/ but I'm really liking Will and Sonny being apart for a while. I think if the show does go with a WilSon endgame this has the potential to be the perfect redemption arc for both Sonny and Will. Hopefully, during this time Sonny opens a business again and goes back to being a character I want to root for as well as going back to not caring about Titan.

Sorry, but Will was using Paul during the whole interview storyline. He was the one who was married, and he was the one who didn't mind on cheating. And yes, he pressured Paul to come out for the sake of getting the story (he did a lot of questionable things during that time).
And thinking of an endgame is absurd unless they are going to write off one or more characters. What they need is to develop the characters and the storyline because right now two of the three main characters are boring as hell

I can't fault Will for being drawn to Paul - with his memory loss, it's like the first time he saw him and felt an intense attraction, so much so that it convinced him to betray his marriage vows to Sonny. And they did have an emotional connection, even if it's now being repainted as a one-sided seduction/affair that was purely physical with Will harboring ill motives (to out Paul for the sake of a headline). That rewrite tells me this is ultimately going nowhere, which is a pity because Chandler (like Guy before him) has pretty good chem with Christopher and they could be hot together, unlike the painfully bland WilSon pairing. Can we at least get a few sex scenes out of Pill before Will inevitably returns to his white-bread marriage to Sonny? (I don't remember him being this dismal the last time Chandler was in the role.)
I realize how strongly I dislike Sonny because I actually clapped my hands in glee when he went all teary-eyed at Will saying he wanted a divorce. What an insufferable POS he is, using Arianna to guilt-trip Will into staying unhappily married to him. Where was his commitment to Will and Ari when he flounced off to Paris - he never stayed in contact with either of them? And then he ABANDONED that little girl again right after she lost her father. I hate that he is portrayed as a good father. At least Will wants to stay involved in her life and co-parent, even if he's not together with Sonny.

And yes, he pressured Paul to come out for the sake of getting the story (he did a lot of questionable things during that time). And thinking of an endgame is absurd unless they are going to write off one or more characters. What they need is to develop the characters and the storyline because right now two of the three main characters are boring as hell That is not what happened. Will was given an assignment to write a profile about Paul and did not even know Paul was gay until Paul hit on him. Kate read the profile and suggested that Paul was hiding something. Will then flat out asked Paul if he was gay and they slept together. By then it had been established that Paul had no career to lose and he was convinced that Sonny still had feelings for him. He was also lonely and fed up of living a lie. The only thing holding him back from coming out was his fear of losing his family. Will recounted his own experiences of coming out and then put forward the idea of Paul talking about his sexuality in the article. Paul was not receptive but gradually came round to the idea. But, at every stage, Will insisted he would not write anything without Paul's consent. In fact, Will allows Paul to read the piece before it is published and says if Paul has changed his mind he will not submit it. Paul gives Will the go ahead and the article is published. This nonsense about Will 'seducing' Paul for a byline is a rewrite. Paul was the one who repeatedly hit on Will. During their first meeting Paul attempts to ply Will with champagne. During their second meeting Paul hits on Will again and they sleep together. Will decides it cannot happen again but Paul lures him back to his hotel room and attempts to jump him but Will rebuffs him. And if Will had prostituted himself for a magazine article and cold heartedly outed Paul why has Paul waited two years to mention it? And while it is true that Will did questionable things during that period, so did Sonny who spent all their money, hid the fact that Paul was in town and that he'd kissed him and failed to make it clear to Paul that he should back off interfering in his marriage to Will. And why would an endgame mean one character has to leave? That would suggest that Sonny, Will and Paul have no other function than to be caught up in a gay love triangle. Will is a powerful legacy character, while Sonny is a Kiriakis and Paul, the son of John Black. Those attributes alone are enough to generate SLs that have nothing to do with romantic entanglements. It's just a pity the writers are too short sighted to see this.

What kind of emotional connection did Will have with Paul? As soon as Will found out who Paul was he was ready to do anything to get him out of town even blackmailed his mother. They had sex they didn’t have any emotional connection. For the life of me I can’t see why Will would want to be will Paul. They exchanged a couple of words and Will didn’t seem to care then he see him in a towel and he’s hooked. Make no sense to me except Will is horny and there’s only three gay people in Salem.
This is an American daytime soap, it’s not cable. There is no way there are going to have two gay couple on the show. Eventually one of the characters Wil gave to go, that’s my feeling anyway.

Again, it's not about emotional connection, it's about sexual atraction. It's very simple, right now Will doesn't feel anything for Paul or for Sonny, but he has no pressure with Paul and he feels more attracted towards him. As simple as that. And frankly, i don't understand why people are so mad at Will wanting sex with Paul (right now there's no hint that he wants nothing more than that). Will and Sonny together and happy right now means boring storyline and zero airplay in no time

Will and Sonny together and happy right now means boring storyline and zero airplay in no time Having Will link Paul and Marlena together in the same sentence as the only two people who are not pressuring him and who he feels comfortable suggests that he feels more than mere sexual attraction for Paul. And who are all these other people who are pressuring him? He's barely spent any time with his friends and family because he's been too busy chasing Paul. Will wanting sex with Paul far more than he seems to want his memories back is the thing that people are rightly thinking is nonsensical. Will's history is much more than him having cheated on Sonny. He has a whole network of friends and family who watched him grow up and who love him, not to mention a four year old child who needs the man who took a bullet to save her life and doted on her up until the time of his 'death'. Will claiming he doesn't want to be that person any more is just daft. And you are right putting Will and Sonny together right now would be ridiculous, especially as their marriage crashed and burned so badly. But the SL should be much more about Will struggling with his memory loss and trying to deal with his friends and family than a dumb romantic triangle, which is literally the last thing that someone in his situation would be bothered about.

bilal, I think it would be well-suited to the Will/Chandler thread.
sonia, I personally felt Will and Paul did share an emotional connection above and beyond purely sexual attraction. Will made Paul confident enough to bare his soul to the world and reveal the secret he'd kept all his life from his family and the public. That's not something you agree to on a whim with a guy to whom you only share a sexual attraction. I'm sure Paul had many other guys fall into his bed and they went their separate ways after that but his affair with Will did have an additional layer to it. The show may have rewritten it, or Paul is lying, to depict it as a sleazy seduction for professional gain by Will. It wasn't. Paul trusted Will to tell his secret to the world.
For his part, Paul made Will feel desirable and comfortable in his own skin when he was at a low point (feeling like a failure who wasn't good enough for Sonny). And I think the latter is what's happening again in the present - with Sonny, Will feels the pressure of expectations and responsibilities, as a husband, a father, a son and grandson. With Paul, there is none of that, and he's said as much. Of course he could - and should - choose any random gay guy off the street for no-strings-attached fun if that's all he wants, instead of making a messy situation even messier by pursuing his husband's ex-fiance. But I don't believe it is that simple, it's not only a matter of 'playing the field' to Will ... he does, once again, feel a pull towards Paul that goes beyond sexual attraction.
I fervently hope the show will let Paul regain some of his mojo and yes, perhaps even a bit of a dark side. He's too much of a nice guy at the moment. Sonny cruelly dumped him and smashed his heart into smithereens. To Paul's critics who claim he went into the engagement to Sonny with his eyes wide open about Sonny's history with Will and so bears responsibility for how it turned out - you are overlooking how Paul had a lot of doubts about going through with the wedding. He questioned Sonny about his feelings for presumed-dead Will and Sonny was the one who assured him that Paul was his "one and only". So Paul let himself believe that - because he wanted to believe that - but only after Sonny told him that to his face. So Sonny is the one who misled Paul and gave him false hope that Will was firmly in his past.
I hope the next time Will throws himself at Paul, Paul will take him up on the offer - and arrange for Sonny to discover them in flagrante delicto. It would serve jerk-face Sonny absolutely right. What an underhand move to trot Arianna out to guilt Will into staying married to him! This is the same little girl you abandoned TWICE.

Does anyone remember that essay Will wrote about his life and his family (Ari, Sonny, Gabi)? He was a little uncomfortable about Sonny read it so it must be pretty personal. I know he reads some his writing but are they about him? I guess he read/told/saw his previous life but I wonder how much he knows. Tho he seems more interested in Paul then his past.

I don't hate him but he did Paul dirty. And using Arianna to try to rope Will in was really unconscionable. Paul is getting vilified by a lot of viewers but much of it is unfair. He's often being maligned for the actions and choices of others. The way some people reacted for Paul keeping Will a secret for 24 hours was the kind of reaction you'd expect if 6 months had passed. Jeebus! I also feel Paul needs to be more grey and decidedly darker. It's vitally important if this triangle is to succeed and for the storyline to be more compelling. I'm interested right now. But, Paul is so good. Will is trying. Sonny is inherently good just like Will. There's just too much goodness. I still consider myself a WilSon fan but I'm not really feeling them thus far. I feel like Paul and Will have more chemistry. And I wouldn't mind at all if Will pursues his feelings for Paul while Paul struggles with his burgeoning romantic feelings for Will and his loyalty to Sonny. I don't know how long Chandler is staying. I've read conflicting reports, stint vs. contract. But, it would be more original if Will's amnesia continues at least in the short term while his feelings grow for Paul. Perhaps, during that time he attempts to reconnect with Sonny unsuccessfully and then BAM he remembers but he doesn't choose Sonny. I doubt that would happen. I feel Paul always loses. And honestly, Will and Sonny were still in their newlywed phase when Will cheated and that wasn't amnesia. Right now, I feel most strongly about Paul and I want him to be happy. And I want Will to be okay. I think Sonny puts an inordinate amount of pressure on Will. Sometimes, it's not even what he says but how he practically pleads with his eyes. So happy Will is back and they didn't jettison Paul into the ether.

I love Paul, I think he is a great addition to the show and Christopher's acting did not make me cringed despite the material he was given. And the way they wrote Sonny recently is really bad, how could he even accuse Paul trying to get on with Will is beyond me. I am sure Paul will not be so stupid that he will hook up with Will just so that Sonny and Will do not get together so he can get it with Sonny. And that he knew Paul longer than Will and is even on the verge of getting married to him, surely he would know how Paul is as a person. The writers are really making me so hard not to like Sonny.

This whole thing with Paul is the shows why to trying to keep him relevant. Let's face it without Sonny and or Will Paul has no story line. Not to mention that he has little personality, he's about as exciting as dry toast. My biggest problem is the way the characters of both Will and Sonny have been assassinated in order to accommodate the character of Paul. Two years ago, Will was written as a serial cheat, manipulator, blackmailer, liar and all round douche, while Paul was the put upon victim whose only crime was to love Sonny and consequently a better match for Sonny than Will. Two years later, we have Sonny written as the heartless, insensitive, judgemental, manipulative, jerk, while Paul is the put upon victim whose only crime was to love Sonny. Meanwhile he is the only person Will feels comfortable with and is consequently a better match for Will than Sonny. It's lazy writing and one can only hope there'll be a turn around in the not too dim and distant future. If we are to root for Paul it should be because he is an interesting dynamic character with the ability to drive story lines forward and not because other characters are turned into jerks in order to make him look like the better option. I also agree that little to no work has been put into developing the character of Paul, who has no function other than to provide angst for Will and Sonny.

I don't like the way everything is always is about Will. In 2015 everything that happen was because of Will actions the affair, Paul finding out John was his father and Sonny leaving town both times that was because of Will. Sonny and Paul just reacted to his actions they really didn't do anything of their own. Everything that Sonny has done lately is something Will did in 2015 he tried to manipulate Sonny with the marriage counselor, he tried to use Ari to get him to stay in town and he blamed Paul for everything. But Sonny chose to stay with Will and Will chose to move into the mansion with Sonny. Sonny didn't make him do anything. Some people posed up thread that Paul is getting a lot of the blame. Where? Everywhere I go I see Karma for Sonny and he deserve it. I'm just bored with the story right now. Ray Charles can see they are writing Sonny like this so they can push Will and Paul. That's one of my pet peeves about soaps that one character written different to prop up another character or couple.

I agree with most of your post. I used to love Sonny. Amen to the bold parts. I don't hate any of them. The writing as others have mentioned is shoddy but this is par for the course for Days. They've had gay characters for years and I've yet to see them use the usual terms of endearment then there's the other ways they aren't treated the same. But, the writing overall is wanting. I like Paul. He lost Sonny many years ago because he wasn't ready to come out of the closet. And he shouldn't be demonized for it. He got his second chance with his first love. Likewise, Sonny "lost" Will violently after he left for Europe. The measure of guilt he felt is certainly a factor now. I don't like that his feelings for Paul, the man he was prepared to marry, seem to have vanished. Sonny is the victim of bad writing but he was, even as he was off-screen, when he basically abandoned Arianna. The writers could have fairly easily arranged for Gabi & Co. to mention overseas visits and video chats and whatnot. Being overseas doesn't mean you can't be a good parent. Will is an amnesiac. This isn't how I would have written his return but it is what it is. I don't blame him for pouring cold water on Sonny's grand plan. But, there's no need for him to engage in immature games with Paul. He's said more than once that he doesn't want to hurt Sonny as he did before. Yet, he kissed Paul. And my intuition leads me to believe that won't be the end of it. This is the best they could come up with for a triangle which also happens to delay any flagrante delicto for awhile?! What a coincidence! Will returns from The Dead. Sonny dumps Paul. Sonny wants Will back. Will has amnesia. Will doesn't want Sonny back. Will is attracted to Paul. Paul was dumped by Sonny. Paul is being pursued by Will. Sonny resents Will's interest in Paul. Paul still loves Sonny. Paul is attracted to Will. Paul is friendly with Will. Sonny resents Paul. Will is drawn to Paul. There's no villain here or they're all villains. They've all made mistakes, some of which they repeated. Nothing screams machinations or ill intent. Yet. I just don't see how Paul can reciprocate Will's advances given that a) he's still in love with Sonny and was about to be his husband b) it would kill Sonny if he were betrayed like that again. The first time, it was only Will who erred. Paul didn't know who Will was to Sonny c) this would be a redux of the affair, in a manner of speaking, and it would make Paul and Will look like lascivious jerks. If Will and Paul kiss again, make out or sleep together then it'll mean Sonny doesn't factor much at all. For either to really entertain the thought of a fling would say a lot and none of it good. On the other hand, Will regaining his memory in 2.5 months while keep his distance from Paul and then reuniting with Sonny I boring to me. Is Sonny prepared for Will never remembering? Can he let go? Will is not acting exactly like his old self, amnesia notwithstanding. He's different. Sonny needs to accept it. He hasn't which is why he looks at Will with puppy dog eyes. If this is just going to be Paul/Will cheating 2.0 with Will eventually recovering his memory, kicking Paul to the curb and reuniting with Sonny then no thanks. That's unoriginal and knowing Days it would take forever (if Chandler is here for awhile). I can see Will being a snivelling mess and running to Sonny. And why should it all boil down a triangle?! When Will was struggling with his sexuality, it wasn't his scenes with Sonny that were my favorite. It was his scenes with Marlena. Let's see him try to re-acclimate to Salem and people he can't recognize. Let him visit with Chad and Abigail, reform those bonds. Why does everyone have their little niche and they never leave it? Will, Sonny, Gabi, Abigail and Chad are best friends. It would be nice to see that. The writers did Will dirty when they made him a newly outed man and then a newlywed cheater and then a murder victim. Let's not do him dirty again writers.

They're all definitely victims of poor writing, but Sonny did have video chats with Ari when he was away. I was pretty sure that there was a line about it so I looked for a clip. I remember it because I was so happy they were maintaining the fact that Sonny is Ari's dad. It's not the best quality, but here it is!

I know they mentioned it but it wasn't enough.
That is why many people commented on it so much while he was gone and even months after he returned. Sonny has flown on the Kiriakis private jet yet never managed to squeeze in a visit. Freddie was gone. But, they didn't actually need him. We don't see people doing a lot of everyday things but we assume they get done. It's lazy writing as Sonny demonstrated how much he loved Arianna and how devoted he was to her.
That's probably one of the reasons people resent him for using Arianna as a means to try to get through to Will. It rings hollow to many. On one hand, as a viewer, you get to know a character's values. OTOH, you can't really ignore what is transpiring on-screen because it doesn't jibe with what you expect or what's realistic.
Of all 3, I feel Paul is the recipient of better writing in terms of being true to character.
Will has been a jackass and jerk before. Sonny not so much LOL but I'm crossing my fingers and toes that I don't hate any of them in 6 months time. They're all making mistakes. I just don't want Will's amnesia to be a crutch and the excise he uses when he effs up.
One thing I'd really like to change is Will being a writer. I was never fond of the idea and it's always been boring. Even when he did those exposes, it was still boring. Nevermind the fact that the graphics they used look like a Paint job circa 1995 done by a 6 year old.
