I am more sympathetic to Peter, though. I think his lack of encouragement is more just a lack of screen time for Riley. In these episodes, Peter brings up Riley's sexuality a lot, just like he did in that short Riley bit from a few weeks ago. I think Peter is just in a different position than Marco's friends were. Riley is a far more angry guy. Frankly, with all of Riley's violent outbursts, I think the fact that Peter continues to force the issue is pretty impressive. I also don't think any of the characters are as well integrated as they used to be. Now when I watch the show, everyone seems separated into their groups for their storylines, and no one really interacts. I agree. In the newer seasons the characters are more separated. Everyone isn't around each other like everyone used to be. I think Peter has tried to be really supportive. I mean, Riley kissed him and Peter still tried to be his friend and get him to talk about his sexuality and that just landed Peter basically being thrown against the gym lockers and told to never talk about it again. Peter doesn't really bring it up, but, I think he's made it pretty clear to Riley that whenever he's ready to talk about he's there and he's not going anywhere.

The episode was MUCH better than expected. Of course I hoped they would focus on the gay aspect more than the closeting aspect. But well, I had read the spoilers so I knew we would get more of his closet issues. That said, I really liked the two episodes. They were good, both the writing and the acting. It was all very intense, and I liked all the drama. I'm glad he FINALLY told someone, and I'm glad the guy was Peter. Peter has been such a good friend to Riley all along The only major issue I have with the episode is that he didn't hook up with the lifeguard Seriously, Riley and the lifeguard would make such a hot and perfect couple! I really, really, really hope he comes back..

I never liked Peter. I know he can't force Riley to come out but he should be doing more to help him deal with it. What is he going to do then? Peter tried to help him last season but Riley wouldn't let him, so Peter figured it would be better to be there for him instead, just being a friend. You can't exactly force anyone to change, or deal with problems one migh have..

I thougt it was very well done, I liked these two episodes. I don't think there was anything Peter could have done for Riley, he had to come to that realisation himself. And then Peter was the first person (not counting the hot lifeguard) who he told. As for hooking up with that lifeguard, it wasn't time or place and he came to that club with somebody anyway. But maybe now he'll be willing for Riley to finish that lifeguard course and who knows. Riley looked interested at the beginning of the first episode ;D

So, I honestly love Degrassi.
I agree with you guys. The episode was done so much better than what I thought it would have been like. Riley is taking baby steps, and it's really great. Peter is a great friend in a way because he still hasn't blurted Riley's secret out, nor is he 'forcing' him to come out.
About the whole 'lifeguard' thing. I don't necessarily think it'll happen. I do have other bits of information on later episodes (which include riley) so if anyone's interested then p.m me, and I'll be glad to answer :]

I was wondering who that hot guy playing Sam was, I saw that someone on Youtube wrote that his name is Wesley Morgan, just in case anyone wants to know. There's not a lot of info on him, there's a small bio on IMdB, and there's some pics out there from him modelling. He's a model/actor.
He's not on any social networking sites (IE MySpace, Twitter, Facebook), I checked. lol.

I also don't think any of the characters are as well integrated as they used to be. Now when I watch the show, everyone seems separated into their groups for their storylines, and no one really interacts. I agree. In the newer seasons the characters are more separated. I've been watching Degrassi: The Next Generation since season 1 and I can definitely say that in the beginning there was a LOT of separation between the characters. The younger kids (Emma, Manny, Liberty, JT, Toby, Sean) rarely had storylines that involved the older kids (Ashley, Paige, Terri, Spinner, Jimmy). As the seasons progressed the characters gradually became much more integrated. I think given time, the new set of characters will eventually become less separated by grade level as well. I watched Riley's episodes last night and, boy, he was on a roller coaster! Throwing himself at girls, punching people, drinking, etc. I'm glad he was at least finally able to admit that he's gay, and that he decided to get some help for his anger issues. But that whole "I'm not coming out in high school" thing... I hope that doesn't last, because then he really will be put on the back burner. While everyone else is off gallivanting around and hooking up, he'll end up being the lonely celibate...or caught up in a clandestine affair, which would be better than nothing, I guess, but not as good as being open and out about the relationship.

Just did a quick skim through of the latest two episodes (Episodes 909 and 910) and no Riley. Disappointing, but not surprising at all. That's just how Degrassi goes.

I doubt he will show up for a while, at least not with a storyline about his sexuality.... Since he made his decision to keep his sexuality hidden, I think the show will probably keep it that way for the next little while... And after some time, they can revisit the issue with him being fed up with being closeted.

Okay, so I need to thank messyme for bringing this story to my attention. Rumours of my catching up on seasons 8 and 9 (thus far) of D:TNG this weekend, may or may not be exaggerated. I really like how this story is playing out compared to others we have seen over the years. It’s not a slow realization or simple denial, but more serious self-hatred. It’s more than “I don’t want to be this way” and more “I’m not normal” and “I can’t be this way.” He knew he had feelings for guys from Man With Two Hearts and everything we've seen since are his attempts to fight that. There’s certainly something going on at home that we’ll probably never see, but some of his lines in Bad Medicine hint strongly towards that. I also really like the decision to not come out in high school. It rings true to my experience where it was a lot easier starting fresh and coming out to new friends in university than to old ones in high school. I have to agree that Sam and Riley would make a cute (and hot!) couple; however, Riley did punch Sam and moving them into a relationship just seems like it would condone that behaviour somehow. That said, Sam did have a way of calming and getting through to Riley and Riley certainly thought Sam was cute. Maybe a friendship where Sam helps Riley cope is more likely. This was posted on TeenNick.com. It’s spoilerish, so I will hide the brief summary. Argy talks about the wrap party for season 9 (I guess they're done filming) and says that Riley still has some story coming up and it will be happier but that season 9 is it for him.

Thanks for that spoiler, mikey! It's good to know there's still some Riley to hopefully look forward to this season.
I just did a REALLY quick skim through of the latest two episodes, and didn't spot any Riley. Marco was back, however, for the first one. It looks like he is a teacher at Degrassi now. I don't think there was anything related to his sexuality, but I'll go back and actually watch the episode later to be sure, and report back.

I watched the original Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High when I was a teenager and I've always loved that many of the original kids like Spike and Snake were teachers or were present as adults on Degrassi TNG.
I was believable and added continuity.
I really hope that Adamo can find a regular role as a teacher or TA or whatever.
He would bring some more historical background to the current season and he's just wonderful on screen.

Mikey: Thanks for the spoiler! I'm glad we get to see a little bit more of Riley this season, even if it's just for an episode or two..
tubedout: Thanks for the tip about Adamo! I'm glad he's back. He was my favorite from the group of original characters.

It's been a while since the last episode is the season finished? And if so when is the next season? I can't wait to watch more Sam is cool and it was kinda funny/cute way for Riley to come out to Peter.

Actually Riely come out to Peter at the beginning of Season 8 by kissing him. But then for the rest of the season 8, Riley was trying to deny he was gay and Peter mostly didn't push him about it until Riley met up with a boy in the woods he'd dated at summer camp and it upset him so much he started taking steroids then he got into a fight and almost got kicked off the football team (all in Season 8) He and Peter talked about Riley being gay back then again but Riley didn't want to deal.
So Peter has known for over a year that Riley is gay but he didn't want to push Riley into talking about it until he was ready to bring it up again.
Now in season 9, I think we might actually see Riley deal with it (but later in the season in the Spring 2010)

Thanks for the quick review, HQ75. I do really agree with mikey that Riley and Sam are cute couple on S09E07-08!! This two episodes are really good! Hope we'll see them together in 2010.
