This season looks interesting... more in line with the "Viva a Diferença" season.
I read that Guga will be a freshmen in college. That's cool that they are expanding the characters beyond high school. Also, having Serginho as Guga's love interest will probably bring aspects of race and socioeconomic inequality into their storyline (considering Guga is described as someone from a wealthy origin)

Santi looks great on those white pants... wish he could wear them more often LOL I don't know, it covers too much of him - why didn't he get a scene on the beach with the other teens in nothing but Speedos?

I think Aristemo look super cute together and I'm looking forward to seeing them again on this new show.
Considering it won't be a regular telenovela, I would love to see them toning down a bit on the acting. I felt like some of the acting in the #Aristemo storyline was so "hyper-dramatic" (for no reason other than that being a mexican telenovela cliché) that it took me out of some important scenes/situations.

It's the same show, but Santiago wasn’t a protagonist. His character was added halfway through the season and was mostly a supporting character. What this past season did differently was that they would bring focus to a different character every 15 days, so they were able to create a lot of storylines using the whole cast, including all the supporting charterers. The new season will have a group of "friends" as protagonists, and one of those main characters will be Guga, who's gay The way the trailer for next season is structured, with Guga depicted last, makes me think his airtime won't end up being all that different from Michael/Santiago in the past season. Although this past season we saw them rotate the characters through their own mini-story arcs, there was still a clear hierarchy of characters with two major couples dominating. I don't think Guga and his boyfriend will be featured nearly as much as those main couples were this past season. But I guess we'll see next week. I can't really comment on airtime before the show has even started, but simply the fact that Guga's two storylines (the one with the other 5 protagonists and his own with Serginho) are being introduced in the beginning of the season (and not halfway through like Santiel) already shows they are treating the character differently. Another interesting detail is that Guga is one of the few roles this season with parents as regular characters on the show (and not guests like in the Santiel storyline). One good thing about Santiel and the past season was that, with the way they presented the show and their mini-arcs, both Michael and Santiago got some strong weeks with a lot of scenes/action... I'm sure with Guga and this season, things will be more spread out throughout the whole thing.

Isn't this the same show that just had a gay football player as a protagonist? Santiago? He has his own lead storyline. Or is this a different show with the same title? I know each season has a different subtitle but it is the same show no? It's the same show, but Santiago wasn’t a protagonist. His character was added halfway through the season and was mostly a supporting character. Sophia BP has added subtitles to Part 59 as well
I loved the scene between Santiago and his dad. I'm glad something good was able to come out of this terrible experience for him.
The little song his dad sang while they were hugging was a nice touch to the scene... it was really sweet and emotional. The whole scene was very simple but effective.

"Alma and Coração" is a Portuguese telenovela currently being broadcast by SIC Network since September 2018. One of the plots centers around João (Renato Godinho), a plastic surgeon who hides his homosexuality from his family. After a troubled marriage with a woman, he falls madly in love with Nelson (Vitor Silva Costa), a police officer, who because of his profession refuses to go public about a homosexual relationship.

I'm glad to see Santiago finding the courage to tell someone about the abuse he's being going through. I went through a very similar (but less extreme) situation with a swimming coach when I was a teen and didn't have the same courage as Santiago. You definitely feel paralyzed and being young makes it all harder. At the time I was also in closet, so I was extra afraid the situation would bring focus to my sexuality. My solution was simply to leave and never come back. I loved swimming and had to give it up fortunately Hopefully the show can send a message to all kids and teens going through the same thing!

Okay, so they actually kissed today - twice. I was starting to think it would just be a fade to black as their lips are about to meet. LOL I though of the same thing As someone from Latin America myself and being very familiar with the culture over here, I know gay kisses on primetime televion are still a big taboo, BUT something bothered me a bit was the way they handled the whole Aristemo kiss. It wasn't like they were afraid of a backlash or something like that (which I guess is fair), but instead, the way they kept teasing the scene, it became clear they were just milking the anticipation for the ratings, which was a bit tacky and off-putting. Having said that, I'm glad they did show the scene after all. The boys look cute together and I'm sure it will have a very positive impact on the Mexican LGBTQ+ youth (which is what really matters in the end)

POOR SANTI... when he does that sad puppy face, my heart dies a little lol I gotta say though, Michael has been quite selfish throughout this whole thing with Santiago’s dad... I mean... I get that it must be frustrating for him, but coming out is just so much bigger than that. It’s a milestone to anyone in the LGBTQ community, and you shouldn’t do it if you’re not ready yet. I completely agree: Giovanni Dopico has very soulful eyes. It's hard to imagine anyone would want to be mean to his Santiago, much less his own dad. Do we know where Santi's mother is - and does he have any siblings? Like Michael seems to be the only child of a single mum. It's one heck of a coincidence if Santi is also the only child of a single parent. I could see the dad kicking him out because he doesn't want Santi to lead his younger brother(s) astray, but there's no such information so far in the subtitled clips. I'm not against gay characters being portrayed as flawed, so I'm okay with Michael being unsympathetic to Santi's plight. Michael has always been a drama queen, so to be all "me, me, me" is consistent with his characterization. It's not like their entire relationship is playing out in the closet; everyone else seems to know and they're together in public, it's only Santi's dad who Santi doesn't want to tell - and with good reason; now he's been kicked out of his home. Relationships are about compromise; if this is one compromise Michael can't accommodate, then he should just break up with Santi, instead of leaving him to be kicked out of his home and tortured by a homophobic soccer coach. Santi is such a sweet and kind boy... it so easy to root (and fall) for him. I don’t think Santi has ever mentioned siblings. He has mentioned his mom once though, but it doesn’t seem like she’s much of presence in his life. His dad has always been the one mentions as his main influence, so I guess that’s why they’re focusing on him. I have to say that I actually like the way they are not portraying his had a the one-dimensional homophobic jerk. From their scenes together, you could definitely see his dad is hurt by the whole thing and is battling a big monster inside of him... he’s not in peace with his actions at all. Not to say that what he did to his own son isn’t terrible, but you could see his actions coming from a lot of different places rather than just being a stereotypical homophobe. It’s easy to see from his tears that loves his son and will come around once he has proper time to deconstruct that wall built by many years of institutionalized homophobia that has been around him his whole life. I also agree with you about Michael. He has many qualities and flaws and that’s great actually. For the longest time, telenovelas here would only feature characters like Michael (the effeminate gay man) as the comic relief... they would have no deph whatsoever as well as being treated as “asexual” beings (as there would never be any love interests for their characters). That has been slowly changing in the past 15 years, and I think Michael is a great step forward. I wasn't criticizing him for being flawed. As you mentioned, his actions have been pretty consistent to his character’s development throughout the story. I was just pointing out how the “pressure” to come out can be detrimental... in Santi’s case it definitely was.

I was actually not excepting a kiss at all in the Aristemo storyline (just like wasn't in the Santiel storyline in Malhação), so I'm excited it's happening before the show ends... that's SO important for kids see them represented on such a big platform such as primetime TV, even if it's still not perfect. Actually Santiel did kiss on Malhação - but it was only the one time. I know, that's what I meant. I wasn't expecting an Aristemo kiss and it looks like it's happening (just like I wasn't expecting in the Santiel storyline and it happened). In the Santiel storyline I was even more surprised they didn't wait until the end of the season to show a kiss, and even though they haven't aired any kisses since then, the characters still show a considerable amount of PDA that makes it clear they are boyfriends, which has been quite surprising to me considering the show always hesitated so much in portraying gay characters in any major storyline.

They did, and I actually think the show being doomed helped then cross those lines. They didn’t have anything to lose at this point. The show also tried to emulate ELITE very badly. As much as I liked that they showed the kisses, the storyline development was really bad. MMTMF has no kisses, but they were able to really create a compelling storyline that got the Mexican people rooting for the gay characters. In a perfect world, both things - story and PDA - would be just as present, but in Latin America, where “baby steps” are taking a little longer than it should, I think I’ll take a better narrative over just kisses. Hopefully things can evolve and we get both You raise a good point (that they had nothing to lose) - plus the actors in this are over 18 so that could also be a factor. I'm not discounting the significant progress MMTMF has made: normalizing gay kids and same-sex romance for Mexican families is a really crucial step towards societal acceptance. The storytelling approach, getting fans invested in each character as individuals and then as a couple, was right for them. The thing that really got my goat was how casually MMTMF threw in Ari being kissed by a girl he barely knew. That cheapened the moment for me - after all the drama about Ari never feeling anything for anyone of either gender until Temo came along, they should've reserved Ari's first kiss for the boy who helped him discover love. And hey, it looks like next week we will finally get a kiss. I totally get your sentiment... I don't like it either and, unfortunately, they do that a lot in gay storylines in Latin America. I was actually surprised they didn't have Santiago kissing any of the girls in Malhação this season. I think that the depiction of 'gay youth' being still a "new" territory on TV in Latin America, we'll still get those bumps along the way, but I'm glad to see things evolving. I was actually not excepting a kiss at all in the Aristemo storyline (just like wasn't in the Santiel storyline in Malhação), so I'm excited it's happening before the show ends... that's SO important for kids see them represented on such a big platform such as primetime TV, even if it's still not perfect.

I actually didn’t even know the show was still on the air. It was a HUGE flop... after Univision dropped the show completely in the US and Las Estrellas in Mexico moved it from its original time-slot in the primetime to a timeslot they would normally show re-runs, I figured the show would propably get cancelled soon. I cant really see this one going very far unfortunaly... the first season will be the only season at this point You are right, I just read that there won't be another season due to low ratings. A pity because they actually beat MMTMF to a gay kiss. They did, and I actually think the show being doomed helped then cross those lines. They didn’t have anything to lose at this point. The show also tried to emulate ELITE very badly. As much as I liked that they showed the kisses, the storyline development was really bad. Also, here's a nice little article featuring Giovanni Dopico (who plays Santiago) Giovanni Dopico reveals emotion after scene with
Jackson Antunes: 'Very generous'
Actor of 'Malhação: Brazilian Lives' talks about scene when his father discovers Santiago's sexuality and reveals an episode of prejudice: 'My mother cried'.
Giovanni Dopico began his TV career just four months ago, but with so little time, he has faced a lot of challenges. On air in 'Brazilian Lives' as Santiago, a gay teenager who has the dream of being a soccer player, the actor had to put himself in the shoes of many young gay people to play the character.
"Santiago discovered his sexuality throughout the story and it has been great putting myself in the place of someone living in a universe so different from mine," says the 23-year-old actor, who was surprised by the public's reaction.
"The fans are very fond of him and #Santiel (the couple formed by Santiago and Michael, portrayed by the actor Pedro Vinícius) and I get a lot of messages. The vast majority is very positive," says the actor.
With the character, Giovanni had the opportunity to star in the first gay male kiss of the show and think about bigger issues regarding prejudice.
"I was talking to Pedro (Vinícius) one of these days, and he told me that sometimes he feels afraid of going out on the street. There's still a lot of prejudice and that is something very serious."
Having people close to him talking about how "unfortunate" that he's playing a gay role, is one of the cases of prejudice he has faced, but nothing compares to the day his mother came home very sad.
"She didn't want to say anything, but then she started crying a lot. She was in a mall when she heard very aggressive comments about my character and the gay kiss on the plot. It really hit her"
All the negative facts, however, he used in his favor. Giovanni says that he puts that energy into the construction of the character and his effort has been working. With much praise by the public and the fans, Giovanni was very moved by recent scenes, especially the revealing of Santiago's sexuality to his father, portrayed by the actor Jackson Antunes.
"I couldn't have had a better colleague on that scene, Jackson is very generous, we really connected in that moment. As soon as we finished shooting, the emotion was so strong, he came to hug me and I cried a lot thinking about what Santiago was going through"
During the next fortnight, his character will still go through a lot of emotions. Approved in a new soccer team, Santi will have to face now harassment from his own coach, Bryan. For those who think that rookies on TV don't face much challenges, Giovanni is here to prove otherwise.

so is this girl tying to get with Santiago? No, not at all. She actually likes a different character (Peixe, the other boy who’s talking to her after the party).. She’s kind of a “villain” character on the show and everybody hates her, but Santi feels bad for her. She’ll be soon “stabbing” Santi on the back when all he did was being nice to her... she’s a snake

Veteran actor Jackson Antunes will play Santiago's dad. That's exciting... he's really good! I'm actually surprised they cast a big actor for the role as they usually go for unknown actors or actors with a lower profile for this guest appearances on Malhação. I guess his dad will have a major role than most parents on the show. Here's a picture of them...
