I welcome the casting of a gay character of colour. But I do wonder: Was it a conscious decision on the show's part to give this character such a tangential link to a core family, the Kennedys? Now obviously, the actor isn't white, so the audience wouldn't have bought him as, say, the biological son of Scott and Charlene. But he could easily pass as biracial, so why not make him the son of someone more important than the unseen brother of Susan's late husband to whom she was married for (literally) a few hours?
Making Nate a Kinski, when that family had a negligible presence on the show even before they were completely written out, was a poor decision. Heck, Nate could have been Scott and Charlene's adopted son, a brother to Daniel, and the audience would have had more connection to him than a character with no real ties to the canvas. Chris suffers the same problem, so their pairing is ultimately inconsequential in the larger scheme of things. A gay Ramsay or Robinson would have been a much stronger sign of the show's commitment to gay storytelling.

Susan struggles to decide whether or not to continue counselling Nate.Spoilers Courtesy of Southern Cross Media and The Perfect Blend. This isn't specifically related to the boys, but Toadie is going to start receiving letters about Sonya, claiming that she isn't who she seems to be. Eventually, 'Mark starts to think the worst of Chris Pappas' mother Patricia. Patricia isn't happy with the Rebecchis due to Toadie's decision to represent Josh Willis in court following his attack on Chris, but the mystery continues as there is still no firm evidence linking her to the poison pen letters'.
This is edited down from the Digital Spy article: www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s14/neighbours/news/a603008/neighbours-sonya-rebecchi-to-become-hate-mail-target.html#~oSy3AMDN1W5TUDIn response to justinate, I think that the main reason they had Nate linked in such an obscure way is because they wanted him to be related to the Kennedy's somehow, since this year marks 20 years since their arrival. And if they had passed Nate off as a Kennedy, I don't think anyone would have bought that because we already know all there is to know about them. At least having a link through the Kinski's, who we don't know a significant amount about (Alex, Rachel, Zeke and Katya are the only Kinski's that have been introduced before now), so their family tree is technically incomplete and flexible. Yes, I agree that having him as Alex's nephew is a bit far-fetched, and hardly a legitimate relation to Susan, but his family history and his reasons for visiting the Kennedy's in the first place have been explained, so I think it can be overlooked. Also, in response to Difficult Diva's question about any character that has been in Hospital more times than Chris, I've actually figured one out. Bridget Parker (I can't believe it's taken me this long to realise, since she used to be one of my favourite characters) who was on the show between 2007 and 2009 was hospitalised far more than Chris was, in half the time. For instance, off the top of my head I know she was hit by a car driven by Susan and ended up paralysed down the right side of her body, she went to an illegal dance rave where the roof collapsed, she passed out upon finding out that she was pregnant, then later found out that the father of her child had cheated on her, then passed out again. She was in rafting accident and went missing briefly (she was taken to hospital but was ok), she gave birth to her baby and was taken to Hospital later on, then about a month later her family was in a car accident and she died in Hospital due to a blot clot on the brain. So yeah, she was only hospitalised a few times.

Are we missing a few vids? Yes- we're missing two weeks' worth (so two vids). Dailymotion does have the episodes themselves, obviously not cut down to the relevant Chris/Nate parts. Here's the link to Marit K's videos: www.dailymotion.com/maritk1Chris and Nate actually appear in a lot of episodes over the fortnight: 6976, 6977, 6978, 6979, 6983, 6984 and 6986. Hope this helps those who only watch via Anthony's clips.

While racing him to hospital, Brennan (Scott McGregor) agrees to lie about the accident. Josh doesn't want anybody knowing he was trying to help Chris. But keeping secrets is tough. After Chris and Nate's (Meyne Wyatt) lack of sympathy towards Josh, Brennan lets slip with the truth.

Thanks Anthony!
Josh facing court for assaulting Chris has been very well done. It's rare that we get to see the story from both sides: perpetrator and victim. What Josh did was terrible - especially the way the judge phrased it, that he went back intentionally to attack Chris and left him for dead - but he showed genuine remorse with a depth many soaps haven't succeeded in portraying. (I never thought much of Harley Bonner as an actor before this, so his moving portrayal of a sincerely tortured teenager was a revelation, too.)
Of course, Josh should have gotten some jail time - how on earth could the judge denounce him so heavily before handing out a community service sentence? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Chris was the bigger man and asked for leniency, but the sudden shift from "I want him to fry!" to "I don't want him to face any jail time" was a bit much. I guess we have Patricia to fly the grudge flag.
I'm also glad we got a sweet moment of Chris and Nate cuddling on the hospital bed. It wasn't a love scene, but a gay couple spooning in bed is another small step forward for the Aussie soaps! Maybe there's hope yet that they'll get to that love scene within my lifetime!
(Sidenote: Harley Bonner is dating Ariel Kaplan who plays his twin sister?!)

Spoilers Courtesy of The Perfect Blend And justinate, I completely agree with you. Though I wasn’t surprised that Josh didn’t get jail time (there was no indication of the actor leaving, in fact quite the opposite), I was surprised by Chris’ reason for amending his statement. I thought that when he saw Josh and Doug playing cricket it made him realise that by sending Josh to prison, he would be putting the Willises through hell. After all, in his speech at the Community Centre, Chris spoke about how the situation was affecting Josh’s loved ones; plus, Chris knows better than most how it feels to have someone you care about being sent to prison, so I would have imagined that Chris did it for Josh’s family rather than for Josh. However, I am glad that he mentioned and appreciated Josh’s attempts to atone for his mistake (the food packages, helping at the garage, setting up the fund and donating everything he had to it). However, in response to your last sentence: don’t get your hopes up. The closest this show has ever gotten to a ‘love scene’ is the recent scenes between Kyle and Georgia during their ‘honeymoon phase’, and that wasn’t exactly explicit stuff. Also, bear in mind that this is a G rated programme, so those bed scenes between Chris and Nate were actually pushing the boundaries quite a bit - I’m not surprised (though I am disappointed) that they didn’t kiss after the declarations of love; I reckon that would have been pushing it a bit too far. You’re right though, those scenes really showed some great progress in terms of Australian soaps, and hopefully it will keep improving. I actually really enjoyed the scenes themselves, particularly the first bed one, with the flirtatious, implicit dialogue (about getting “over excited” and having cold hands) and the interactions between them; it’s probably the best scene concerning the relationship so far, despite nothing significant happening during it. It’ll be interesting to see where the storyline goes from here. I hope they don’t completely drop it, particularly in Josh’s case. I’m sure they’ll keep referring to Chris’ injuries (plus, I hope we find out about Chris’ test results - whether or not he has epilepsy*, which wasn’t revealed- and I hope the situation revolving around his apprenticeship is explored), but I am concerned that they’ll have Josh involved in a completely different storyline (such as something to do with Amber, which is where it seems to be heading) and have this whole ordeal disregarded. Even if they offhandedly mention that he’s doing his community service, or if there are some uneasy glances between Josh and Chris in the street, that will at least be enough to show that they haven’t just forgotten about it. Just some random thoughts about these past few weeks: throughout this storyline, I couldn’t help but think that if this show was more like Hollyoaks, it probably would have been revealed that the main reason behind Josh’s remorse for punching Chris is because he’s been harbouring romantic feelings for him (Harley certainly knows how to convey those kinds of emotions through some of his looks and facial expressions), but I’m so relieved that that wasn’t the case, and that it was simply Josh’s guilt towards assaulting a neighbour. And – on a similar topic – I kept thinking that it would have been interesting if Nate and Josh had bonded through their anger issues, since it would cause a conflict between Nate and Chris. Plus, Nate and Josh don’t really seem to have any proper friends, and they are quite similar in some respects, so a friendship between them wouldn’t be too far-fetched. Also, am I the only one who thought it was a tad creepy that Nate let himself into number 26 first thing in the morning and made Chris breakfast because he couldn’t sleep? It’s sweet, but a little strange. Besides, since he and Chris had supposedly ‘grown closer’ after Chris’ setback, I would have imagined that Nate would have ‘stayed over’ rather than sleeping at number 28; unless that’s an indication that Nate’s struggling with his nightmares since he fired Susan. On that note, it seems that Anthony was right in his column regarding Nate having a ‘bad turn’, as the Digital Spy article suggests. *Actually, if it turned out that Chris did have epilepsy because of this, then wouldn’t that have changed the outcome of the trial? Surely they should have waited until the results came back before holding the court hearing so that they knew exactly what they were dealing with. Unless he was cleared of epilepsy and it just wasn’t mentioned on screen, which would have been a huge mistake.

Here are the Chris and Nate related spoilers for upcoming episodes (highlight below to read): Monday 24th November 2014 - 7021
Nate confesses the truth behind his disturbing behaviour
Apparently Patricia isn't behind the letters about Sonya, so I don't think those spoilers are relevant anymore.Spoilers Courtesy of Southern Cross Media
Actually, there are a couple of small pieces of news that might be of interest (highlight to read): According to The Perfect Blend, Lucy will be returning in March, supposedly to coincide with the show’s 30th anniversary, so we might find out Chris’ decision about the baby offer – though that’s probably one of the last things on his mind, what with the coward punch and Nate’s strange behaviour to deal with. In other news (I’m not sure if this concerns Chris, but with his job at Fitzgerald Motors hanging by a thread, it might be relevant) Travis Burns has been cast as Tyler Brennan – Mark Brennan’s younger brother (and good casting too, there’s a great likeness between them: both are hot!) – who is apparently a mechanic. What this will mean for Chris’ job, I’m not sure, but it may affect him. Here’s a link to the Digital Spy article: www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s14/neighbours/news/a607410/neighbours-travis-burns-cast-as-mark-brennans-younger-brother-tyler.html

Here are the Chris and Nate related spoilers for the final fortnight of 2014 (the week commencing 1st December is the season finale week in Australia and it will take a 4 week break over Christmas). Highlight below to read:
Monday 24th November 2014 - 7021
Chris is surprised to learn of Nate's recent behaviour.
Tuesday 2nd December 2014 - 7027
Naomi gives Chris and Nate bad romantic advice.
Spoilers Courtesy of The Perfect Blend and Southern Cross Media.
What’s interesting is that the climax of the coward punch storyline has just aired in the UK, and it’s caused a lot of debate online, with different reactions to the resolution. Many people are glad that Chris changed his statement to save Josh from prison (because Josh has been completely redeemed over the past few months and people wanted him to have a second chance) and actually found it easier to be sympathetic towards Josh than Chris. My opinion received quite a lot of backlash (though some other users agreed to some extent). I argued that the main issue I had is that since the accident, Chris has made it clear that he will never forgive Josh for what he did (which I reckon is fair), so Chris standing up in court claiming that he 'doesn't want Josh to go to jail' seems pretty contradictory. Additionally, Chris has acquired a brain injury and has lost the ability to move his right hand, plus his job is about to be taken away from him (though disabilities like that don't usually last long in soap operas), so Josh's guilt and his sentence of 300 hours of community service does not equate to that in any way. Plus, at the beginning of the storyline, it was emphasised about the impact that a coward-punch can have (there was even a scene with Josh researching it), yet the resolution seemed to have completely disregarded that. Basically they're saying that if you feel remorseful and try to do your bit to help the victim (and infuriating them in the process) then you can get off with a 'slap on the wrist', which is the wrong message to send out. I know that Harley wasn't leaving, but it would have been more effective if the actor who played the perpetrator was, then they could write them out via prison. I actually took Patricia's side in that argument - Chris helped Josh get away with almost killing him and pretty much destroying his entire life and future. Yes, Chris was being 'the bigger person', but he shouldn't have.
It would be interesting to see what people on here thought about it, I know some people are annoyed by Josh being saved and for Chris appearing as a doormat, but it would be nice to have a different perspective on it.

For the final time this year, here are the Chris and Nate related spoilers for the season finale week (highlight below to read):
Tuesday 2nd December 2014 - 7027
Chris and Nate struggle with gift giving.
Spoilers Courtesy of The Perfect Blend
Wow, those returnees are fantastic! A great range of characters from the show’s distant and more recent past – how they will intertwine with each other, I have no idea, but I’m looking forward to it – and it’s inevitable that Lucy and Lucas will interact with Chris at some point, obviously the baby storyline and the whole situation with Chris’ job need sorting.
Actually, I do have something to say about last week’s episodes (highlight to read): I really enjoyed both Monday and Friday’s episode (I wasn’t expecting them to appear on Friday, so it was a pleasant surprise. And any interaction that they have with Karl and Susan is definitely a good thing – they all bounce off each other so well), there was a great contrast between the poignant and the humorous: Chris finally finding out about Nate’s ordeal versus the axolotl plot. And as much as I still believe that Chris and Nate are not ‘in love’, I have to admit that the scene where they reiterated it was far better than the first time that they said it (not least because there was a kiss): because the dialogue was far more meaningful and there was more emotion – I loved the moment where Nate said that he didn’t feel as though he deserved Chris’ support; it was really touching – it’s funny how it takes this show a couple of attempts to get these moments right, but when they do, it’s worth it. However, I was a tad annoyed at the pacing: Chris and Nate’s appearance on Friday picked up only a few hours after where Monday’s finished: why such a large gap for such a short amount of time? I guess I shouldn’t dwell on it.
