What is interesting to me is that Christian is so clear as to what Rob wants from Olli. He knows it without equivocation. He sees with a clarity that borders on obsession Olli’s own contribution/participation or lack thereof to the problems they are having, because Olli hasn’t set boundaries with Rob. Yet he can’t or doesn’t (I‘m not sure which) turn that same uncensored vision back on to himself. That is until he saw the picture of himself kissing Rebecca and how passionate it looked. And the look of utter devastation on Olli’s face at having seen them kissing. (Let’s just put this into perspective for a second. It’s one thing to be told Christian kissed Miriam and Rebecca and be told both kisses meant nothing that it was stupid and he wasn’t thinking. Not having seen either kiss it’s easy well, easier to forgive and get over as an aberration or at least to convince yourself it is. But to see it and the passion that went into it is something else completely. Any questions Olli might have had whispering softly in the back of his head started screaming at him, hence the nightmare and his shirt covered in sweat.) Until that moment Christian didn’t realize or understand why Olli was so angry and more importantly so unbelievably hurt. He didn’t mean the kiss in the same way it looked. To his mind (albeit an intoxicated one) he saw it as him showing Olli what it felt like to have the person you love ignore you and flirt with someone else.
The problem is Olli may have been flirting with Rob (although I‘m not sure he would see it that way but I‘ll get to that) he even may have come near the line, but he didn’t cross it. Christian on the other hand not only crossed it but he left is so far behind him it wasn’t even a speck on the horizon. Then he defends himself by saying he was provoked. When this doesn’t calm Olli’s anger he gets defensive and says it would be fine if you’d get over it, it was a joke.
Olli is to blame because he either doesn’t know, or doesn’t see that what he does could be seen by someone, (in this case a very jealous Christian) as flirting. He’s told Rob, he’s told Christian and more importantly he’s told himself that there can be and will never be anything between him and Rob. To him that should be enough. To Olli Christian’s jealousy is unfounded at least when it comes to him. In that yes Rob wants him but as he told Christian yesterday, it doesn’t matter what Rob thinks, feels or how he sees things. He doesn’t see, think or feel the same way as Rob does. Again to Olli that should be the end of the conversation. Because again like Christian, he’s only seeing it from where he stands. He’s not asking why Christian is so jealous. Especially given that he’s told Christian Rob has zero shot with him.
I think it has to do with the fact that as someone else said on this board. All of Olli’s past love relationships have been with men. And men he’s found to be a challenge to him in some way. And Rob is nothing if he’s not a challenge. Let’s face it when Rebecca kissed Olli, Christian was ticked for all of a hot second then got over it. It never would occur to him that Olli would ever have serious romantic feeling for a woman. But a man? I think Christian is afraid no terrified of losing Olli to another man, because where does that leave him?
I mean come on Christian went from living with Coco to being in a serious relationship with Olli, not just serious but living together. They were once they got together an instant couple. The same growing pains most couples go through before they moved in together was not present for Christian and Olli. It went from I don’t like to you, to I like to you , to sleeping together, to I love you, to living together, in rapid succession. Without a breath in-between even.
For them to have issues was inevitable, for it to have taken this long into the relationship to start questioning certain things and displaying certain behaviors, is what to me has always been a bit implausible.
