God, watching with subs is so much worse. YES YOU SHOULD TRY, DON'T GIVE UP NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Hem, please excuse me, I'm feeling quite emotional after this Chrolli trauma.
And I get why Olli is having trust issues, I think anyone would if their partner kissed someone else, especially if it was the second time with the same person. However, I agree with you lyra85, he hasn't really trusted Christian in months, so why are things only different now? He gave up his trust in Christian when he chose to believe Ropp months ago, and he demonstrated that clearly when he immediately blamed Christian for the drug raid. Plus I feel like Olli's kiss with Ropp has kind of been forgotten. Olli acts as if Christian's jealously in unfounded, but he needs to remember it is built on the knowledge that Olli did, on one occasion, respond to Ropp's flirtation.

OMFG. Olli: Ever since I started working with Rob, everything has become so... messed up. Uhhhhh... DO I HAVE TO DRAW YOU A DIAGRAM?!?!?!?!?!?! Write it down. Read it back. Memorize it. Have t-shirts made. Ask others what it could possibly mean. And Olli... bitte, you can't trust Christian.... are you kidding me? Tell me, because I'm curious, what exactly did Christian say when you told him that Rob disrobed in y'alls kitchen and did a little dance for you??? No, I'm serious. What did he say when you told him? *crickets* Yeah, that's what I thought.

Precisely, Ivan. IMO that is one of the (several) weaknesses of this SL. It's hard to believe that Rob is really indispensable to the kind of success Olli wants. No more so than Wolle G was to Christian's (worth considering inasmuch as the writers are making parallels to C&O's original SL). I guess the difference is that whereas both C&O were very aware of Wolle's seriously unscrupulous nature, only Christian discerns the real Rob. And however, this is, I think, the key to the interpretation of Christian's conduct now. The episode begins with Olli reaffirming his pleasure in his and Rob's continuing collaboration -- in Christian's hearing. And Christian knows that things can't really be right between him and Olli until Rob is 'out of picture'. Everything flows from this -- given how long this has been going on and so how frustrated Christian has become. And by now he is quite bewildered, afraid -- even desperate -- and his behavior has become erratic. Because, I think, the sequence of fighting / making up has, in a sense, become as implausible / unsatisfying to him as it is to us. I, personally, wish he would just break down (but I'm a sucker for this kind of thing, especially in someone who isn't given to such), just confess to Olli that he's lost, scared (after all, in an important sense, Olli's all he has left now), and just doesn't know how to proceed. So maybe tomorrow he will . . . or maybe not. Oh, and incidentally, I don't think the "chemistry" between the two actors has faded at all. The latest VLOG ("Problem gebannt) shows it at its delightfullest! I really like your above posts. *** Watched the subbed version, and I gotta say, there is no fault on the part of Thore and Jo. They both acted the hell out of it. And, it spoke volumes. Olli's fear of Christian's bisexuality leaning now more towards heterosexuality - was palpable. Olli broke my heart through the vid, and Christian killed it, with one final shot. The last few seconds, his face - his heart breaking. So, I do see the chemistry between the characters - still! (woot!) Today's episode was refreshing because they actually TALKED! And, so much more were spoken by the emotions. Both actors are working the hell out of the script, and if not for them, these new Olli & Christian would be unrecognizable to me. It's cuz of Jo and Thore, and having stayed the course with the characters themselves, from inception 'til now - have still tried to allow the essence of each character to find a way into this whack new script. So, props for that. Side note: I'm sure, to each actor, it's like a really good buddy that they're always rooting for - for Jo, Olli, for Thore, Christian. And, that comes through, a lot. In Christian's face in the last shot, I read, "Oh God, no! After all this, this is where we stand? He wants it to end, after all this?!! Us?" Olli's tear-filled eyes, hopelessness, his fear that there's no way he can compete with that, if it's truly real. ( that being women). I like this aspect of their SL a lot actually. Just as sexuality isn't black and white, neither are the issues surrounding sexuality. And, Olli has lost sight of them as a relationship, like Christian, for a while now....so he forgets that what Christian is saying is true. They haven't truly kept sight of them as "us" (of late) and it has become you vs. me. That's when relationships get hairy. Christian says, emphathically, "I'm into you and no one else." Christian is hopelessly Ollisexual, as others have said before. For a lack of simpler explanations, we have seen NO INCLINATION of Christian's attraction to other men, other than Olli. And, through Olli, commenting on other men as good-lucking [ and hitting on you!! /Exits Jealous Christian, stage left]. And, if he ever makes a "move" outside of Olli - usually in the setting of copious amounts of alcohol - it has been women. So, Olli's fears, although not rational, is not completely without base. And, I think "Rob" in Olli's life, to Christian is a real fear too. Olli is all he has got, at this point, and he knows that Olli likes "fun, excitement, novelty" - and Christian may wonder if he has lost that charm, in Olli's eyes. That he doesn't just become "one of the [many? perhaps, he thinks?] men" in Olli's life. For him, Olli was [still is] his first in many a real way. He may be insecure that unlike in his life with Olli, in Olli's life, he may not be that novel. Thus, easy to move on fromWhen a glitzier model comes along [enter Rob the Knob, stage right] So, he lashes out/acts out, by showing that he IS TOO still desirable. Double whammies, Christian's specialty: 1) Play (prey) on Olli's insecurity about him and the ladieees. Ha, taste-of-own-medicine, time!/petulant child Christian 2) shows to Olli that he, too, is desirable to others, that he can too be "novel"/keep you on your toes/alluring/sexy. (poor boy doesn't realize, he oozes sexay) ^ in this, sadly, Christian rose to Rob's bait, like he confessed today, as Rob, 2 episodes ago, pre-party, said to Christian, "what will you do at the party? there will be all heteroes there." <- challenging Christian/manhood?/masculinity? Again, Christian, so not rational, but, not without base, either. *** So, really liked today's epi, esp. the sexuality SL, and the emotions/angst and the TALKING. I just think that the overall plot arch is/Chrolli SL [including spoilers thus far], is, for a lack of better word, shallow. My only (big?) gripe with Chrolli atm. Cuz Christian and Olli are being acted amazingly. Really like the human-emotions-issues that we get as good side-stories to the main SL... ...but, the progression of the MAIN STORYLINE, and what they do to the characters [and their {and ours} intelligence] is bleh! It's juvenile. But, I shall enjoy whatever we get so far. Thank you Jo & Thore, you're making this SL actually watchable! And, thanks to the gang who brings it to us in all its forms.

Nice post, luckycharm, u hit the nail righttttt on the head, dear I second that! Thank you, Joanna! I´ve got a tendonitis now *rightclicksave*, but it was worth it. The broadcast version of "Verbotene Liebe" started earlier today and when I started watching the first thing I saw was Christian, Rebecca and the grapes… Haven´t recovered yet. And Sio, I have grapes, too! Just sayin´… Answer to all the good girls and boys: You´re very welcome. Glad, you enjoy the recap! Answer to Sio and Thunderkat: Well, the boots are black leather with very high lacing… you girls can share… Hopp, hopp! Downstairs with you… JMM, you´re comin´?

Wow, Sio, you really know how to express your appreciation. Too bad I don't speak German. Have to figure out how I could be nice to you in the future so I can get some appreciation too. I'm not saying that Olli shouldn't be worried. I'm saying that he's pulling this "ohhhh no, you're really straight" crap right out of his ass. It's insulting and, if I may, manipulative. Yes, he has every right to be upset with Christian. But the whole problem he's exhibited during this SL is his inability to see how things look. He was there when Christian kissed Rebecca at the party - as were we. It wasn't passionate at ALL. That photo is a cheat. Olli's reaction to it is contrived for his own benefit. Yeah, be upset Olli. But be upset about what's really happening and don't be afraid to admit you've made mistakes. Don't be afraid to say, simply: I was wrong. I'm sorry. If you need a good example of how that goes, listen to your Mann. JMM - I find myself in a really odd place because I usually agree with you. In this case, however, I respectfully disagree. ;D I don't believe Olli's fears that Christian has swung back to women are unfounded. In fact, Christian gives him ample reason to believe that (OK, just have to stop a moment and tell you all I'm sorry in advance for using such a poor cliche but..) "gay for you". Olli has a track record with men on the show. Whether he self-identifies as bi or gay, his passionate, emotional connections have been with men and platonic connections have been with women. Christian on the other hand has no track record. His previous passionate, emotional connections have been with women and his platonic connections have been with men. The only exception for Christian is Olli. In every instance when he's shown bad judgment call it has been with a woman. They're kind of his "comfort zone". Were the writers really good they might have created a Ropp character for Christian. In the three instances, well four if you count the blond bimbo Christian danced with, that he showed bad judgment I would have loved to see him flirt or kiss a man. If he found other men more or equally attractive to women, why not grab the guy standing closest to you and plant one on him? Why always, always default to women? Ask yourself this, if Chrolli were to break up, which gender would Olli date and which gender would Christian date next? If we started a poll I bet it the fans would lean heavily on Olli pursuing a relationship with a man, maybe Ropp, and Christian with a woman. So, Olli is very justified in being concerned.

I would like to see Christian date another guy. It'd be like a LOT more interesting and HOT than yet another girl. He's getting way to much female action..

Just watched the episode...
All I know is I couldn't help but laugh has Olli woke up from the nightmare of his dream with Christian surrounded by women . He was sweating so hard you could have wrong his tee shirt out and hung it to dry. And that look of puzzlement on Christian's face has Olli awoke with the words..."Oh My God!" as the scratch of a record put an end to his nightmare. Good thing Olli has a strong heart or that type of a dream could have done him in right there on their favorite couch. I know it was meant to be serious but I couldn't help but laugh at that scene.
I see where some of the comments are coming from regarding what appears to be more concern on Olli's part. I think it has more to do with Jo acting the hell out of his scene. His body language, the way he delivered each line and even the tears perfectly on cue has Olli wondered if they should continue was just terrific. Jo just appeared more emotionally invested in his part today. It doesn't mean that Thore didn't play Christian's turmoil well, it just didn't carry the punch the way Jo came across.
Nevertheless...I truly enjoyed what I saw today. It's pretty heartbreaking to see what their relationship has dissolved into. It's clear both still love each other deeply. Neither one of them want to break up or they would have done so a long time ago. I think Olli and Christian will cling on until the last thread of hope. In fact, I feel the writers are remaining true to the characters in this respect. Olli and Christian were written has this grandiose love story that survived through far more than what most relationships would have to endure, so I find it fitting that they would not just walk away from each other so easily. I think it would take more than what we have seen play out so far on screen. Maybe falling in love with another person would be one of the very few reasons either would throw in the towel.

JMM - I find myself in a really odd place because I usually agree with you. In this case, however, I respectfully disagree. ;D I should think that usually agreeing with me would put you in a really odd place. ;D I have asked myself that question and I'll tell you the answer in a sec. First, let me ask you a question: if Chrolli were to break up, what difference would it make which gender either of them ended up with? Okay, so my question kind of gives away my answer, which is, as much as I like seeing these guys kissing and loving on each other because they're brilliant together AND they're men, my love for both characters compels me to wish happiness for them both regardless of gender and orientation. I don't want them to break up - nothing would make me feel worse - but if they did, then if Olli met up with a woman and began dating her, I would only wish him the best; same for Christian, be a new love a man or a woman. Here, let me put it another way: My greatest desire is that Christian never kisses another man in his entire lifetime - except Olli. ( okay, okay, I confess that I do have wicked thoughts about a certain Mann and a certain Prince, but I also have wicked thoughts about a certain Prince, a certain Mann, and a certain Mann'sMan as well... as long as it's all fantasy, it's all good, right?) It's that simple. As such, I don't see how it matters whether Christian is attracted to men or women or both. Since they've been a couple, Christian has shown no demonstrable love or lust towards anyone other than Olli. How could a label add anything to that? If Christian had kissed Andi instead of Rebecca, would that really make you feel better about Chrolli? More importantly, would Olli feel any better about that? I can't imagine that he would because Chrisitan would still have been kissing someone else. Does the fact that Rob kissed Olli make Christian feel secure because at least he knows Olli is into men? The threat to Olli comes from Christian kissing someone other than him; same for Christian. I just don't see how gender really makes any difference. In another venue I put it to thunderkat in a way that I don't think I could do better than, so I'll just repeat it (expurgated just a bit, of course): When Christian fell for Olli I waited and waited for outward signs that Christian was in fact becoming gay - or even bi (I've been watching since 3/08). Never happened. After I got bored with waiting I was re-watching the ep. where Christian dreams that Olli comes into NL and they kiss, Gregor reacts with "So... are you gay now?" and Christian says: "I simply love Olli." He doesn't oogle other guys or even women because he only sees Olli. Olli fills his whole imagination. It's something that I love about the character. It's as if the process of coming to terms with his attraction and feelings for Olli resulted in a sexual identity that transcends labels. He isn't gay. He isn't straight. He simply loves Olli. That may not be realistic; but fuck me if it isn't mythic.

He just fell in love with someone and he's sticking by that love. I remember when Andi came back and asked him if he was gay, now, and Chris said something like: "I guess I am." (Not sure if these are the exact words) . I always got the impression that he meant : If loving Olli means I'm gay, then yes, I am. As if he thought: I don't see myself as gay, but if puting a label on me helps you understand me better, fine. (Am I making any sense??)

I have to say, I wasn't that keen on Christian until his storyline began with Olli, and I was pretty much won over at the time Olli was, because once he and Olli were friends, and then together, he literally didn't see anyone but Olli, which I think is so cute. In this last episode when Olli asks why he kissed Rebecca again, and Christian said he didn't know, I think it shows that he doesn't know 'what' he is, what category he falls under, and that is obviously because he hasn't found himself attracted to anyone but Olli since they got together. I think it is also why he finds it so ridiculous that Olli thinks he is into women, because he hasn't even considered being with a woman rather than Olli. Yeah, not entirely realistic I suppose, but then this is Olli we are talking about, he has some crazy power over people apparently...

I usually don’t post on Christian and Olli, but I felt the need today because of yesterday’s episode. So please try and bare with me.
I have read through some of the comments and some feel that Olli is coming out of nowhere with his fear Christian might be reverting back to women. I have always had a bit of a problem when a character who has been portrayed on a show as historically “straight”, falls head over heel in love with the same gender. Not because it can’t happen, not because love doesn’t transcend gender, race and cultural differences. But because generally speaking the writers tend not to explore the issue any further than saying well “they love each other”. Or “love is love”, very true but love like people (or more to the point because of people) is also very complicated. It a perfect world it shouldn’t be, but the human element involved in it makes it so.
I don’t know how many people have ever watched Oz, but in that situation the character of Tobias Beecher was a straight man who fell in love with a man named Chris Keller. In Tobias’ case his homosexuality was situational in that it only pertained to him being in prison. Yes he had sex with other men beside Keller (some situations forced as he was raped) but others in later years were retaliatory against Keller for hurting him or saying he didn’t care who Beecher f$%ked. But when it came to other love relationships, Beecher always went back to women. He fell in love with a female lawyer trying to get him out on parole. When he was finally paroled he started seeing another woman (which made Keller jealous enough to mess up Beecher‘s parole and have him sent back to prison.) Keller on the other hand was a sexual predator. He was a shark moving ever forward always looking for the next bite and it didn’t matter much to him one way or the other where he got it from as long as his appetite was satisfied.
Olli (to me) has a legitimate concern. When he met Christian he was in a serious relationship with a woman. Christian had never displayed any attraction for other men before or (if we think about it) after he met Olli. It has had to cross Olli’s mind (as I think it would anyone in that situation) if Christian (who has identified as gay) is actually gay, or just in love with him. Because whenever there is trouble and Christian acts out he does so with a woman. He thinks that it’s “tit for tat”, or just (in the case of Miriam) some drunk nonsense. But to Olli its cruel. Because it makes him question not just the relationship but himself. “Is Christian looking for an out? Why is it always a woman?” They’re legitimate questions I’m surprised the writers haven’t explored before now (and according to spoilers aren‘t really going delve into now either.)
I don’t know if these are the same writers as in the beginning of the relationship, but there were several instances when they had Christian say he was “turning gay” as if it were a choice he was making. I’m of the opinion that one doesn’t suddenly turn gay. It’s not a switch you turn on and off. Sexuality as a whole is far more fluid than that. I also feel it does a disservice to the gay community to have him say that because it then legitimizes those to do feel that homosexuality (specifically) or sexuality (genrally) is a choice. To me that did more of a disservice, than Olli questioning whether Christian has gone back to women.
We also have to remember that at this juncture Christian has kissed more than one woman. That he’s done so at least twice in a “retaliatory” manner (i.e because of his jealousy of Rob). And you have Rob feeding into those doubts. Actively manipulating Olli’s frustrations and fueling those questions he might always have had about Christian but never gave serious thought or voice to because he and Christian were in a good place. To me it’s a conversation that is long over due.
At least that the view from my particular bridge.

They're certainly legitimate, just as legitimate as Christians concerns re: Rob. They're BOTH questioning the relationship though for different reasons. To me however, I don't think the writers really have done enough to make this seem like a long-standing concern for Olli. The idea is legitimate, but as usual the execution doesn't convince. And people can make the same case against Rob. Legitimate concerns, not so hot execution.
They are most certainly NOT the same writers, well, not the same head writer. We all know being gay is not a choice, but if you think about who Christian was, it's not such a far-fetched position to hold. He's basically completely unenlightened about his own sexuality, about sexual dynamics in general and Olli is the one to teach him and guide him through that. I don't think having Christian say "turn gay" legitimizes anything, it just reflects an attitude that is out there. Plus, if its the 4/14/08 episode you're referring to I remember how Thore said the line and it was full of confusion and uncertainty reflecting part of the journey of the character, and as the story develops he actually drops the label "schwul" until the boxing ring, at which point he sort of laughs at it. At GOOL Tom Chroust, JO and Thore focus on how it's supposed to be love between two human beings, so i think the idea of transcending labels is the one that is the focus. That someone like Christian could ever do a 180 like this, and then how a character like that even deals with the idea is what captures our imagination.

Yes Christian’s concerns are legitimate as it pertains to Rob. But Rob is only as much of a threat as Christian makes/allows him to be. Rob wouldn’t have nearly as much “power” if Christian didn’t give it to him. And his acts of retaliation have only fueled Rob’s pursuit of Olli. I’m not saying Olli isn’t to blame for not setting firm unshakeable/unmovable boundaries with Rob, ones he couldn’t cross or wouldn’t dare cross. But in his mind doesn’t care about the advances Rob makes (even though it‘s flattering to him) because his heart mind, body and soul belongs to Christian. He doesn’t care that Rob flirts with him, because at the end of the night he’s going home with or to Christian.
And I agree the writers haven’t done the leg work it takes to have Olli’s concern about Christian look more than trite and last minute. And it would go a long way if they were to tackle it now, but I doubt that once it’s out there in the ether they will go into it further, that him having asked the question and Christian in some way answering it in a way Olli will buy into. Which is a shame…

Which is a shame… This is exactly what I'm thinking about Olli and his "relationship" with Rob and with everything Olli should say to Christian. great post JMM yesterday you asked me this question : " how far is Olli willing to take that" and you said you keep wondering this question since the epp with the critic, do you really think Olli would have slept with this guy just for good feedback ? I do agree his attitude not saying that Christian was is boyfriend was appaling, on the other hand it's was none of his (the critic) business. Do you still think that Olli will do the same with Rob? IMO Olli is stronger than that. Yes he has been attacted to Rob, answered to his kiss (the Bloody Mary not helping). Christian is scared because Rob told him he wants to sleep with Olli ... and ?? will it still change the situation for Olli ? I don't think so I have a question for you "How far will Christian go next time ?" Will he sleep with Rebecca because another guy will lay his fingers on Olli's shoulder or when somebody will confess that he wants to sleep with Olli ? I know Olli is partly reponsible in this SL for Christian's insecurities but IMO you can't say that Olli is the type of guy who can sleep with someone just for some benefits Sylvain
