Part 2 (Chapter 2: New chances; part 2/2) Sytze is visiting a beach club with Esmee. If Esmee want to ask something about Karif, Sytze says he doesn't want to talk about him this day. Sytze sees a boy, caught in a dog leash. The dog ran circles around the boy, and the boy don't know what to do. Sytze is trying to help him. He's sure: the boy he is helping is gay. Freeing the boy failled, and Sytze and the boy both fall on the floor because of the dog behavior.
The boy, called Scot(t) seems to flirt with Sytze, but Sytze is not sure. Sytze notice that he could go to find the boy really nice. Scot ask Sytze if he is looking for a date; just as Esmee is doing. Sytze gives a mysterious answer. Esmee tells Scot Sytze is really great. Sytze is being shy because of Esmee.
Scot's ex is a member of the band who is playing in the beach club. He is a dark skinned boy, with dark eyes, white teeth and a huge bunch dreadlocks. Scot and his ex say hi to each other in a gentle way. Scot propose Sytze to 'his favourite ex-boyfriend' Edgar. If Edgar en Sytze look each other in the eyes for one moment, Sytze is in love. Edgar say hi to Sytze with a kiss on his hand and the words: 'Hi. Nice name.' Sytze can't say a word. He can only look to Edgar. Scot says to Edgar that Sytze is for him. Edgar says Sytze that he will play this evening for Sytze especially.
Esmee says to Scot: "Or you have to find another man, or you have to become straight and dance with me. Sytze is busy now." Sytze did not like Esmees comment, but Scot says that he also know that Sytze and Edgar love each other. Sytze don't know what to answer.
Edgar is a singer and saxophonist. His mother was a teenager when he was born. His mother made no problem about Edgar's sexuality.
Sytze realize that his parents don't know anything about his sexuality. They think he and Esmee love each other. Sytze thinks his parents are afraid for the 'unknown' (homosexuality). He is alsno not sure if his parents have ever saw a darkskined guy. Sytze and his father could not get along. His father think Sytze is doing everything wrong. Sytze dares not to tell Edgar, his parents know nothing.
Sytze and Edgar kiss, and Sytze is sure he and Edgar will stay together. Sytze (on guitar) and Edgar (saxophone) play the song 'Love in vain' together. Sytze have to think about Roos because of Edgar.
When Esmee is leaving, she give Sytze a condom 'for security'. Sytze is shy because it's only the first date, but he takes it.
Edgar says later that evening at Sytze that he likes to make love with him. He sees also that Sytze want to do that, but says that there might be a problem for Sytze. Sytze has to think about Karif, but did not want to talk about it. He is restless because of his thought of Karif. Edgar seduces Sytze. Sytze know that something beautiful will happen. Sytze and Edgar make love.
To be continued...

Part 3 (Chapter 2: Time for honesty; part 1/4) After the first lovemaking between Sytze and Edgar, they walked to Amsterdam. They went to a night cafe where Edgar introduced Sytze as his new boyfriend to anyone who he knows. Sytze is proud he has something with a person who is honest about his sexuality. Since that night they were together every free minute and they had sex, nightlife, sex, and more sex.
Sytze bake a egg for Edgar, but finally for everybody in 'het Pakhuis'. He wants everyone together because he wants to tell something. He wants to tell everyone that he and Edgar love each other. He wants to tell is because he's proud. Pieter (Sanne's boyfriend) recommend immediately that Sytze is in love.
During breakfast, Sytze want to tell about his new boyfriend, but just before he can start, Esmee accidently said it. Sytze is disappointed: he wanted to tell it by himself. Edgar enters the room. Everybody likes him.

Part 4 (Chapter 2: Time for honesty; part 2/4)JP has trouble with the lies of the past of Sytze. Sytze will have to restore the confidence of JP. Sytze proposes JP to Edgar. JP now realizes that the Karif-secret must have been not easy for him. Sytze has the opinion JP behaves strange. Sytze sees Yousef in Café JP. Sytze introduces Edgar as his new boyfriend. Kim and Sytze are both tense awaiting to the response of Yousef. Yousef responds well, so long as he does not have to see the weedle between Sytze and Edgar. Because of the immediacy of Yousef, the ice have been broken. Sytze explains to Edgar that Yousef has a little trouble with his sexuality, but especially with his lies about Karif. Edgar is very sweet with Sytze when he talks about Karif. Sytze make the decision to tell everything about his relationship with Karif in the past. Sytze pretends the relationship is not much suggested, while he still loves Karif. Edgar's mother, Estelle, comes along with two daughters (Daphne and Simphna) and two sons (Roy and Brayn), all teenagers. Sytze is nervous and introduces himself by saying: "Hello ma'am, I'm Sytze. Gay." Sytze's ashamed after he said so. Estelle rated Sytze as a little pale, bad clothes but a nice guy. Edgar (nickname by Estelle: dushi) kisses Sytze (where Sytze really have to get used to). Edgar wants a steady relationship, Scot wanted to enjoy his freedom, that's why they are broken. The sisters and brothers Edgar found Sytze fine. Estelle says to 'white' (Sytze) that she sees that there is one other. Estelle asks Sytze to not hurt Edgar. It seems a joke, but Sytze is shocked. Estelle welcomes Sytze to the family.

I'm afraid they will not make it on TV Part 5 (Chapter 2: Time for honesty; part 3/4)Edgar has his own apartment, but is often at the home of his mother. Estelle take care of her five children her whole life. Edgar has dinner every weekday at Estelles home. Pretty soon, Sytze is also having dinner at Estelles home. Edgar involves Sytze in the gay scene, where Sytze has never been with Karif. Sometimes, Esmee goes with him to the gay clubs, because she likes the people. Sytze has difficulty sometimes with the immediacy of some gay men in the gay club. At home, Sytze was the youngest child. His two brothers Douwe and Falk share their fathers fascination of the World War II. Sytze was interested in music and soccer, but his father never came to watch a game. His mother did appreciate Sytze's interests. The parents made quarrel regular about Sytze. Sytze even heard his father say that he would not be surprised if Sytze was not his child. His mother thought that his father had to pay attention to Sytze, but his father thought Sytze had to interest in his interests. Sytze and Oscar have a relationship for two months. Estelle wants to organize a dinner for both families to meet each other. Sytze don't like this idea. However, Sytze said his parents know about his sexuality. Estelle set up the meeting on Friday about two weeks. Sytze suggests that his parents have never been in Amsterdam. Estelle doesn't think this is a problem: Estelle and her family + Sytze can also visit Friesland. Edgar notes Sytze is trying to find a way out. Edgar is also trying to let Estelle know it is not a good idee to have diner with both familuies. Sytzeis afraid, Edgar thinks Sytze is uncertain about their relationship. Estelle asks Sytze if his family is racist. Sytze does not answer. He say that he will call his family the next day, but from inside, he knows he will not call...

Part 6 (Chapter 2: Time for honesty; part 4/4) Sytze tells Edgar he has to go to his work, but actually, he wants to think about his problems. On the bike, he is accosted by a group of drunken youths. One of the boys notices that Sytze is gay, and indicates he hates gay people.
Edgar's brother Brayn comes out of a taxi. Sytze is relieved. The boy swears Brayn for Negro and asks if he is gay. Brayn says it's true and he asks the boy for a threesome. Brayn begins to touch the boy and the boy runs away.
Sytze focuses on an invitation from Brayn for a beer. Brayn know by Estelle that Sytze has night shift. Sytze admits to having no night shift, and that he had to think. He confessed the truth to Brayn, and realizes that Estelle and Edgar would understand that he does not dare tell his parents. Sytze feels a schijterd.
During urination Sytze realizes that the relationship with his father is the reason he did not have told anything about his sexuality. He thinks that if he told his parents, his mother will accept him and his father would drop him. Brayn brings Sytze to Edgar and Estelle because Sytze wants to talk with them.
There is just a party going in the house, but Estelle and Edgar isolate themselves off as they indicates that Sytze wants to talk with them. Sytze recounts the events on the street and the help Brayn. Edagar thinks Sytze has to report it immediately. Sytze says it is not the thing he wants to tell about. He confessed to having lied, but that now he no longer wants to suffer double life and he don't want to be afraid anymore. Edgar and Estelle don't blame him, they are pleased, Sytze is feeling comfortable with them, that he wants to drop his fears. They think Sytze is too strict for himself.
Estelle gets the idea to organize a dinner in the Pakhuis, so Sytze can tell te truth, but Sytze does not think a confrontation is a good idee. Edgar supports this. Edgar and Sytze going home to have another night together. Then Sytze will make an appointment with his parents to tell about his sexuality

If we could decide who we loved, it would be much simpler, but less magical.

It's always the way in soaps, you are finally moving on and being happy with your new love who can give you everything you want/need. And in walks your old love, who you couldn't have because of complications but still hold a major torch for.
Poor Sytze, what is he going to do?

It is also possible that it needs time. Sytze indicates that he thinks he still has feelings for both. JP is also doubt about love: is he really in love with Annemarie or does he more like Bettina? They come to the conclusion that there is a mess and that they have to solve. Sytze finally realizes that Karif and Sytze is not possible anymore. He loves Edgar, and so, he choose for him.

Part 12 (Chapter 8: The liberation [final chapter with Sytze]; part 5/5) Douwe, Sytze's brother, thinks it is OK if Sytze will sit next to him, but he should definitely not touch him. Sytze tries to explain being gay is not a disease. Abbe (younger brother) asked if he has 'this' all his life. Sytze indicates that this is likely, but he's sure about it only one year. Falk notes that he's not only gay, but also stupid. Edgar interferes with this conversation, however Dauwe don't think that is OK. Edgar indicates that it was very difficult for Sytze to come out of the closet. Falk says he understands, because nobody will be happy if he recognizes his own gay sexuality. Edgar find them so hard to judge, because they also have feelings. Falk finds that gay people are wrong: it is unnatural. "Everybody knows that."
Sytze responds by asking Falk if touching girls unwanted in the haystack is natural. He asked Dauwe if robbing a grocery store, and let somebody else go in jail because of that, is natural. Douwe says it are all lies.
Estelle tells Sytze's father that not every parent has the same love for his child. Sytze's father thinks this is nonsense: Sytze is like the rest. Estelle notice he said something else earlier. Sytze's father is confused, but says that to mean he was his child, like the rest. His father thinks that Sytze is lying about Falk and Douwe. He can not pronounce the word gay. Sytze's father says he will lost contact with Sytze. Sytze feels, to his surprise, relieved. He kissed the hand of Edgar. He tells his mother that he is proud of her: how can she be so long with somebody like his father? Sytze said he did everything, just for a bit of fatherly love, but he got nothing because he hadn't the same interests as him. He said they are glad that the play is over, and now they no longer need to have contact. The same goes for his brothers Douwe and Falk. Abbe and Sytze's mother do have a big heart.
Abbe is agitated by Sytze's words. "Maybe I'm the same as Sytze. In everything," he said. And he admits he is also gay (WOW. I did not expect that! It's a month ago I read this, and now, I'm trying to translate this difficult conversation, and I'm still impressed about this twist) . He asks his father if he will now outcast him also. His father gets a cardiac arrest. Sytze provide first aid. But does not go with his father to the hospital.
Abbe thanks Sytze because of his openness. Because of the things Sytze said he could tell the truth about his own sexuality. Everyone is proud on Sytze, and everyone wants a drink together, but Sytze wants to be alone, and goes home.
He enters the home (Pakhuis) if someone greeted him: the real, one and only, Karif.
#The END
