The Green Lantern project at HBO Max is facing a major overhaul with the showrunner departing the series despite writing scripts for a full first season of 8 episodes and, most depressingly, the focus shifting away from openly gay Green Lantern, Alan Scott. It is not expected for that incarnation of the character to appear, much less star, in the retooled show, meaning that we are losing our first (and probably only) gay superhero-led series. While budgetary concerns have been blamed for the change, it is notable that HBO Max is also under a new parent company whose CEO wants to appeal to a "mainstream audience". www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/greg-berlanti-green-lantern-series-hbo-max-redeveloped-1235248929/

Incessant complaints about "wokeness" lead to queer characters being shut down, just as expected. (the next step will be some of these same people complaining about a black leading man) Luckily for those figures, they won't have anything to worry about with DC material having any real lgbt rep, aside from a few niche shows that are probably in their last days due to who is now at the top.

What a surprise. One suspects that the bigots, while chafing at the show being led by a Black man, will find it harder to voice their dismay without it being transparently seen for the racism it is. The erasure of LGBTQ+ leads is far more palatable across the spectrum (especially if it's a cis gay white man played by a straight actor), and the Warner-Discovery (parent company of HBO Max) leadership can always put a positive spin on the fact that they replaced him with a Black man. I already see folks (and I don't mean rightwingers) cheering that it was "about time" they made this change - seemingly ignorant that there's no real shortage of straight Black superheroes already leading their own shows/films, from Black Lightning to Captain America to Black Adam to Black Panther (and two of those are in cinemas right now). We have to face it: the LGBTQ+ community is always going to get the short shrift, particularly in genres where we have been traditionally unrepresented or, at best, marginalized, despite being a disproportionately large segment of their fanbases.

Interesting, but the article say the book was written by 3 ppl? That seems like a situation of too many chef in the kitchen...

I suspect because the 2 men aren't professional writers, so they probably contributed the story ideas/characteristics but the lady (who is an author in her own right) would have done the actual writing.

Why doesn't Titans have its own thread? There was a very cute kiss in the new episode! They have been building up to this for a while and I think it ws well done.

I think we were wary of opening a new thread originally because we weren't sure if anything would come of Tim's sexuality. Now that it has, they definitely deserve their own thread - feel free to start one!

Bad Education will return for a final 45-minute special which is expected to serve as a springboard to a spin-off series that will star out actor Layton Williams (whose character is also gay) as one of the co-leads, alongside Charlie Wernham, whom soap fans may recognize from his roles on Hollyoaks and EastEnders. Their characters, previously problematic students of Jack Whitehall, now find themselves on the other side of the teacher's desk. The Bad Education: Reunion special, which is expected to mark the final appearance of series star Jack Whitehall, will air next week on the 15th. ETA: In a Guardian interview with Whitehall, it suggests the spin-off starring Layton is actually series 4 of Bad Education (not a spin-off as such) and will premiere next month. http://instagram.com/p/Cl6BbExo5V6

Netflix is trying to make it up to you with its announcement of a new gay YA series adaptation: (I'm a bit perplexed why it's a series instead of a film.) http://instagram.com/p/CnO_nofO4qN

Nicholas Galitzine (Cinderella) has been cast opposite Julianne Moore in Sky and AMC’s buzzy period drama Mary & George about powerful royal family favorites Mary Villiers and her son George. Filming on the drama series is now underway in the UK. Oscar winner Moore will play Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham, who in 17th century England molded her beautiful son, George (Galitzine), to seduce King James I and become his all-powerful lover. Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become one of the richest, most titled and influential mother and sons England had ever seen. deadline.com/2023/01/nicholas-galitzine-julianne-moore-series-mary-george-amc-sky-filming-uk-1235221276/

The show sounds interesting (and I recognize the second actor, David Montalvo, from the last season of Control Z), but that article says the show was already in production last April - and there's been no news since?

One of the actors of Tengo que morir todas las noches posted an update, just thanking the people behind the show for making it happen and that the first part will be showed at the festival in France: http://instagr.am/p/Cp5SdcmO_P6
