is there any thing in the last show They both appeared as prom dates in the season premiere (actually a leftover episode from last season, which they couldn't finish filming due to Covid) but I don't think they even kissed. Drew Ray Tanner (Fangs) is now a regular cast member which I hope means more airtime for him and for Kevin. Then again, Kevin has been a regular since season 2 and still has very little focus (if anything, reduced focus since he made regular!)

That's a pretty accurate analysis of the show, and of the CW's attempts at gay male representation in general.

its hit the nail on the head for me, i am always very wary when i see a show on the CW that has any kind of gay male representation in it, as i know it will amount to nothing but some over used tropes and barley any screen time.
There is a vast difference in having a Varity of LGBTQ+ characters on a show to tick boxes and then failing to round them out of actually use them, but then with the CW gay/bi male characters always seam to be pushed to the background in favour of lesbian/bi female characters from what i have seen from alot of their shows, as they are always the safer thing rating wise.

I'd argue that, in the case of Riverdale, they don't even do lesbians right.

I find difficult to understand why this show is popular because it's pretty bad.
And yes, Kevin storylines are generally atrocious, the fact that Casey Scott seems to prefer to be anywhere else than kissing his boyfriends didn't help neither

Yeah, it's just openly gay-baiting at this point but hey, it can't be any worse than the stories they give their gay couples. Charles Melton who plays Reggie seems more into that gay kiss than Casey. And KJ Apa is always stupid hot, but that shirtless fireman get-up is next-level.

The show has jumped the sharks seasons ago. What is crazier than jumping the shark?
They should have just ended the show when they graduated. This time jump + them being teachers are just too much... This show has gone on too long and they need to just kill it already.

Once again they had to blow up Kevin's relationship

I just read the recap of the latest episode. Kevin gets gay bashed and then announces that he's ashamed of being gay. Seriously, every time you think their gay storytelling can't get any worse, they manage to plumb new depths. And this show is run by an openly gay man!
Look, I'm sure most of us appreciate that Casey Cott has finally gotten comfortable taking his top off (wish he would be comfortable with same-sex physical intimacy, too) but that really doesn't make up for some truly god-awful gay storytelling. I've been hard on Casey - I'll never understand why he was cast in the role, considering he's neither comfortable playing gay nor has he provided the beefcake this show is known for until FIVE seasons in - but with this calibre of storytelling, not even the most talented and confident out gay actor could save it.

Well, the fact that they have an openly gay writer explains a lot. Quantico had one of the most obvious homophobic storylines (the character who was supposed to be gay was really straight and he lied for no reason but the real gay character was a traitor and a coward) had a gay head writer. I think a lot of gays in Hollywood have a very clear inferiority complex. A lot of producers and director who not cast openly gay actors are gay themselves, and gay agents are the ones who tell their gay actors they should not come out and they better in a fake relationship. The fact they gave Casey Scott (and actor who or he is pretty bad or he is clearly uncomfortable playing a gay character, or maybe a combination of both) the role is just a clear indication that something is wrong. But to be fair he is not the main guilty of the gay storyline being such trainwreck The show is pretty bad anyway and it's surprising it has such loyal audience

I do notice how many times gay producers do a terrible job with gay characters, or have complete disgust for them. Kevin's story is completely incomprehensible. Frequently cruising in the woods (mostly so that producer pet Betty could shame him), then suddenly we learned he was a complete virgin who had saved himself for the right man. Now he's been self-loathing all this time and we're meant to think that any gay man who is interested in cruising or group sex is broken. Yet they never made even the tiniest effort to establish a relationship between Kevin and Fangs. They have failed this story and this character at every turn, and they have failed gay viewers.

I think the show is a good long runner, because also that the writting and storytelling is not so good. They make something right. Like the main genre murdermystery is allways a guaranteed for good ratings. Than a lot of Eyecandys, a lot of skin, at least every 2 episodes someone is shirtless, also the Casting all good looking people, sex sells till today. And what I think is the main reason, no matter who you self think: "why did he oder she do this like that, it is not logical, it is stupid, it is so out of character". I think you care about them, no matter what. Thats the reason for the success. Compare to like Teenwolf, the show makes it good in that way, that they can make the audience care about the main roles.

As much plot issues there are with Teen Wolf, it is still light years ahead of Riverdale. Many times, Riverdale is more out there than even Teen Wolf, a supernatural show. Also, the characters in Teen Wolf is still fairly consistent at least.

And teen wolf was too much into gay baiting but the show was not homophobic or regressive, in my oppinion Riverdale pretends to be something that it's not, Kevin was a character with potential that never went nowhere (and there are huge casting and writting mistakes there)

You think this show could not get any worse in its gay representation, and then it goes and has Fangs and Toni make out.
