I think and hope that Lucious really is the biological father of that little girl. Not because I don't want to think that Jamal couldn't have had sex with a female. I just think that he would have had protected sex with her and used a condom. I think that Jamal will always love Michael, but they weren't meant to be OTP. I don't even think the new British guy is supposed to be his OTP. Can we at least just see Jamal exploring his new founded open and true life, without having to automatically pair him with someone new as his OTP? Let's see him dating, with hot male candy on his arm. The lack of DNA testing is obviously to allow Jamal to get attached and then potentially pull the rug under his feet with major drama, and Lucious tends to play a key role in that kind of stuff. And I so agree about the OTP thing. It's amazing that exploration is such an anomaly with shows and viewers' demands in general. Why people have to constantly be automatically OTP-ed in shows (and sadly also in real life), even when we know nothing about the depth of the relationship in question or sometimes even its potential, and especially with really young characters who still have so much to learn about themselves let alone about relationships, perplexes me sometimes. I love how the show shamelessly revels in its soap opera quality. There’s a lot of suspension of belief, but I barely care, I’m still riding these messy waves right now. Yet the show also manages to drop a lot of small but relevant truth bombs, notably in regards to race.

Oh, Andre. I'm not really attached to the character (at least he's not as much of an ass like Lucious), but it's still hard to watch him lose control of his mind. In the elevator, I kept wondering whether Jamal and Hakeem knew what was going on, but I don't really think so. It was touching how the three brothers supported each other. Much better than stabbing each other in the back. At least Lucious decided his business was more important than his homophobia. I loved Jamal telling him off beforehand. That's gotta kill Lucious, though, to have his own words used against him like that. Good . One brief scene of Jamal and Ryan getting close. Looks like things are moving fast. As for Anika, it's good she got out. She doesn't have the loyalty to Lucious that his family does, and she's not willing to stick around to get hurt by him even more. It's probably a good thing (for now) that she didn't tell Beretti (sp?) about Lucious' ALS.

Well, I thought the shooting was surprisingly graphic for a primetime show. So Lucious is Lola's father. That was ... predictable . Like many others, I still wonder why they all accepted Jamal was the father without trying to get a paternity test. At least the mother's behavior makes a lot more sense now. So the brothers now have a little sister; I wonder if she'll ever be back. I guess it was honorable for Jamal to want to take care of her, though I thought he wasn't exactly in a position to raise her by himself. I wonder what will happen with Ryan now. At least he was upfront about not really wanting to date a guy who's raising a little girl. But now that isn't an issue. I also found it very interesting that everyone except Cookie knew that Andre had a mental illness. I wasn't sure whether they knew. Lucious was in denial, of course, like he is with so much else, which led me to think he didn't know. I'm glad that Cookie told Lucious to pound sand. Though I will admit he was uncharacteristically ... altruistic during the standoff with Cookie held hostage. But Lucious really is toxic and she's better off seeing Malcolm. Looking forward to next week's season finale .

Not feeling ryan at all and hopes that next season Michael comes back and they work things out. I think Malcom is up to something snd Cookie better look out the guy did 180 from not wanting to be with the boss's wife to I can't stop thinking about you, I just feel he's up to no good.
This episode was not the best but I still enjoyed it. Hopefully this is the last I will see Naomi.

Despite his still present need for validation from his father and his personal issues stemming from it, when push comes to shove, Jamal really shows no fear, almost to the point of recklessness. He’s been defiant twice now while staring at the barrel of a gun. No idea where they're going with Ryan; it's just one of those things that are just there again. So Lucious, and really all the family aside from Cookie, pretty much knew about Andre’s mental issue but he chose to rebuff its existence in his almightiness, kind of like Jamal’s sexuality. He claimed to have saved them from the psycho, but no one was more destructive for his family in that room than him. It was nice to see Rhonda show her chops and hold her own with Lucious this time around. This episode was not the best but I still enjoyed it. No kidding, lol. There was so much misfiring all over the place, from the pacing to some of the lines and the execution, but I still find the messiness mostly hilarious and almost adorable with this show.

I knew that Lola really wasn't Jamal's child, but how it was revealed was pretty good. It showed that Jamal really would try and protect her, even if it was reckless. He wasn't about saving his life.
Lucious really is toxic, to the entire family and of course he would deny Andre's mental diagnosis, Jamal's sexuality AND paying off Camille to get her out of Hakeem's life.
It's all about him, what he gives and takes away from his family and what he wants.
Now, he wants Cookie back, but she was right: He just doesn't want to die alone. Yet, the Cookie that was "do and die" for him, has grown up and sees how selfish he is to everyone around him.
That move that Jennifer pulled on Andre was too much. Who goes and prays like that?
I know that Terrance Howard was supposed to be the "draw" of the show, but I have to say that I want Cookie, Andre, Jamal, Hakeem, the uncle, Rhonda, Lola and Camille to dance on Lucious' grave for the second season finale.
I'm excited to see how this season ends next Wednesday night.

I don't think that the show will have Michael, returning in the next season, asking for Jamal to take him back. That ship has sailed. I also don't think that Cookie has to look out on Malcolm to betray her. I think that Lucious has to keep an eye out on him, after how disgusted Malcolm was in how he had to ship Camille off to JFK. Malcolm can see how this leader, this commander is out of control. Lucious isn't out to save his family. He's determined to control what is his, regardless of how it damages the ones, he professes to love.

Eh, they're not really doing any more to develop Ryan's character than they did with Michael. I can't really get attached to either one. Which bothers me a little bit. Both Michael and Ryan felt like secondary supporting characters and not really integrated into the show. I hope they do a better job developing Jamal's love interest next season (whoever that is). I know that Terrance Howard was supposed to be the "draw" of the show, but I have to say that I want Cookie, Andre, Jamal, Hakeem, the uncle, Rhonda, Lola and Camille to dance on Lucious' grave for the second season finale. By "the uncle" are you thinking of Vernon? I've been thinking about the long term, too. I don't know that I necessarily want to see them dancing on Lucious' grave, but I would like to see how they all deal with it. Lots of unresolved mixed feelings there to work with.

Lots of unresolved mixed feelings there to work with. Both Michael and Ryan should be secondary characters, because I don't think that Jamal's at the point of wanting and/or needing someone, who is his Rhonda and/or Camille. If Daniels and Strong allow Lucious to die, in the next season or two, I hope to see how his death affects the family. Cookie and his ex-fiance, are both probably still in love with him, but he's hurt them with all of his lies. You cannot help who you love, but you can cut ties with that person and how much they can affect your life. Vernon, the brother who has been by his side, protecting Lucious, his kids and also helping him with "his" musical legacy. Lucious continues to keep saying, that everything is "his", but he couldn't have and didn't achieved that, all on his own. His children: Andre, Jamal and Hakeem. Both Jamal and Andre are nursing deep hurts by Lucious, but Hakeem's the "baby" of the family (not including Lola). He hasn't "disappointed" his father, too much with his mentally stability or his sexual orientation, but he's finally seeing how his father treats his family and he cannot abide with it. Especially, when he had Camille by his side. Camille, wasn't only about finding a mother figure for Hakeem. This was about Hakeem having someone, who was on his side. His version of Rhonda. You notice, how he wasn't at all about, keeping up the facade of dating the other female artist?

Thanks for the link. I think, the casting agents have done an amazing job in casting actors, who can sing (or is it singers, that can act)?! I never, ever expected Empire to be this damn good and I'm thrilled with its success. Absolutely thrilled by it. I think, that this is the new "glory years of tv". Shows that are based around minority characters, that have always been regulated to the "sidekick" on network tv and cable. Netflix and their programming.
