This show continues to get better with each new episode. Love this messy goodness. The road to the top always corrupts, and Jamal's just getting familiar with that. The question is how deep down he might go to show his father up. Cookie isn't necessarily helping on that front so far. The celebrity cameos and features up to now on Empire are almost surprisingly mostly well executed, which isn't always a given for any show. Courtney Love and Raven, even for the little time she was on, brought on new entertaining messes.

Cookie making her take off all the unnecessary crap she had on and telling her to "be real". Raven as Jamal's baby momma! These creators loved and watched "Dynasty", because that character is Sammi Jo reborn.

Ah, character development! Just a little bit, but it's something. Now we know Michael is studying to be a chef, and is starting to be concerned about the future of his relationship with Jamal, which I don't expect to last much longer the way Jamal is going. That may be why they haven't done much to develop Michael so far. I guess we'll see. I kind of get why Jamal didn't want to come out right then. But he clearly didn't think ahead that singing about love would prompt that kind of question. Saying that there was no one special was pretty bad. Maybe there was no other way to handle it, but he's not making his boyfriend feel any better. Part of me doubts that the girl is really Jamal's. There was something about the way the mother acted that makes me wary. I'm enjoying Empire. I was initially skeptical when I saw Fox do the same "you can buy this music online" thing like they do with Glee, but so far they've been doing a great job. The characters are complex and things are moving organically. Hopefully they can keep it up. The road to the top always corrupts, and Jamal's just getting familiar with that. The question is how deep down he might go to show his father up. Cookie isn't necessarily helping on that front so far. Yeah. I'm not too thrilled with the changes in Jamal's approach to things. I kind of wish he was still just about the music (like he apparently used to be), rather than seeking fame and trying to get Empire. It doesn't seem like he would help out Hakeem any more, like he did just a few episodes ago. I used to like that they were good brothers before this all started. But Lucius is a prick to Jamal, Andre schemed, and Cookie is pushing for her own reasons.

Thanks for posting the link. Those stories also have to be seen of acceptance with minority groups, because they do happen.

It's really the gift that keeps on giving for Fox right now. Goes to show that veering off from the same formulaic shows of recent times and taking chances on diversity can pay off even in prime time. Hopefully the show itself keeps its entertaining factor for a good while.

What a way to come out, Jamal. Lucious’ reactions were hilarious, and I loved how everyone else showed support and pride. What did Lucious expect Jamal’s “truth” to be anyway? And who needed a wedding announcement anymore after that? On another note, as cute as his alleged daughter is, someone needs to at least mention DNA testing. Andre needs help and his wife can’t handle this on her own, especially as more things pile up. The actor has been really stepping up on the character’s isolation and sickness. As much as they all talk about family, they often have this inability to pay enough attention outside of themselves until it blows up in their face. A lot of it goes back to the parents. Both Cookie and Lucious aren’t the greatest parents in both acts and omissions, though Lucious continues to prove to be especially awful as a father. It’s interesting how the women on this show are presented as so fierce yet so dependent on men at the same time.

To be fair, Cookie was a wonderful mother to her children before she went to prison for 17 years, if that did not happen her sons would be in a better place. Jamal could have come out in a different way, he just wanted to stick it to his father. It certainly didn't take him long to get over Michael, a guy he claims to love and now he's already on to the new guy, it took him less than a minute to do that. I liked Michael and wish they would have worked things out. I definitely love my done Cookie and I think Jamal should have had a DNA test done cause I think Luscious is the father.

I think and hope that Lucious really is the biological father of that little girl. Not because I don't want to think that Jamal couldn't have had sex with a female. I just think that he would have had protected sex with her and used a condom. I think that Jamal will always love Michael, but they weren't meant to be OTP. I don't even think the new British guy is supposed to be his OTP. Can we at least just see Jamal exploring his new founded open and true life, without having to automatically pair him with someone new as his OTP? Let's see him dating, with hot male candy on his arm.

I find it real, honest and sad, how much influence Lucious has over Cookie and his fiance. If those two women could just get over being jealous over each other and realize that they are wasting or have wasted their lives, trying to please him and work together on taking his triffling ass down, they would be so much better. Maybe I missed something, but does Andre's family know about his condition? Rhonda can't be the only one that knows or maybe she is and that's too much to handle without the support of the entire family! The little girl is so cute and if she really isn't biologically Jamal's daughter, he won't turn his back on her.

Proud of Jamal for coming out. He didn't do it for anyone but himself. Good advice from new guy Ryan, even though this moment has been brewing for weeks. Interesting to see him start to bond with his (presumed) daughter. I wonder how close they'll get. I hope Hakeem starts to get over his issues with his mom. I don't blame him for being upset, so hopefully Cookie's efforts will help to heal the rift between them. It's painful to watch Andre falling apart. He's right (IMO) that Lucious hates the fact that he doesn't have the same musical skill as Jamal and Hakeem. In that regard, Lucious is a terrible father. At the same time, Andre has been scheming behind everyone's back. He wants his father's approval so badly but isn't getting it. I don't particularly like Andre, but I hope he doesn't totally break. Which leads me to Lucious. I really don't like him; I don't see many (if any) redeeming qualities. He seems to have this picture of what he wishes his kids were like, to the point that he can't accept who they actually are. I get the feeling the only person he trusts to run Empire is himself. I don't even expect him to express love the way Cookie does, but some semblance of respect would be nice. He kind of seems to go there sometimes, but then reverses. Bah. Maybe I missed something, but does Andre's family know about his condition? Rhonda can't be the only one that knows or maybe she is and that's too much to handle without the support of the entire family! I get the impression that nobody knows except her.

I believe Vernon knows, but that doesn't mean much. It's funny that Lucious calls Andre divisive when no one divides in a deeper fashion than him. I don't see why he bothered engaging his sons in a race to run Empire when there's at least one character defining trait about them that would keep them out. Unless they become what he wants them to be, he'd have no use for them there at the top.

He keeps talking about, wanting his family to continue their legacy, but he'll eliminate, banish and kill anyone, that he considers to be a threat to him and HIS legacy. Look at his decision about the album. He doesn't want to do it, because he cannot accept that Jamal is living his truth and accept himself for being gay. That Andre has fallen in love and chose to marry that white girl. That Kareem is still having issues with how to deal with Cookie back in his life. All the above, are pretty ridiculous things for a grown man to not be able to deal with, in regards to his family and his legacy. Cookie's able to brush aside decades of hurt and betrayal from Lucious in letting her emotional go and rot in jail, so that he could let his career flourish and thrive.

Curiously that proved my point that people weren't annoyed with Jack Falahee for not answering the question about his sexual orientation but for his long and pointless rant about why he doesn't do it.
The interview with Jussie previous to the interview to his castmate, so maybe he changed his mind. If that's not the case his castmate should be more cautious when he talks about the private lifes of others
