I was initially thrilled to see a new gay male-led show (especially since the only other US broadcast network show with a gay male lead just got canceled) but then I remembered that this is the CW. They can barely do a good job with their gay male representation when he's a supporting character, so I'm skeptical that they've advanced so far as to write properly for him as the lead. I'm also a little surprised that it's not a Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa show that finally got this level of representation for us. Sadly though, I've not really been able to get into the main show so they'll have to really switch things up to get me on board as a fan.

I'm not really excited about it either (and I really enjoyed Nancy Drew, Tom Swift and the Hardy Boys books as a kid) - hence the lack of interest in starting a thread (especially when it hasn't even started filming yet). I also think the CW might find that switching the character up so much from the source material might lead to fewer viewers (though admittedly Tom Swift is one of those legacy properties that has not sparked much popular interest since the bulk of the books came out in the 50's) - so I kind of expect this to be a 1 season show.

The Amazon Prime series remake of I Know What You Did Last Summer has a gay regular character. But before you get too excited - Johnny (Sebastian Amoruso) dies in episode 2 - along with his boyfriend. They are the first victims of the serial killer. Bury Your Gays is alive and well, no pun intended.

I won't make a new thread since it's about a reality tv show, but there's a gay couple on Norway's Paradise Hotel is anyone is interested.

I'm putting this here because I've no idea how it'll pan out. I caught the season 2 premiere of Locke & Key on Netflix yesterday. For season 2, they upgraded the Locke children's gay uncle Duncan (Aaron Ashmore), who used to be a recurring character in season 1, to a series regular. His boyfriend Brian was mentioned a couple of times in season 1 but we see him for the first time in the season 2 premiere. Duncan and Brian are engaged to be married, but Brian is heading overseas and I have no idea if we'll see him again this season. The show has already been renewed for a third season and I think they were filmed back to back. The show also stars out actor Connor Jessup as Duncan's elder nephew Tyler (who is straight).

I watched S2. Brian showed up for the first episode then never seen again afterwards. Only a few mentions. The uncle Duncan was much more present this season though. Since S3 was filmed back to back, I hope this means Brian will show up more in S3. Otherwise, it would be a little pointless to cast someone just to use them for a single scene.

Yes I'm curious how things will develop in S3. Brian and Duncan are supposed to marry at Keyhouse when Brian gets back from Japan. Also, the season had a lot of cast exits, which I'm not sure are permanent or not. Hopefully not such a long wait for S3.

I won't make a new thread for it since it's just a reality show, but Below Deck will FINALLY have a gay storyline (romance?) this season, aka season 9.
Spoiler:
Fraser and Jake kissed in the season preview.

There's also a new Spanish HBO series Todo lo otro premiering today which is led by a transwoman and includes a gay kiss between male characters in the trailer. Not sure how much of a story it will be. Fans of Elite may recognize Miguel Bernardeau (Guzman) in one quick scene.

Ordinary Joe, which stars James Wolk as the title character living three versions of his life, has a gay relationship between Eric (out actor Charlie Barnett) and Sai (Rushi Kota). The boys got a bit more drama in the most recent Thanksgiving episode, although I can't say I'm thrilled with what they chose that subplot to revolve around. Here's an interview with Charlie on the story: www.tvinsider.com/1022953/ordinary-joe-season-1-episode-9-eric-sai-hiv-charlie-barnett/

I Know What You Did Last Summer has been cancelled on Amazon Prime after just one season. It won't be missed since it was probably a strong contender for the worst gay representation of any show besides Riverdale.

I debated whether to start its own thread but figured that, based on the gay arc we got in season 1, it wasn't worthy of its own thread yet. Maybe if it's renewed for a second season and they actually focus on the gay character's perspective instead of using him to advance a heterosexual couple.
Netflix has a new Brazilian youth drama called Summer Heat (Temporada de Verão) which came out today. There's a rather obvious gay character by the time episode 2 rolls around. But he's at best a tertiary lead without a love life of his own; instead his entire arc during season 1 was in service of getting a straight couple together. And then there's a particularly insulting twist at the end of episode 5 which leads to his exit, although he does return in the season finale.

Peacemaker, the James Gunn-helmed, John Cena-starring streaming show based on the DC Comics character, has winked and nodded about Peacemaker's sexuality, including his implying he had sex with men in prison, then having him have a threesome (unseen, of course) with a woman and a man (Vigilante, who idolizes him). The new episode gives a stronger wink, as Peacemaker's father, a hatemonger, while beating him, berates him for sleeping with non-white women, then mentions men as well. Peacemaker never denies any of this, nor does he act ashamed of it.
Similar to Deadpool, winking and nodding when you know you will never be seeing anything onscreen is not something worth cheering, but still, it's worth me acknowledging here.
And at least, unlike Deadpool, there was no "comedy" scene about how painful and horrible it is for him to be anally penetrated.

It would be cool if they properly acknowledged the male lead of a show like this being bi/pansexual, but I suspect they won't ever explore it onscreen since the principal audience for this is still straight men, many of whom will switch off if, God forbid, they caught sight of their idol getting it on with another dude. I don't remember Deadpool having sex with another guy?

Immigrants is a new series on Hulu - has Andrew Rannells and Murray Bartlett as a couple. The series appears to be about the origin of the Chippendales. tvline.com/2022/02/10/andrew-rannells-immigrant-chippendales-series-hulu/Edited to add - I am putting this here instead of in the upcoming projects because I don't know how much screen time the pair are going to have.

I don't remember Deadpool having sex with another guy? He didn't. I was talking about the pegging scene with his girlfriend, which always annoyed me, because Ryan Reynolds went around talking up the character's free sexuality, then in the movie you had something that could have been dumped from an '80s teen comedy. I don't think they are going to go any further either. His love interest on the show, if it lasts another season anyway, is likely to be female. From what James Gunn has apparently said in interviews, in the Suicide Squad movie from last year, John Cena had come up with a lot of crude sexual comments (not his exact words) which mostly had to be cut out of the film. In this show, they seem to have reframed the narrative from him essentially being a psycho version of Jack Harkness to having his identity as another symbol of his father's hatred for him. His father was a white supremacist and child abuser who forced Peacemaker and his brother to fight to the death. Peacemaker was obsessed with making his father love him. In this episode, after he finally sees just how evil and dangerous his father is - and after his father goes on a long rant which ends with calling him the f-slur - Peacemaker kills him. James Gunn also liked a tweet which linked to an article about Peacemaker being bi, so that means it can't just be written off as being a joke or part of his father's delusions. I guess I will take the moment as more of a finger in the eye to all the comic fans out there who idealize bigotry than a step forward for true representation, but it's more than I thought we'd get from this universe. I hope someday it might lead to the DCEU continuing to take more risks against the status quo.

Some gay storylines I found on Youtube. I have no idea how much they're featured, so I post them here instead of making new threads for the shows. Would be nice with some information if people here know more about the storylines.

From what I understand of the comic book material the show is based on, Duncan's role has been significantly expanded for the show. His boyfriend Brian was actually gay-bashed in the comic, so I'm relieved that on Netflix his character is just overseas rather than in a hospital.

There are a couple of episodes in the newly released Brazilian Netflix series Maldivas that deals with a gay relationship. The couple have some pretty sexy scenes.
