I liked Rafe's "coming out" scene. As others have mentioned, he wasn't actually coming out like, for the first time or anything. Just to a couple characters and the audience. And that's what we gay people do. We don't come out once in our lifetimes. We come out many times over the years. Every time we move, or make new friends, or at new jobs...etc...etc...
I'm an older gay guy, in my 40's and while I give props to ATWT and the whole Nuke thing, I have no interest whatsoever in them. I do not relate to high school/ college angst much anymore.
Plus I'm not a big fan of the acting skills of either gentleman or the writing of the show.
So, I'm all for more and more gay storylines, and hope that this new gay character , Rafe, gets one that will interest me.
In the "coming out" clip, I thought JT's reaction was interesting, not for what he said, but the way the actor looked at Rafe.
I would place bets that JT just may be the one Rafe gets involved with.
We'll see.

We'll see. I have never seen the show before but that scene totally gave me the same idea about "JT". Also, the actor, Thad Luckinbill has played a gay character before (which shouldn't matter but often does). I thought JT's reaction was a mixture of surprise and intrigue. I really liked the actor playing Rafe and I'd be into seeing another US soap with a regular gay character. |

Spoiler/Rumor about Rafe's love interest:
Somebody over at the SoapCentral Y&R forum claims a studio insider reveals that Rafe's love interest will be the returning Phillip Chancellor IV (the newly cast John Driscoll, ex-Coop, Guiding Light). Because of this source, I can't confirm, and there's no official word yet, so file it under "rumor" as of yet.
If you're wondering who Phillip Chancellor IV is: the son of the late Phillip Chancellor III (played in the 80s by gay actor Thom Bierdz) and Nina Webster; Phillip III was the son of Jill Foster and Phillip Chancellor II; Phillip III died in an automobile accident after marrying Nina; a few years ago, however, it was revealed that Katherine Chancellor--Phillip II's stepmother, who hated Jill--had switched the babies; Phillip III's body was exhumed and DNA tests proved that he was not Jill's son; Jill tracked down her real son, Cane Ashby, who's now a major character in Genoa City; meanwhile, Nina managed to retain her relationship with Katherine (she was recently at Katherine's wedding); Phillip IV is currently in the military and serving in Iraq--he's scheduled to return sometime in June.

for it to be Philip as Jon Driscoll is delicious (and he's played gay before) and he can act. But I don't think it's him. The show is busy trying him out with all young women on the show. And like you mentioned we won't be seeing him until June. Y&R's other gay is rumored to be coming out sometime this month. I still have my suspicions about who it is. And I don't think it's Adam. Though there are a lot of fans out there pushing for a Rafe/Adam pairing. But Adam is decidedly going to be a villian. Are people ready for a bad boy who just happens to be gay?

Thank you for the info. I like the idea, the actor is really handsome. I've never thought J.T. would be the one rather I thought he would be involved in a new love triangle with Coleen and Victoria.

I still hope it's true, tho!You can find a large number of photos of the actor, John Dricsoll, via googling. He was on another soap, Guiding Light, for a while playing the character of Coop Bradshaw. Fairly good amount of pictures because of that role floating around. |

Well it seems that Y&R bet on this storyline, wich is very good, i think they only need that both actors have good chemistry, i think that's the more important to make work a couple storyline in a soap (Jake Silberman wasn't exactly the best of actors, but he always have a good chemistry with Van).
I think it will be really good if this couple work, whit Nuke success, if the Y&R gay couple succeed, probably more soaps introduce gay characters.
One gay couple success could be a question of lucky, but two means that there are an audience who want to watch this kind of storylines

I cannot for the life of me figure out who Rafe's love interest is going to be.
Rafe looks good out of a suit!
Why has Adam gone this route? It's really disappointing. I don't like Ashley, but she and Estella are his only supporters in that house. Yet he's done them both a terrible wrong. They've made him so cruel, not even a hint of remorse, just bald-faced lying while he tries to drive Ashley mad, kill his own unborn half-sibling, and make Estella lose a job she's had for years. I really hope Rafe is not going to fall in love with him, especially since Estella is his aunt.

"I can assure you this story is much more complicated and complex than you guys can imagine. Well, maybe not. LOL! But it's good. Remember — [headwriters] Maria [Arena Bell] and Hogan [Sheffer] are all about bait and switch. Maybe there are four gay people in Genoa City. Maybe three. Maybe six. Wait until this summer.
