I guess it has it's pros and cons. Now they can put characters in comas, in jail, in rehab... And not just when a character really leaves the show. I also think it can be a good thing sometimes when characters are off the canvas for some time.

The show has a promo for the coming weeks. A police detective comes to Meerdijk to investigate Danny's accident (which was caused by Aysen). What I noticed is that this police detective, Menno Kuiper, has a major part in this promo. Could this also be Lucas' new love interest? The promo can be found in the video section of GTST.nl. On my PC the video doesn't work, but I was able to watch it on my iPad.

It only works on my iPad as well. First of all, thank god Aysen is finally going to get what she deserves! Detective Kuiper is doing what Jack should have done. I remember a scene where we saw Jack contemplating the circumstances of Danny's death, but it never went anywhere. Probably if Jack had stayed he'd be following up on those initial thoughts and launching the investigation.

Could this be Lucas' new love interest? Maybe so! We know Lucas is going to have interaction with him. One of the spoilers suggests Aysen is going to try to keep Lucas quiet so maybe Menno has to rescue Lucas and protect him from Aysen. Hmm... If he's gay, Menno is probably out and very confident, so he would be very different from Edwin and Bilal. A gay cop... yeah, that works for me... I bet he has a child.

Now I'm going to be so heartbroken if he isn't the guy. I already totally approve. He'd be everything I wanted for Lucas.

And I think it fits, as he'd work as kind of a replacement for Aysen, and introducing him earlier in the week in another story is better for him as a character and lets it be a twist. And it makes sense with Lucas becoming involved in the Aysen plot and he and Menno already being interactions.

It even works with the spoilers. Maybe Lucas reads Menno as straight (and might already know he has a child and assumes from that?) and there might be a personal advantage to getting him and Wiet together, so when Lucas tries to set them up, Menno sets him straight about his sexuality, and Menno being hot and a cop, its a no brainer then that Lucas can barely keep his hormones in check.

When I saw the promo he looked familar, but it took me some time to remember where I had seen him. It was in the movie De Groeten van Mike:



He appears briefly at 0:11 and 0:56.

But he's definitely someone that must be joining the cast too, I'm sure, so he must be Lucas' guy. And it's great that Ferry's already said he met his new love interest and likes him.

But... it is interesting that he's so heavily featured in that promo. I'm optimistic.

After seeing the promo description (thanks
for that, Mark!!!), I'm really excited for Lucas
and Menno. I have no doubt he's for Lucas
and if he won't be on contract, he'll still be
important for awhile IMO. The first thing in
the promo is Menno introducing himself to the
viewer. He seems to me to be filling the detective
space left by Jack. And I wonder if he and Lucas
will be a variation of Jack and Lorena. I can't
wait for this. Yay!!!!

If he joins the cast and gets involved with Lucas, I bet he'll be bisexual. Much more possibilities for the writers.

This sounds really great.
A character integrated in the cast and with possible storylines in different paths will be great, because that could make their storylines converge and separate, and open a lot of possible storylines

I really hope he isn't bisexual, although I could
understand the writers doing that. But, I can't see
Lucas becoming involved knowingly with a bi-sexual
male. He's had enough dealings with women being
involved with the men in his life.

Yeah, if Menno isn't going to be closeted in any way, then they'll have to have some other relationship angst, which I'm willing to bet would have to do with his being in law enforcement, and if he might have a child. Even if they did make him bisexual, it's not like there's likely to be any triangle drama, so what would be the point. I don't see either of them falling in love with or getting mixed up with other people, I just can't see it. Lucas always loves with his whole heart in a relationship, and I can't see them doing that to Lucas if Menno were to possibly be that interested in anyone else. Not after the Ed/Ron stuff. Menno will love him as much as he deserves.
Maybe eventually there'll be a falling out that has them considering other people or something though. Maybe Menno has an ex/baby-mama that'll want to get back together.

But we get ahead of ourselves. Let's just see who Menno is first. But he looks adorable and bearish and I'm imagining the cuddles already ;D

Mark,your optimism is contagious!.....Some speculations....
From the photo he is Hot....then we know he is older than Lucas(i like this Stuff because it opens to such a lot of plot devices....),he is a cop.... and i hope he is out and proud! Lucas,now, deserves to be loved openly and all the drama problems that will come(if it is true i am thinking to the cliffhanger).....i hope will let us enjoy ,despite all, a beautiful love story!....

On GTST.nl there's now a link to the promo on the main page (it's also working on my PC now). They describe the promo there with "New blood".


In other news: Mike will leave GTST temporarily at the beginning of 2014. Louis Talpe will take that time to rehearse for a musical in Belgium.

I always want to be careful with these things. In the past my speculation has been seen as something that was definitely going to happen.

I can't get excited yet but I'm so intrigued. Can't wait to see the next adventure of the heart for Lucas.

We might get confirmation later today. Tonight Wednesday's episode will become available on GTST.nl for €0,99. Lucas (and Menno?) might be in the preview for Thursday. The only thing is... I will be at a movie theater when that episode appears online at 8PM. I expect to be home at 9PM. So I will post about it at least an hour after the episode is online. Unless of course someone else has seen it.
