So glad you guys were able to see the play and provide a report! Is the play in Spanish? Do we get to see the picture of Bernat and Patty?
I can't say I understand the connection with the pieta -- except that I think the statue is very moving and very sad.
Also interesting to see Marc with his family -- what a talented group.
As always, thank you so much for keeping us updated! Hope you are enjoying the summer.

hi! Bernatfan, yes, how he has changed! But he's now in that bad time when they're growing up, as it happened with Bernat. I hope to see him as Bernat in his best time (from the point of his appearance), when he did BCN Ciutat Neutral. Well, now he has a beard, but surely it's because the play (all of the youngsters of Verona have it). Prodigius, the producer of Bernat's miniseries, has sent via FB the clip of the making of with the character Karl Estruc (Bernat). I think it's the begining of its difussion campaing, so it will come soon, I think in the middle of September, when people came back from their hollidays. About Bernat's hair, it's interesting the video making of with the hairdresser. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKl-uKBLD4I&NR=1He says it was difficult to do the hairdressing of a movie with 78 actors and more of 800 extras. And more, an historical movie! They have respected the hairdressing of that time, but not the typical ones. Each character has the hair of his/her personality, and for example, Karl hasn't the tipical male hairdressing of a young man of his class in that time, but the one that reflects his rebellious and bohemian personality. He also says he feared about what would happen when the girls untie their hair in the hot scenes, because women in that time had their hair very long, loger than now (and I supose they wear hair extensions). But the result has been great. At the end, he talks about a scene made by a stuntman, instead Bernat when his character has a fight with another one in the port of Barcelona and falls into the sea. The hairdresser says they did for the stuntman a wig similar to Bernat's hair (and they dried him quickly becaus it was winter and cold). |

Dorothy, yes, the play is in Spanish. I think it's because it will be performed in Madrid short after, in August. And for the actors is the best, I think for two reasons: first, because they don't have to learn the text in two languages, when Madrid's perfomances are so soon. And because most of the cast is very young and perhaps for some of them it's the first time they play in Spanish.
For example, the actors that play the servants had a strong Catalan accent. Of course, it's suposed they're the worst ones, and the other ones haven't that accent. But for all of them, it's better to go to Madrid trained in speaking the play in Spanish. The main actress, Carlota Olcina, did already a main character in a Spanish soap, and the first day in that series she had some difficulties with her speaking Spanish.
I think this is the main reason, because the play is coproduced by the theater where they play in Madrid (Teatro Español).
Another reason could be that the other coproducer is the Barcelona summer festival, Grec'11. And as a summer festival, it's more opened to the turists and a good part of the festival is played in Spanish, because there are also Spanish plays that came to Barcelona.
Patty is living now in Barcelona for a year. She has get now her internet connection and i supose she will explain her opinion about the play and Bernat.
The poster with the Pieta, the director said it represents the kind of love and personality of Romeo and Juliet. Because both are teen and immature at the begining of the play. But Romeo remains always teen, and Juliet matures with all what happened to her. So, in the director's opinion, the real main character of the play is Juliet, and this is the reason for him to change the title (Julieta & Romeo instead of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet). Romeo and Juliet love each other, but really for Romeo. Juliet is more a mother than his wife. And for Juliet, Romeo es more her son than her husband.
That doesn't means that the director has made many changes in the story. In fact, this version has the full Shakespearian tragedy. He said that the "romantic" versions forget things like Romeo, at the begining of the play, was in love with another girl, Rosalina; and that Juliet's father wanted to impose her another husband, Paris, and she had to fight against her father's will. And Romeo is so stupid to kill Julieta's cousin!
Of course, there are also comercian reasons! The director says that at the begining, he put Julieta's name before because women are the main audience of theaters ("there aren't groups of men in their thirties that went together to the theatre, as ithappens with women"). But when he dept into the play, he understood it's really Juliet the main character in the play.
Something similar happened with the poster. It's the strongest and best one of all the festival. I think they wanted to atract people's atention over a play started by not very known actors. It's the contribution of the festival to the young talented people of the country.

Hi everybody! Thanks bernatfan for the pictures. He really has changed! I prefer the younger Juli. Well, about the play, Carmela has said everything already I think. We had a great time. Okay, it was hard for me listening to Spanish for like 3 hours but I understood more than I expected, you know? Really have to learn some Spanish while I'm here. I think the guy who played Romeo was a little nervous maybe, right? Because he said "Adeu" instead of "Adios". Or was that in the script? I think the reason you layed out why the play is in Spanish are right. I think too that it has to do with the GREC being international. Remember how I told you on the forum that I think they will do a Spanish version only if they go on to Madrid later? I was right. Well, all the actors where great. Especially Mercutio and the father of Romeo. And Bernat's role, Benvolio, I liked how he was serious in some parts and then all the jokecracker again. From the scenary I liked the cementery scenes best  After the theatre play we talked with Bernat for a moment, like Carmela explained already. Oh, I asked him the question wether or not he knows English... Well, I'm sorry guys, but he told me : "Very little. I know more German than English." Well, lucky me  He was charming as always, just looked different. Everytime I see him he looks different, or so it seems.^^ First time short hair and cap... Second time just breathtaking gorgeous like in the miniseries without a single hair of beard Third and fourth time...little beard and moustache... and now fifth time...a lot of beard... But I think you are right with what you say about the beard...every guy in the play has one and in Girona he commented that the moustache was just from Les Tres Germanes...He just had to grow himself more beard for plays Another thank you for explaining that stuff from the videos of BCN-ciutat neutral...Understood a lot but not everything... Like I told you on the other forum, I asked Prodigius when we will be able to watch the trailer and they said that soon we can. Now we just have to wait and see how soon soon is  I have a feeling that they show the preview maybe on the very last days of July and then after August break they will show it like you said around the Diada. hI! I hope to see the trailer really soon. About the other thing Bernat is doing, Julieta & Romeo, thanks to the Erika's japanese blog we have a fantastic review, that talks about differents faces of the perfomance, and specially the work of each actor, starting with the young people (with their birth date). For example, he thinks Bernat's acting is marvellous, and that he's one of the best young actors in the Catalan stage. I think he has watched Bernat in other plays, and likes him. Well, his favorite actors (among the young ones) are who played Romeo and Mercutio, but they're also artists that create and direct their own plays, so there isn't any comparation with them! Most of the people that has given some opinion about the play, think more o less the same way about all the actors that do this play. The interviewer is special (I think he's someone of the 15M Movement (Spanish Revolution), and is interested because this perfomance has a social goal (they sell very cheap tikets to people that want go to, but haven't enough money, because it's a project called "Platea social"; and most of the actors are young people that start in their profession and this is a great oportunity for them). In the interview, the actors explain more or less what I have said about this perfomance. That Juliet is the main character in the original Shakespeare's play, and it isn't s sweet play at all, Juliet is only 13, but is so strong to opose her father's will, and to go on in a relationship with someone of the enemy, We can easily think what happens in places as Irak, to understand how brave is that girl. Yes Keith, now I read some review of the play and know that it is some kind of joke for the audience. I loved the play, even though it was harder than the Catalan plays for me.^^ You went to watch it, too? That's cool! When? Hope you had a great time there... A scene of Julieta & Romeo played in a square of Mataró, a town near Barcelona, two weeks ago. It was a kind of protest of the play's cast and crew. In Mataró there was a Shakespeare's Festival that was one of the coproducers of the play, and that day they were playing it. But the new authorities of the City Hall, that hac been just elected, suspended the festival 11 days before his begining to cut expenses. Well, there are other ways to save money! We have this pic thanks to Erika's japanese blog. Thanks, Erika!  In the scene, Belvolio has Mercutio dead in his lap, killed in the fight against Teobald, Julieta's cousin. And for this reason Romeo fights too with Teobaldo (and he killes him and have to leave Verona). |

BERNAT Today (rigth now), Julieta & Romeo has its premiere in Madrid. This is an adv. in Madrid:  MARC La voz dormida (The sleeping voice) competes in the official section of the San Sebastian Film Festival. Paulino and Pepita, love in a kitchen in the sad times of the post civil war in Spain.  Good luck! The premiere of the movie will be in this festival (September 18 to 24); and then, it's in time to compete for being chosen as the Spanish movie to go to the Oscars for the best non English movie. I think against Almodovar's The skin where I live, with Antonio Banderas (it will be shown in all the world next September first). The selection will be made at the end of that month. |

NEWS ABOUT BERNAT We still don't know when " Barcelona, ciutat neutral" will be aired (I think around September 11, but I can be wrong). But we have some news about a new project. Marina Raurell, a theater photographer, has written a message in Eva's Iagomax forum. She says she has found it and thanks us for the way we're spreading Julieta&Romeo. Also gives a link with her FB page because she has made an album about this play, Inside Julieta & Romeo, the play seen from the backstage and the dressing rooms. She says Bernat shared dressing room with Marcel Borràs (Romeo). It was the nearest room to the stage and actors went there when they were out of scene. Another dressing room was shared by Nao Albet (Mercutio), Pol Lòpez (Tibald) and Ivan Morales (Paris). About the last one, Pau at El Cor, well, this photographer made his book. She has some information about him and Bernat. We know Ivan isn't doing the Madrid perfomances of the play. Instead, Paris is being performed by another El Cor actor, Josep Puig, who played the Eli's brother, Ros. She explained the reason. Ivan has many projects (we know he's shooting a series for Antena 3, "Gran Hotel", a love story in the begining of the XX century that remembers me Barcelona ciutat neutral). And in one of these projects, Bernat takes part and soon we will see him. It's all what we know now, but I hope she (or another person) let we know it soon. Ivan Morales has writen and directed theater and some short films, so it can be theater or a short movie. |

INSIDE JULIETA & ROMEO, the backstage by Marina Raurell. She's the "comunity manager" of this play (I think she spreads it). And she has written another message in the iagomax forum about the Ivan/Bernat thing. It's a short movie that Ivan shoted and now is in the postproduction. I has readed the script and seems good. And there is a scene in wich a perfomance of J&R appears.    |

You're wellcome, Dorothy. I think we should begin seing the trailer of Ciutat Neutral about september first, to watch the series in the midldle of september. Here it's used to begin the campaing of a series on TV two or three weeks before its airing. So if I'm right, soon we will see the trailer. We have got more information given by Marina. About Ivan Morales's short movie. It was thought as a way to spread the theater play Ivan wrote and directed, "Sé de un lugar" (in Spanish). it was stared by Xavi Sáez (who plays one of the servants of Capuleto House in J&R) and Anna Alarcón, who played the female main character in Lleons, with Bernat. The main character in the short is the same Xavi. But well known actors and actresses do some scenes in it, the same people who went to the theater to see Ivan's play. Among them, there are people like Roger Coma, Aina Clotet (Marc's sister) and Bernat (there are two hamsome young men in the script!). And also another J&R actor, Pol López (Tybald). After Marina, this last one does a great work in the short. Another curious thing of the short is, there is a scene shoted in the Coliseum theater of Barcelona, during a perfomance of R&J. This short seems a Marina's idea for spread the both things! Unfortunately, Marc didn't take part in the short. We should be glad to see Marc and Bernat acting together another time! She also has some news about Marc. He was in the row after her in the premiere of Julieta and Romeo in Barcelona. And she said his wedding was short after and almost all the cast of the play went to it because Marc's sister, Aina, is the partner of Marcel Borràs, who plays Romeo. So in a indirect way, Marc and Bernat have now a link, and it isn't completly sure, but I think Bernat went to the Marc's wedding. PE: I post the link with an article in Spanish of a newspaper, "Diario de Córdoba", about Pepa, the lady that inspired the main character of La Voz Dormida. You saw the latest videos they uploaded? About costume/clothes, photografy, director and production? And everytime a tinny new clip of the series I think it's great that Marina entered the forum. Now we get a lot of insider knowledge XD And about the promotion, I thought the same, even though I didn't know how the subject is handled here...in Germany it's pretty much the same...and once they start promoting it they will put the poster somewhere, right? Hi! There aren't news about the airing of BCN Ciutat Neutral. But Marc goes on with its movies. We have another trailer of La Voz Dormida, that opens in San Sebastian film festival, next September 21th. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW50uXAhVMwAnd Marc is shootting another movie, "La Estrella", the story of Estrella, a woman who searchs the happiness and lives in a neighborhood of curious and colored buildings in Santa Coloma de Gramanet, a town in the north of the great Barcelona. Like in La Voz Dormida, the main characters are two women, and Marc plays the main male character. And, like Zambrano's movie, it talks about the real life of real working class people. I like it. It's the first movie of its director, but all the main actors are good and well known in Spain. And the two main actresses are very good. This is the web page, that I like very much. Seems to be great, and people who has watched it says that the actress that plays Pepita has an amazing acting. Hi everybody ...Thanks sooo much Carmela for posting the link...well, I just found the video myself, but you were quicker this time You know what? Yesterday I decided that I was tired of waiting for that "stupid" miniseries...and now...well, I can't help it....OMG...I NEED TO WATCH IT!!! And even more if we don't have Berny in theatre this fall...so now we just need a date for the airing... I have a feeling that they will do a pre sceening like they did with all the other miniseries of TV3, too...That would be cool to watch it in cinema, like a real movie...Bernat on the big screen...I know I'm a day dremer I think the reason why they posted this trailer now is because we are getting nearer to the airing date...at least I hope that's the reason... And now we kinda know what the relationship between Karl and Maria is like...interesting... And we know we have a bed scene XD Well, we knew it already, couldn't help myself to write this^^ Carmela, did I get that right? Of course Karls father isn't happy with his son liking the sindicalist girl...but this other woman of the higher class...is she supposed to marry Karl? If it is like that, it is exactly what I thought before seeing this... And I still think that Berny has never been more beautiful then here/Tiana and that Maria sings wonderfully. About Marc...really excited to watch the Sleeping voice as well! Looks amazing...maybe I turn from a Berny lover to a Marc lover after seeing his movie...but I doubt it XD Great week end to everybody, Patty |

Thanks for the info Carmela, can't believe I will be able to see La Voz Dormida in London. Although, at the price of transport in UK, and hotels in London, would probably be cheaper to come and see it in Spain! Will be looking forward to seeing Marc in something other than El Cor, having seen Bernat in theatre a few times now. Still working on my Spanish, which is even less good than my Catalan, Julieta y Romeo notwithstanding. Can't wait though for BCN ciutat neutral, have been looking forward to that for months. Will have to watch it online though, so fingers crossed they don't restrict it to Spain only.

elcormaxfan, I doubt it that you will only be able to watch the miniseries in the Catalan zone.
on the official site it gets very clear that the series has international interest...but who knows...
Can you watch TV3 from England? My friend in Germany can.
I doubt that they will show it en directe in the internet, but you sure will be able to watch it.
Well, my Spanish is worse than my Catalan, too. ^^

Patty, what woman talk you about? The woman that his family wanted him to marry is Pilar , the girl who appears in minute 4'56. But his father says that a year ago Karl agreed, but now it's different (of course Gloria, that seems the first time Karl is really in love). Madelaine (minute 6'07) seems to me too old for marry him; in this time wifes used to be younger than husbands, and the man in the library says to Gloria that Karl is been married to a upper class "girl" (noia). Madelaine isn't a girl at all! She first appears in minute 5'19 related to the spy story. I think she's a lover he met when he did that stuff of spying. And the upper class girl that seems he has to marry at the end, we still dont know if it's the same Pilar of the begining, or another gilr (I wouldn't like to be in her skin, because of course Karl doesn't love her, but it isn't clair he marries at the end, only he leaves Barcelona -and Gloria-; sad end!).
Well, how many women? Pilar, Maria, Gloria, Madelaine... Well, he's very handsome! And I agree, Patty. Bernat never has been so beautiful as in Tiana, when he shoted this series. So it wasn't strange not to take photos! We were paralysed!
Keith, pity it seems Bernat isn't been playing theatre this fall, you would come to Spain to see him and watch Marc in The Sleeping Voice.

Hi everyone! Well, yes Carmela, I meant Pilar...When I wrote that I hadn't seen the trailer that often...now I have... I really like the bonding that Karl and Maria seem to have...best friends and a little more^^ I think it's interesting... And I know I said it before but I love the music we got to know already from the series, especially the songs which sings Maria, and my favorite is the one at the bone fire on the port. Yes, of course he now doesn't want to marry Pilar at all...she seems a little strange to me, or just normal shy^^...In that class you don't let love decide who you marry...she seems to be younger then Karl, too...like you said, normal in that days... Madeleine...well, yes, I think she is married already actually. Because when she trys to tease Karl doesn't she say something about desire and that it doesn't know faithfulness? She is an actress from Portugal and she speaks Spanish in her role, so I didn't catch that so well...  I think he has an affair with her but nothing more. And things seem to get very dangerous...just understood that she said "I'm sorry" and he made such a face... I actually like the idea of him falling in love for the first time and then with the "wrong" girl. Bernat and Nausicaa seem to have wonderful chemistry on screen right? Aww, those glazes he gave her... I think that Pilar is at least some part of the story because in the cast list you don't just fine her but her parents, too. Just a feeling.. And I figured out that it will be a sad ending...I understood the letter to well *sniff* If I understood it right, then Daniel is waiting for a death sentence and Karl is asking his father to do something so that won't happen and in return he says he won't come back ever to Barcelona. Did I get that right? There is one funny thing in the trailer. The first German sentence, the long one, they put Catalan subs on the first half but the second more difficult half doesn't have them XD... Another thing I wanted to ask you... I went to the Parc de la Ciutadella today and saw the acts, music, etc...really AMAZING! I sang the Catalan anthem, too There was one actress Àngels Poch...that is the one who did Lleons with Bernat in 2009, right? Wasn't she the mother of that girl in the wheel chair? Just wondering... Listening to Roger Mas was great , too Okay, let's all wait for the date of Ciutat neutral...if it gets half as good as Les veus del Pamano, then I'm happy...I have no doubt about that...I mean the lead is great ;D hugs, Patty |
