Update from someone who skimmed the new Rebelde: - No gay male pairing, only lesbians. - Female nudity (only) in a straight sex scene. I won't be watching. Didn't they film Season 1 and 2 back to back? So that might explain why nothing happened. They obviously did advertise Sebas and Lukas based on unconfirmed spoilers. Something might happen between them on season 2. I might give the show a chance. It's something different than the usual stuff Netflix puts out. I do hope they give Luka a gay storyline soon though. Happy to see lesbian representation on a show too.

Happy to see lesbian representation on a show too. This is the first I'm hearing of them filming two seasons back to back. The internet just says it's not renewed for season 2 yet. Netflix Mexico has done back-to-back filming, for example Who Killed Sara?, but the first season ended with a full trailer of the second season. Just to be clear, I have nothing against the lesbian couple, LGBTQ+ representation is always good, but the show should not have consider it as precluding a gay male couple. We're not interchangeable, and I'm sure a freakin' high school musical show would not be risking its ratings by having more than one same-sex couple. Mexico was doing so well, too; the Aristemo spin-off was a high point, not just for Mexico, but the world. And then their gay male representation just dropped off a steep cliff - erased from genres where they belong or relegated to supporting characters who aren't even permitted to kiss.

I just assumed they did film the seasons back to back because there were reports Netflix were considering giving it a season 3. I know they did it with Who Killed Sara and Elite by filming them back to back. I do see what you're saying about the obvious Sebas / Luka bait they gave us. I did see chemistry between them but Sebas is a nasty guy so maybe it is better Luka dodged that trainwreck (for now anyway). If the spoiler was made up then it shows poor form from writers as it is a more interesting storyline than what they gave us. One of the main criticisms of the show is it was boring and I tend to agree. I don't want teen shows to be consistently dark like Elite have tried to do and did like the fresh concept Netflix were going for here. The main thing going for the show is the lesbian storyline and I did like Luka / Esteban being brothers along with the friend Dixon thinking Esteban liked Luka which was funny. Other than that I think it did struggle as the storylines were just too safe. They can do both by having strong storylines and have the musical aspect also. It is No.1 in Brasil ATM so I am sure it will be renewed again.

Still pissed that they teased us though. I seriously wonder if the gay pairing was the plan but they chickened out? The lesbian pairing doesn't make any sense. Also, this sucks because there are just SO many lesbians on tv already, yet hardly any gay male characters. I got my hopes up for this for nothing. I won't be watching either.

Disney+ has ordered Percy Jackson and the Olympians to series. Author Rick Riordan will pen the pilot script. This is worth mentioning here because the third book onwards includes LGBTQ+ characters, but not as a lead character until much later. Given how Disney+ got cold feet over including Love, Victor on its slate (resulting in it being shafted to Hulu, which ultimately may have been a blessing in disguise), I wonder how inclusive the final product will be, if we ever get to that point. (Some may remember the first two books were adapted for the big screen with Logan Lerman in the title role. Neither of those films, nor the books on which they were based, had any LGBTQ+ characters.) www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a38931501/percy-jackson-tv-series-disney-rick-riordan-pilot/

Here's another teen musical series from Latin America (this time Argentina) - Cielo Grande, which is being titled in English as Secrets of Summer (although the Spanish title actually translates as Big Sky). After the dismal Rebelde reboot, I don't know if we dare to hope for any meaningful gay male representation ...

Putting this here as it may be relevant to the proposed All My Children primetime reboot that's in the works, Pine Valley. Eric Nelsen who played teen AJ Chandler in the Prospect Park version revealed that his legacy character was due to come out as gay before the show was cancelled for a second time back in 2013. However, it's worth noting that Pine Valley is supposed to focus on the Kane and Santos families; there's no mention of the Chandlers despite their core family status. And the Kanes, of course, famously include lesbian Bianca, US daytime's first major character to identify as LGBTQ+ more than 20 years ago, so if she's on canvas and the show treats LGBTQ+ representation as a zero sum game, they might not include gay male characters, too. www.soapcentral.com/all-my-children/news/2020/1125-eric_nelsen_aj_chandler_gay.php

It looks like there will be LGBTQ+ representation on the upcoming Paramount Australia teen drama More than This, which debuts on March 4th. I guess it is the Aussie version of the short-lived HBO Max series Genera+ion in that it is also being promoted as "created by teens for teens" and touts a diverse cast. Hopefully it will have more longevity than Genera+ion though! Both the co-creators (one of whom, Luka Gracie, is trans/nonbinary) star in the series, which also includes Josh Heuston (soon to be soon in a queer role on the Heartbreak High revival coming to Netflix later this year) and Oisin O'Leary. Only a few character blurbs were released and the only one that makes an LGBTQ+ reference is for Luka's character, but my money is on there being a gay character, too - probably Oisin's - though I'm unsure how much of a presence/story he'll get since he doesn't seem to be one of the leads. if.com.au/olivia-deeble-and-luka-gracies-more-than-this-to-stream-on-paramount/Teaser: http://instagram.com/p/CZ0721hJW_L Cast pic: http://instagram.com/p/CW9nrDeJfu0

Zero gay characters in the trailer doesn't exactly give me much hope. Oh, I don't hope for too much but another Netflix Latin American series Summer Heat that had a very similar vibe also had no gay inkling in the trailer yet there did turn out to be a gay character on its regular cast - and that wasn't even a musical series. Unfortunately - I just skimmed the series and even my low hopes were misplaced. Not a single gay character. And for a series set during summertime at a beachside hotel, it was surprisingly tame, too. Like, none of the guys even took their shirts off to swim. Basically it was a dead loss.

Are there any Aussie members here with Paramount+ who can share if there's any significant gay male content on the teen drama More than This, which premiered the whole first season today? From the review, it sounds like only one very small part. Source: tvtonight.com.au/2022/03/more-than-this.htmlETA: There's apparently a small gay storyline involving the older characters, not any of the main teens.

HBO Max comedy Minx, centered on the workplace of a feminist porn magazine, ups its gay-interest factor (you know, beyond all the hunky naked male models) by including a gay photographer Richie (Oscar Montoya) on its cast. The half-hour comedy premieres this Thursday. www.rogerebert.com/streaming/minx-hbo-max-tv-review-2022

HBO drama Succession has received critical acclaim and strong ratings, but there is one element that is missing. One of the writers wanted to make Nicholas Braun's character Greg gay, but it fell through. She hints that another character Roman Roy (Kieran Culkin) could be pansexual or fluid, but does not make any commitment to it. So far now it's just speculation. More details here: www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a39430631/succession-cousin-greg-gay-storyline/

More details here: www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a39430631/succession-cousin-greg-gay-storyline/There has been a lot of fan speculation about Greg, because, beyond him not having any relationships or hookups in the first two seasons, they also had Shiv/Kendall/Roman's mother greet him by telling him that, years earlier, when she had known his father, he in so many words, got all the dick in Sausalito. Greg was bewildered. Of course anyone would be, hearing some strange, annoying woman bring that up, but it also seems like something you would not bring up unless it was going to lead to more (especially since Greg's father had long abandoned his wife, and Greg, before the show started). This was midway in the first season, with plenty of time to develop it. That has yet to happen - probably never will. This season, they suddenly had Greg interested in women, although it was very haltingly written - Greg has seemingly little interest in these women emotionally or even sexually, and is mostly interested in status. He wanted to date a woman who worked for his cousin to basically prove that he could get her. As soon as he did, even before anything sexual happened between them, he insisted he was bored, and began pursuing a contessa. The lines are blurred further because Nick Braun is, per the gossip sites, a bit of a player in real life, and he pretty clearly liked the actress who played the woman who worked for Greg's cousin - in various photos with her during filming, liking her social media posts (and she is a shitty person [one of the posts had her hugged up with Alex Jones], so he likely knew he would lose some fans for supporting her), and he also talked up t he relationship between their characters in interviews that went beyond anything shown onscreen. Greg's most popular, and most spotlighted, relationship on the show is with his boss, Tom. The relationship started out as Tom being a boss from hell and has steadily become much more codependent, and much more emotionally intimate. Matthew Macfadyen (Tom) had already fielded a lot of questions about who Tom's true partner is, and gone on about Greg being Tom's other wife, etc. but this past season they had a large expansion in airtime, as well as publicity (including the Entertainment Weekly quasi-couply photoshoot). I tend to wonder if Braun, or the show, threw in the relationships with women to be what I now see being called "comphet" - just to make sure viewers don't get too worried anything that is actually gay will happen. The same tends to go for Roman. They hint at him being interested in men, but his main relationships have been with women.

Playz, a youth-oriented platform in Spain, has a new teen drama called Ser o no ser (To be or not to be) debuting on March 30th. It's set in a drama class and there are five boys to three girls, so I'm wondering if there might be some gay male content. The central character is trans. http://instagram.com/p/CbKYj7att9q
