So Wtfock went from 2.5 million views in season 2 to 10 million views in 7 weeks of season 3. That is only 2nd to Skam France season 3 with 35 million views just on youtube alone.

So Wtfock went from 2.5 million views in season 2 to 10 million views in 7 weeks of season 3. That is only 2nd to Skam France season 3 with 35 million views just on youtube alone. That's impressive! And the same thing happened with the original norwegian SKAM- pretty average viewing figures with no interest much outside of Norway, then with the 3rd season and the two gay boys and WHAM! suddenly it became a world wide phenomenon. After the last few episodes, with the boys showering naked together in the hotel room, this strange message was posted by the translators of the belgian videos ( twitter @wtfockenglish ) "Please remember that this is a show about two teens and you shouldn't sexualize them. This story is about more than just two pretty boys making out. Same goes for the actors even if one of them is over 18 #wtfockon

I'm not surprised by those viewership numbers. There is so little gay representation of quality - where gay boys can actually be the lead of their own series - that there is a voracious appetite for the painfully few series that dare to go there. Congratulations to WTFock for hitting the milestone of 8 digits; while I still have some criticisms of how they've handled the storytelling this season, the fact that they kept this season centred on a gay male teen is worthy of kudos. I'm sure they were under intense pressure from certain activists to fall in line with the disrespectful and harmful trend of erasing their gay boys like Skam Espana and Austin have done, but they chose to reward loyal fans and give us the representation that is so sorely lacking and fervently hoped for.

I am getting the impression that a sizeable percentage of the viewers are young females, early teens around 15 years old- and many are from the far east -at least judging from the profiles on twitter and tumblr and the viewers making comments on YouTube. Do you have any evidence that it's more than this cohort of the population? I am searching but I'm not seeing many male names in the YouTube viewers Now the fact that most viewers of this drama are young females - avidly watching the love travails of two Western gay teenagers- is an interesting phenomenon in itself!! |

They say that over 450.000 people watch the show weekly… that’s a lot considering Belgium only has 11 million people and that the show comes on super late here!! He's a teenager who's been put through the wringer emotionally with his mother's mental health issues, his own struggles with mental health, the discovery of his boyfriend's mental illness topped off by some cruel manipulation by Britt. Give the boy a break. If people take this stance IRL, it'd be an even greater setback to someone with already fragile mental health.
