While I really am liking this storyline (chance to practice Spanish - ¡yay!), am I the only one who has misgivings about them making Diego bi?
Don't you think the writers might use this so they can show Diego with other girls, and only barely with Alejandro?

While I really am liking this storyline (chance to practice Spanish - ¡yay!), am I the only one who has misgivings about them making Diego bi? Don't you think the writers might use this so they can show Diego with other girls, and only barely with Alejandro? Well, considering that RP is a remake of FoQ, having Diego bi isn't surprising. If you've seen FoQ, David had girlfriends before Fer. However, David was gay, not bi. They've got Diego's description as a homophobe. But I'm sure once they get the storylines rolling, we'll see more of him and Ale. Right now I'm really hating Diego, especially because of his homophobic remarks. In FoQ, David didn't care that Fer was gay, and neither did Julio. But since we're talking about US/Mexico, there's still the conservative feeling of gay men, especially compared to Spain. Is it me or are they pushing the sensitivity of gay men too far? Fer was a strong person. He had a strong personality. But Alejandro seems to be fragile and very timid about things. Unfortunately, we haven't really seen much of him other than in the locker room and pining over Rodrigo, the use of the word "sensible," seems to be the word to describe gays. They used it for Sebastian, and for Alejandro.

They used it for Sebastian, and for Alejandro. Alejandro didn't totally come out of the closet yet, so maybe -in time- we'll see some changes in his personality. Declaring his love for Sebastian was a bold move, so I have faith he'll become a stronger guy. However, I don't think he'll be like Fer For me, it's ok they decided Ale should be this type of gay guy... Haven't we watched too many "butches" already?

For me, I don't even think of FOQ when I watch this show. To me, this is a whole new entity with a different format and theme so the expectations are completely different, not that I have expecations. I look at DR for what this show is, not in comparison to what the other show was.

To me, this is a whole new entity with a different format and theme so the expectations are completely different, not that I have expecations. I look at DR for what this show is, not in comparison to what the other show was. Exactly, Anthony! This, just this. People will only end up disappointed if they compare it to FOQ, it is not FOQ.. the Spanish FOQ is over, this is a new show, the only thing it share with FOQ is that it's inspired by the Spanish drama. I'd actually say there's more differences than similarities between the two shows, at least so far. When it comes to Alejandro, sure, he is portrayed as a sensible guy, but no, I don't think he comes across as weak or stupid or anything like that. I think it's actually about time they show a guy like Alejandro. Not all gays are macho guys, some are more in touch with their feelings, like Alejandro. I think it's unfair to compare Alejandro with Fer, like Anthony said.. take this show for what it is, it's a new show with a new gay guy. It might have been inspired by Fer from FOQ, but Kevin Aponte made Alejandro into his own, which is how it should be. I think the writers have done a great job with Alejandro so far, he comes across as a sensitive guy without being a "sissy". I don't think we see enough of these type of guys on tv. You can be sensitive or in touch with your feelings without being a "sissy" or effeminate or whatever.. I definitely think guys like Alejandro exist out there, and that it's about time we see them on tv. Alejandro is love struck right now, so that's why he might come across as "weak" for someone, but I think he'll only grow more confidence when he comes to terms with who he is. If people really want to make comparisons to FOQ and FER.. Fer was never confident in the beginning either, he was insecure, very insecure. It wasn't until he came out that he gained more confidence, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the same progression with Alejandro. He'll probably get stronger and more confident as time passes, and as he really comes to terms with who he is and accepts it. I'm not too worried. But my advice is do not compare Alejandro to Fer, you'll only end up disappointed. Alejandro is a new gay character, he might be inspired by Fer, but that's where all similarities ends. Kevin Aponte made Alejandro into his own. About Diego.. I am confident in the writers. I think it'll make for some great tv, and a lot of drama, with the homophobic straight jock realizing he has feelings for, and likes, guys. And no, I don't think it's cliché, because making Diego gay.. now that would have been totally cliché, but they're not, they're making him bisexual, which imo is a lot more realistic. I never bought David's complete turn around to gayborhood. Besides.. how refreshing isn't this? How many bisexual male characters do we often see on tv? Not many! Also, I don't think the writers will pair Diego up with chicks, it's very clear from the spoilers that Diego will fall in love with Alejandro. Sure, he might still like girls, but he is committed to Alejandro, and wants to be with him. At least that's what it says in the spoilers. I'm more worried about the parents aspect, that they come between Alejandro and Diego, more so than Diego ruining their relationship to be with girls, I don't think that'll happen. I think we'll see a bisexual guy being in a gay relationship. The spoilers say that Alejandro is the one who is really not sure about Diego because of the bisexuality thing, that he's afraid he might leave him for some girl, but it explicitly says that Diego is committed to Alejandro, so.. again, if something is coming between them I think it's most likely Diego's parents, not his attraction to other girls. Diego is unlikeable right now, so it will be interesting to see how the writers soften up his character, I'm thinking Alejandro will affect Diego in positive way, making Diego more human. It will be very interesting to watch, and I'm already excited for this unlikely pairing, I think that's part of the fun, it will create a lot of drama, and I like the idea of Alejandro softening up Diego.. making Diego a better guy All in all I think the writers have done a great job so far, I am really enjoying this storyline, and I really like Alejandro, with his sensitivities and all, I don't think he's necessarily portrayed as weak, just sensitive, some people just are more sensitive and in touch with their feelings, and there's nothing wrong with that, it's about time guys like that are portrayed on tv too.

rainbow
I think you're defending when there is nothing to defend. I was simply making the comparison, not in a way saying anything negative about the show.
I know this is a complete different entity, but it is based off of FoQ, and comparisons will be made.
Regardless, we really haven't seen much of Alejandro in terms of personality, other than that he's in love with Sebastian, and was with Rodrigo. And rainbow there are a lot of gays that are on TV who are sensitive. Unfortunately after watching QaF numerous times, the part where they refer Justin as sensitive made me angry, because they made it seem like that is why he's gay. So everytime I see anyone refer to the "sensitive" guy, it automatically means they're gay.
When I heard the word, "sensible," it just pinched a nerve for me, because again, just because you're sensitive, does not make you gay. They did that exact same thing with Sebastian. Nora referred to Sebastian as sensitive, and immediately came to the conclusion that he might be gay.
I apologize for not being more clear and thorough with my explanation. I've watched so many shows where stereotypes are the norms and especially in my culture (Filipino), gays are NEVER portrayed as different types of people. They are always portrayed as weak, "sensitive," and highly feminine. Some of it is a part of gay culture, but that one word just made me upset, apparently we are aren't as diverse as the rest of the world.
I don't have any real gripes with the show. It's a telenovela, so I'm not really expecting anything spectacular or life-changing. However, I do agree that the show is doing an okay job with Alejandro. As for the main storyline? Not so much.

Comparisons don't have to be made. Lot's of people watching the Telemundo show have never seen FoQ from Spain so it's no inevitable that folks will compare.
Also this is a telenovela, it's a very different kind of writing and directing style and the show is not strictly sticking to the original script.
So I'm not sure why we need to compare in order to talk about THIS show.

Also this is a telenovela, it's a very different kind of writing and directing style and the show is not strictly sticking to the original script. So I'm not sure why we need to compare in order to talk about THIS show. It depends on what you're comparing. I was just making the statement of how different they are, NOT saying that they should follow FoQ to the T. Pointing out differences isn't illegal. I'm not comparing JUST to talk about it. I'm just making conversation, and talking about the differences. Also in this board, I'm sure the majority have seen FoQ, so we have seen the show it's based off of. The people who watch Telemundo on TV right now aren't exactly the people who are members of this specific discussion board. Regardless, like I've said, I don't have any gripes with the show, and I think they're doing an okay job with everything. I know very well this is a telenovela with a totally different type of writing/acting, and basically everything. I don't get why everyone is attacking me just for making a comparison between Fer and Alejandro. Alejandro is based off of the character of Fer. That is the main topic of this discussion, the gay characters. I'm not saying I hate Alejandro, I didn't even say I liked him. I didn't even say he had to be like Fer. I just made a comparison between the two DIFFERENT characters. If people want to attack me for making a simple statement, why bother?

I thought Nora was a bitch in this episode!
Come on.. you know Alejandro is in love with Sebastian, so why did you do that? was it just to publicly embarrass him? I thought it was really mean!
ETA: I read a lot of comments on YT that are confused over the fact that they talk Spanish and this is set in USA.. actually, it's not that weird at all. In Miami over 50 % of the population has Spanish as their first language. It's actually hard to get by in Miami anymore if you don't know any Spanish. Many people working in stores, supermarkets etc only know Spanish!

I didn't get Nora's game/joke either She was totally playing with the feelings of both guys. She knows Sebastian has fallen for her, and that Alejandro is in love with Seba, so...what was that? To me, the situation at the pool was hot, but cruel as well

But anyway, it amazes me that people seem to be over-analyzing this novela as if it were a Shakespearean tragedy Come on, people, how about a bit of suspension of disbelief?!

It's driving me nuts. I swear I want to delete half the comments! It's weird.. your account seem to attract some of the most moronic youtube users.. ugh I mean, first of all.. how many times do they have to write "I don't like this, it's to similar to FOQ" or "why is this so similar to FOQ?" Not much research even required to answer those questions.. just READ the former answers to the exact same questions! And you also have those saying "I don't like this... it was better in FOQ." Uhm.. it's a new show, do not compare it with FOQ! You'll only end up disappointed! Besides.. if you don't like it... nobody is forcing you to watch. And then there's those people not saying anything but "the acting sucks." Uhm, ok.. fine, you don't like the acting, we get it! No need to say it A MILLION TIMES! Ugh.. we heard you the first time! Also.. again, if you don't like it nobody is forcing you to watch. Others can stomach the acting, so it can't possibly be that bad. Besides.. when have soaps EVER been known for good acting? Exactly, this is a telenovela, the acting and storylines are even more over the top than usual, get used to it, take it for what it is, good campy fun, or go watch an Oscar movie if it annoys you so much! Also.. how will a comment about how much the acting sucks add ANYTHING of substance to the discussion anyway? "acting sucks.." ok.. and? Like, why not comment on what's going on instead of complaining again and again? It's much more fruitful to discuss what's actually going on instead of making rude comments. Anthony, I get your frustration, I really do. I don't know what can be done about it, because people will ALWAYS complain, some people just love to hate. I appreciate you uploading this storyline, I love it! It's just such a shame that some people will always make rude comments

I disagree, I think Diego is really hot, I also think he will get hotter the more he softens up. He is kinda cold, homophobic and obnoxious right now, but I'm sure our Ale will warm up his heart! But by all means.. if you think he's so ugly, you don't have to watch. I on the other hand can't wait to watch how this all plays out. I think Ale and Diego will be an extremely good looking couple!

I agree with overtherainbow, I think Diego is hot. I actually prefer him over Ale (even if Ale is kinda of cute) If they'll end up together they definitely will make a good looking couple.

I think the AleRP01 channel has the best translation so far. Plus he/she gives small explanations of what might be lost in translation. www.youtube.com/user/AleRP01?feature=watch"Ale I want you to run like Forrest Gump" lol Poor Alex... not the best athlete out there is he? :/ I know right?? I speak both eng and spn and can tell you that Omar's subs are always extremely close as possible as to what is being said. And yeah, he gives a small explanation of what will can be confused in translation. Just like on his 8th video. He gave some good explanations and after that, on the 9th video gave more detail as to what was going on with other plots in the story that were mentioned in the clip. And the quality of his videos just got better. Even though I watch he soap on TV, I like watching it on youtube too. and I prefer his channel.. But Anthony thank you for the uploads too! And Idk if doing this on this forum is okay or not. But on Omar's channel, you can also start watching Adrian and Julian's storyline! He started uploading it with English subs. Sorry for straying off subject, but now back to it! what is up with Sebas taking his shirt off in front of the girl he likes, and the boy that likes him? I mean if he wants to Turn Nora on, then do it when Ale is not present cause otherwise he's going to get turned on too!! clips courtesy of AleRP01

I was like "Man! he looks so plain standing next to Sebastian." lol But then again the character is a bit of a brute, so it's not easy to like him (at least right now) . What I'm interested about is how the writers will bring Alex & Diego together. Those two are soooo not alike. So I can't wait to see what develops. Ohhhh Adrian/Julian! Oh please please Anthony!!! Give that series a try. It's really good!
