I guess straight women, like myself, are rare who would rather watch the gay storylines versus the same old heterosexual ones that we live day in and day out.

From what I remember the storyline for Relaciones Peligrosas was focused on Teens and the advertising was based around that. They when out and promoted it that way as well. The show itself was hijacked by the writer who forgot what the it was all about. The drugs and underage sex could certainly be its own show as I have said before. The rating failed because what was offered and what we got were two different things. I doubt in the long run that they will be able to save it if you don't follow the teens storyline as advertised you will lose the adult veiwers and if you follow the Adult storyline you'll lose the Teens. The storyline should have been split when they retooled the show that way they may have saved both shows instead of losing the viewers.
In a previous post I spoke about centring a show about the latin community and found it offensive that any section of the community should be shown that way. That should have sent a clear message to the Producer and Writers that the viewers were not happy with the direction of the show and that is bourne out by the ratings. It is just dumb not to be listening and continue with the same old crap The fact they they didn't show the Gay Kiss probably has more to do with the fact that it is an election year in the US than anything else and may have killed off Ales and Diego at the same time. For a country that is supposed to be liberal it is still very prudish.
It should also be remembered that while we may or may not be watching this on TV and affecting the rating we are still an important part of the process. If a show is great we will tell our friends who would watch and if it is crap we tell our friends and they will stop watching. I think TV Stations pay as much attention to Social Media as much as they do the rating and comments on a show.
They may pretend to jump up and down about copyright but the truth is that it is free advertising for the latest production and away of getting it out there and discussed. The long term view is that if it is good and rates well it will attract interest from other parts of the world and may then be exported. It is a clear and valid point with the proof being that so may shows are on places like You Tube without any problems.

I know that visibility is really important, and I'm very happy every time the gay issue is addressed by the media...but I've been wondering lately why some shows decide to tackle such a ( still) controversial matter if at the end of the day they're going to shamelessly chicken out? I'm really curious, because I know that if a gay storyline is well done (good & charismatic actors, good scripts) attracts a significant amount of viewers more. There are several examples of shows that greatly benefited with the inclusion of this kind of stories ( "America" (Brazil, 2005), and "Botineras" (Argentina, 2009) come to my mind; the Argentinian soap opera was seriously struggling with the ratings until the producers introduced a gay storyline: the ratings went up significantly and the novela avoided its sure cancellation ) It looks like there is a lot of improvisation in this business ...

mycatfox I've seen some really great South American Movies as well "Burnt Money" and "City of no Limits" to name a couple so it doesn't make sense to me that Relaciones Peligrosas is so bad when there is a capablility to produce good work. The two things that can destroy a serial quicker than you can blink are Homophobia as it is proved that this will keep a focus on being gay as something bad or evil and look what your life will be if you are gay. And more importantly a failure to listen to your viewers as has happened here. Burying your head in the sand and not reading your rating correctly can make a great show fail or a crappy show succeed. As the turn around time between filming and showing is so short with Relaciones Peligrosas I find it weird that they are not being more responsive to viewers needs, It makes no sense what so ever.

Perhaps niceone that is all we will ever see. They don't seem that interested in the Ales/Diego Story at all.

I want to give Omar a big shout out for subtitling the last season on FOQ. I had no idea that David and Fer were having problems before the death. BTW- i think Fer and David were the best actors for a gay couple out of all the shows on this board. They looked totally natural kissing and being together, not like just trying to get the scene over with (yes, I'm talking to you Danny Miller and Jake Silbermann)!

If the kiss isn't shown,, its useless... the soap should just get rid of anyone gay and go back to what appeals to its audience... hetero rape scenes,,, abuse of black minorities,,, and all these profoundly moral scenes its viewers care about...

yes, Rick, they will be happy about the kiss itself, but no so much about the censorship.
Duskysoda, I don't see how the kiss is useless? Maybe to the viewer in a way because the kiss wasn't known, it only showed when they parted, but the Dad still saw. So at least for the dad, it wasn't useless.
haha, sorry I just had to laugh a bit at your second part. There was only once (in the very beginning) that there was almost a rape scene. And Cassius has been out for some time. I believe he's in another state at the moment. I just hope that soon they will show more of Ale. Today he was actually shooting some material for RP.

yes... I meant useless for viewers who care about seeing 2 guys treated like other characters on soaps who like one another. But true... I'm sure the Dad seeing it will advance RP's storyline where Papa will once again call Ale "that thing" and eventually lead to him expressing that very modern notion that Ale made his son Diego gay thru Ale's wicked, satanic and crafty methods... it's so 2012!
