I'm also underwhelmed by their chemistry, but it's hard to get a good reading from the brief, 20-second scenes they're given. The show has been renewed for next season, but it's hard to tell if Marco will be back or not. He might just be the guy who filled the gap when Kyle abruptly left and next season we get a whole new romantic adventure for Teddy.

AfterElton has reported that Freddie Smith (Marco) will be back for season 4 and could possibly be more of a regular then a guest star.

'90210' Newcomer Freddie Smith May Return Next Season, Talks His 'Mature' On-Screen Relationship Posted 5/3/11 1:56 pm ET by Amy Wilkinson in TV News hollywoodcrush.mtv.com/2011/05/03/90210-freddie-smith-may-return-next-season/SPOILERS, SPOILERS, SPOILERSOn last night's episode of "90210," we finally got our first more-than-fleeting look at Teddy's soccer-playing beau Marco, and learned his fatal flaw in the process: He's not rich! GASP! How dare he step foot in Beverly Hills without a seven-figure trust fund to his name! Teddy didn't seem to mind too much, though, a happy circumstance for those of you drooling over the dark and handsome actor behind the role: Freddie Smith. We got on the phone with the Ohio native recently to chat about his breakout role and to find out how long he'll be staying in California's most infamous zip code. Hollywood Crush: What attracted you to this character?Freddie Smith: ----> The character was great. Me and him are kind of similar. He's an athlete. I didn't play soccer, but I played basketball and baseball in high school, and he's got a very charismatic personality, and I always look at things positively, and so does my character. So we had a lot of similarities. And it's a great show. What was the audition process like?It was a funny story. Usually when you go for a recurring guest or a new character you go up to five or six times. I went one time and they put me on tape and cast me from the tape. It was amazing. They called me, and my manager was like, 'Hey, you're going to do a chemistry read,' and I was assuming it was going to be with Trevor [Donovan]. But then two hours before I was supposed to go in, he called me and said, 'Hey, they don't want to see you anymore.' And I was like, 'Why?' And he said, 'Because you booked it.' And I was like, 'Wow!'" So you didn't meet Trevor before filming? That [first scene] you saw. We knew each other for two hours before we did that scene. What have fan responses been like so far? There's people like girls, guysall different ages. It's all been positive, thank God. They've been appreciative of what I've been doing. This one guy sent me a long letter saying he was a writer and after watching me, it helped him get over his writer's block. He came up with this new character. It's really great that my work is touching people. It's amazing to have people appreciate the work I'm doing. What can you tell us about the last few episodes of the season?Freddie Smith: -->[Teddy and Marco] go to prom. It's an amazing prom. It's going to be a great episode. I think it's one of the more mature relationships, especially for high school kids. But with these characters, they're just so mature. They really know what they want and who they are. It's great to be able to play a character who knows what he wants.Do you know how many episodes you'll be in?Freddie Smith: --> I'm not sure. This season is a total of five. There's a great possibility I'll be back next year, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they're doing with it!

i was a bit bummed with how quickly the Ian storyline came and went but I really like Marco. Freddie Smith is super adorable and he seems to be a more mature and stable match for Teddy =) can't wait for monday! I've read spoiler after spoiler about the prom and can't wait to see the Marco Teddy scenes I've read about!

I have to say that is really refreshing an interview with a straight actor who centers in his similarities with his gay character, because usually the answer is "i have nothing in common with my character"

But it's more of the similarity between their personality traits. I think why we viewers like him so much in such short period of time (besides him being really cute), it's that he comes across natural in his scenes. So I guess he's very much playing himself (minus the sexuality part).

Is anyone else stoked for the prom episode?! It's on tonight for me. I can't wait to see Teddy and Marco =)

Unfortunately, Teddy and Marco are only a very small part of the prom episode. They exchange only 1 line of dialog in the whole episode when Teddy asks Marco to dance after he wins Prom King. So, disappointing screen time, but the prom scenes had a wonderful atmosphere of acceptance. Considering how many gay couples have a hard time going to their prom together in many places, this was really nice to see. Another episode that was good for the cause more than it was entertaining. I'll take it, but I hope for more screen time for the boys in the future.

I agree, i wish there was more screentime with the two of them. But I'm so glad they blended them in with all the other couples instead of trying to set it up as some hard choice for teddy. and I love your picture Hawthorne! I think this photo ^ of marco and teddy at prom should totally go on the main show page since it's marco and teddy now instead of ian. Hope to see more them in the future!!!! =D

Love that picture of Marco and Teddy!! But I was kind of disappointed about the episode. Not much screentime for the boys, although they really looked amazing in their suits!! I expected at least some more words between them, but seeing them come in together with all the other couples was really beautiful!! Cannot wait to see more of them in the coming episodes!!

Disappointing with how little screentime they are getting. But thank god they danced together (although a little stiff). LOL! Love Marco/Freddie's smile. Really CUTE!

I have to say the prom was a bit boring and dull. But Teddy looked amazing so sexy as prom King.Marco looked handsome too.The dance with each other was cute. But they are lacking chemistry big time i don't see it.Maybe if they had more screentime letting us the viewers see them more then we could see the sparks.I just think the writers rush them to be a couple right after Ian.Ian and Teddy they took their time getting to now each other they had alot chemistry they where destined to be a hot couple but that got ruined.

Yawn. Aside from that one cute moment between them, the rest of Teddy's screen time was a waste. I didn't have high hopes for 90210 when Teddy's story first started, but they've still managed to disappoint. Sigh .

i'll agree that teddy and marco don't seem to have as much chemistry as ian and teddy did. BUT i think it's because of lack of screen time. If you look at any of the (albit few) screencaps of teddy and marco you can see the chemistry between them in their looks. they just need a bit more on screen time to show it. They are by far my favorite couple even with the small amout of screen time.

I think that on balance I have to give the show a thumbs up for the Teddy storyline this season. It definitely disappointed me in a number of ways (screen time, Ian leaving), but it also exceeded my expectations in a few areas. For one thing, there hasn't been anything weird about the kissing, as often happens on mainstream shows. No doorbells ringing just as they're about to kiss, no panning away just before a kiss. No just hugging when normally they should kiss. And none of the gay characters got hit by a train leaving them incapable of any sexual contact. That's always a big plus in my book! I also really liked how Teddy's male friends handled his coming out. The episode where they all took him to a gay bar and ended up dancing and having a great time was, IMO, a milestone in the portrayal of straight-gay integration on mainstream TV. The complete absence of the stereotypical gay panic reactions was VERY refreshing. I also liked how nothing unusual or special was made about Teddy and Marco going to their prom.
It could be that the show was being very cautious about having a gay storyline this season because their ratings were borderline and they couldn't afford to alienate too many people. But I think the Teddy storyline actually contributed to the show getting renewed, so perhaps they will be less cautious with screen time for Teddy next season.

I agree with the rest of the people here.. Teddy gets so little screen time already! And when he DOES actually show up on screen it's all just filler Too little.. WAY too little Meddy (Marco+Teddy) in this epiosde! Fuck, we got more of them when it was about Marco being poor and then we only got 5 minutes! The dance scene this time lasted for 1 minute But yeah.. it was cute, I just wish it lasted for longer. We barely got a glimpse of them. I love them together, but this writing is just.. how come they use so much time on all the other characters who are MUCH more boring and so little on Teddy, who's actually the most interesting character on the show? so stupid imo!

It's just sad that there was hardly any Teddy and Marco last night. They just felt like background members not part of the episode. It's like Teddy became gay and the show only gives him like five minutes of screen time compare to everyone else.

The Teddy character is not considered a major player... They have those little promos that show the actors looking into the camera and the voiceover says .." Watch 90210 on the CW..." Teddy is never in them!! He is considered to be a minor character and Now it looks after the prom story where Teddy and Marco get no airtime to speak of,, the actor playing Marco is leaving for "Days" unless he plans to do both which he certainly could since 90210 requires no effort for him to do

Dropping it? After it barely being there? Ugh, just such disappointments.

I just saw that news. I knew that some regulars were leaving the show but I am surprised that is the [first] one cut considering that was one of the 2 good storylines all season (Naomi & Max would be the other).
Crappy decision IMO.
