Don't think this was ever posted on at the time (August last year)...Well, definitely not in this thread, as the last post was made before it came out!... "Ground-breaking German TV series being adapted for U.S." (Metro Star) There are quotes from Jo and the Director of Development with aid+abet (see their site for a copy of the above), JP Sarni.

Hello, anyone got any news for the HBO adaptation so far? When will it be happening or who will be the director? I just started the storyline a week ago and not so happy hearing rumors that VL was so close to being cancelled.
Anyway, I just thought Scott Evans can be an option for Christian.

Hello, anyone got any news for the HBO adaptation so far? When will it be happening or who will be the director? I just started the storyline a week ago and not so happy hearing rumors that VL was so close to being cancelled. Anyway, I just thought Scott Evans can be an option for Christian. You know it's so funny that you would say that.I have a friend who is a writer and he just wrote a pilot for The CW called LakeLand.Which if picked up would premiere in the fall of 2011 it will be the CW first daytime soap I should hear from him in June about weather or not it's been picked up.Anyways he told me that HBO is keeping very, very, very quite about this he even told me at one time he heard that ShowTime was thinking about trying to buy the rights if HBO decided to pass it up.Again he says that they are keeping very quite about this he says that the US really doesn't have or had a same-sex couple that has the international success like Christian and Oliver. He said of course you had Luke and Noah and Luke and Reid but they are not nearly as popular as Christian and Oliver are.He said he heard that they are looking for A-listers actors to play Christian and Oliver he also said that they want to stay true the story and not rush it but stay true to the love.He said that negotiations can go on for years especially when your doing a remake I asked him would Jo or Thore have any say at all.He said that he doesn't see that happening he said that even though Jo and Thore have made Christian and Oliver the icons that they are. They would probably talk to the producers and the writers to get some ideas. He said that if the show is picked up the only way Jo and Thore will have a say is if the actors as them for advice that's about all.I asked him was there anything we could do he said you could start up a peition or writer in to the executives of either HBO or ShowTime he said untill you hear a yes or no answer keep hope alive.

When I last checked in with the aid+abet site, their 'christian & olli' project was no longer listed on their 'projects' page......but now it's back! It says it's in the genre of '1 hour television', is being written by Zach Hug and JP Sarni, produced by Sam Martin and JP Sarni, and is set for an August 2012 release. (Thanks to MM for the heads-up.)

I also would say Jo and Thore winning the Most Beauitful Couple, may have showed how loved the couple still is after four years. Jo winning the most favorite soap star as well.

If they do what Queer As Folk did to the British original, they'll mess it up. The British original was sharp and fearless; the American version was television by committee and focus group. It grew into something more, but slowly, and it never reached the excitement the British original did. Character for character: Brian was Stuart without the edge; Nathan was brilliant while Justin was a puppy (not that I wouldn't take him home); and Vince was the best character of all, especially compared to Michael. The only American character who was a match for the British counterpart was Debbie for Hazel; both were great, but Hazel was great because of the writing and the acting; Debbie was great because of the acting.

I like the American version better than the British. I guess it's a matter of preference.

I think David A Gregory who plays Robert Ford on One Life To Live would make a great olli. Nothing like Jo but close enough. Google his picture and see what I mean.

Late for a reply on this, but I just read it and, wow, are you me? I completely agree. I watched the UK version long after the US version had started, maybe towards the end of the US version, and I was shocked by how incredibly CowLip messed up the UK version's near masterpiece. Knowing what I had seen of the US version, I was apprehensive of the UK one and I was so, so wrong, as the original was just butchered in the US. The edge was gone in favor of beyond contrived soapiness, cheapness and mediocrity. Every character on the UK one was better, including Debbie/Hazel IMO, and mainly for the very difference you noted. Seriously, I'll ask again, are you me? LOL It's good to see validation like this. ;D

I understand that they are taking this very seriously. They are being very careful with the casting because they think this has a long run ahead of it, so wanting to make sure the two actors are prepared to do this for a decade or more. They know that if one were to leave, the show would die for it is primarily about that relationship. They have a significant chemistry to replicate so they are taking it very carefully. I further understand that there will be 42-44 one hr episodes a year and will be broadcast weekly on cable. There will be a 2 hr pilot that will bring the audience up to their being flatmates. We have to hope that they are responsible with the storyline and not be sensational or stereotypical. We should have faith because the founders of aid + abet have a very great reputation. Fingers crossed. Meanwhile and afterwards, I still hope to have this Chrolli to enjoy....

I don't know of any show nowadays that films 42 shows a year especially cable. That seems way high.
