At first I didn't get the 'gay vibe', but after a few episodes I can see where everyone's coming from. Episode 10. One even does not have to try to reinterpret anything ;D

But one can argue that in 4 Merlin saved his life and Arthur owed him, he would do it for anybody. But in 10 it's beyond doubt that he's doing it for Merlin. He's not returning any favour, he wants to help him.

Ah, I think Uther's really horrible treatment of Merlin in that ep is there to remind us that nobles back then really did feel that servants OWED their lives to their royals and that since this is how Arthur was brought up, his reaction is out of the ordinary.
Plus, the handsome prince ALWAYS rescues his beloved damsel in distress. In fact, rescuing her is the most appropriate form of professing one's love in this kind of tale. And Merlin is SO the damsel in distress. However he got there, he's just obviously filling that traditional literary role...
But dude, Merliiiiiiin! Merlin in this ep, lying in his bed, moaning Arthur's name! It is RIDICULOUSLY INTIMATE. XD

Arthur has a very strong sense of right and wrong despite of his father's upbringing, Uther has to remind him in almost every episode that as a king he won't have that liberty and that he will have to make pragmatic decisions. But at the end of the episode Arthur conceded himself that he cared even if he masked it by saying that a half decent servant is hard to find ;D I just think that 10th episode is more explicit in this respect, because there's a lot of interaction and dialogue between the two. And even Merlin's mother says: "He really likes you" ;D

Okay, I only watched the eps once, after they were originally aired, I'm due for a marathon of re-watching the entire season, but wasn't ep 4 the first one where this pattern appears? I know we got used to it in later eps, but this was still the first one, assuming I'm not entirely senile. Which is not a safe assumption. I know, I LOVED that his mother said that. A friend of mine on LJ made a "pflag mother" icon out of that scene. Not to mention in ep 9, the ep RIGHT before it, Uther practically gave Arthur away to Merlin. "Here, after I'm dead? I want YOU to have my son. You obviously truly love him. Plus, he needs someone to remind him what liberties he won't have as a king". Which shows how far along UTHER has come since ep 4. By the way, I don't think it's accidental that we're discussing 4 and 10... They were both written by the same guy. ;D

In episode #3 Arthur saved Merlin after Merlin said to Uther that he's guilty of practicing magic not Gwen. Arthur said that Merlin is only saying that because he's in love with Gwen. It must have been difficult for Arthur to say that, but it was the only way ;D

Oh, I'm trying not to read this thread cause I don't want to be spoiled. They have only aired the first episode here in Norway. I LOVED the show though, it was even better than I imagined

I was watching a commentary for the episode 10 when Arthur was talking to Merlin before he left, Arthur turns to Merlin and the actress playing Morgana dubbed that moment for Arthur and said : "I love you" ;D

Have you seen this music vid? It's really good, about Arthur, Merlin and Lancelot.

Well, they have to put Lancelot in with suggestive cuts and labels, but with Merlin and Arthur they don't even have to try ;D In that commentary I think it was Bradley who said to Kate (? Morgana) that she should not fuel that kind of thing and she answered she does not have to fuel anything ;D

a friend of mine just posted this on her LJ:
Colin Morgan, who plays Merlin was rushed to hospital on the set of Merlin today. Reports are now surfacing that he has been seriously injured while filming Merlin and filming has temporarily been suspended.

Really? I hadn't read that yet, but I will check out the Merlin communities I read. If so, that's very sad news. Poor Colin! ETA: So far all I could find was that he was taken to a hospital yesterday in an ambulance. But I couldn't find anything about the seriousness of his injuries or the continuation of the filming. When did you read that B-chick?

Yes, you're right. I was already on my way to correct my post. I also found out where the 'filming has stopped' news came from: www.dvdrama.com/news-35771-merlin-blesse-tournage-interrompu-.phpBut I also read on someone else's LJ that she heard from someone in Pierrefonds (the place where they film) heard that he's okay and he'll be back on set again tomorrow. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply, Ivan and amber!
I can't wait for the new season! 8 days left. Is it on a saturday? I guess it is, but isn't that a bad slot?
