I am pleased to report that the snow is melting pretty rapidly. We only had a few centimetres overall in the end, although Thursday was rather horrid. The snowflakes were about the size of my fist...I'd never seen them that big!! Was out driving when that snowstorm started. Took me an hour to do a five minute journey, the roads just disappeared!!
Cats have plenty of food including half of my chicken sandwich. BAD KITTIES!
Amber Whenever I put one of the discs on I squeak so loudly it would be embarrassing except for the fact that I am shameless when it comes to Merlin. ;D

Amber, sorry to hear that the trouble maker on your forum was making trouble again. But it's good to have the thick skin it takes to get it all taken care of. So the Harry Potter look alike isn't PM anymore? What made the government fall. (Being an American, I don't really understand how it is that governments/cabinets fall short of loosing an election, or why that's not a huge disadvantage in the system. Although I have spent around 8 years of the last decade wishing that there were ways to force elections sooner....) Neand, that sounded like a miserable way to listen to an orchestra concert. I think it was good you walked home and could hear it just fine from your back porch. I'm thinking the people they hired to do the sound in the parking lot were people who normally do sound for festivals and concerts with rock/metal bands. It would explain it being too loud and not being tuned to suit the music better. Louisa, I'm glad you survived another snow. Keep that tea and cat food supply going. Winter isn't over yet. My parents are ready for the winter to be over. They've gotten so much snow this year that one has to creep out into nearly any intersection because one can't see over the snow banks. And in the country there are places where there are 5 or 6 foot drifts that make it seem like you're driving in a tunnel, and any wind can create problems with snow drifting in over the road. Here were I live, however, we haven't had that much snow and it keeps melting. We only have a few inches left on the ground.

Restenergy the clarity in your pics is amazing. I can't wait to get over to your blog and check out the rest! Aren't those houses the ones that were used for the exteriors in the show "Full House"? I think they might be called the "Seven Sisters" Neand Glad you were finally able to enjoy the concert. I pictured you on your back porch, feet on the railing, still in coat, gloves, hat, etc, sipping a cuppa tea with a huge smile on your face. Also CONGRATULATIONS on the new baby news! When is she due? How is Emilie doing? Amber Sorry to hear about the member that just couldn't get it together. It's good you are able to let it roll off and just keep going. Did I miss a Jarno update? Is he close to walking? That will open up a whole new world for him! ;D Because we had last week off for "President's Week", we missed celebrating Chinese New Year at school, so we are doing it tomorrow. My husband came with me to get the "lai-see" envelopes at the Chinese market. I always get the same pattern which takes some time because I need 25 packages of them. So there we were sorting thru all the packages getting just the ones I want, with my husband holding up a package saying "Is this one OK?" and me answering "No, it's close but I like this one better". This goes on for about 10-15 minutes until FINALLY we have enough of the same pattern to make me happy. The whole time we have been sorting thru the packages we have been getting some pretty strange looks from the Asian patrons, but they always find it a little amusing when "Caucasians" come shopping. So last night I'm stuffing the envelopes from the back, because that's where the flap opens. About half way thru I drop one, it lands face up, and I see that it is NOT the pattern I wanted. I figure we picked up one different package by mistake, so I turn them all over so I can take out the "wrong" ones. Much to my surprise and embarrassment there were a lot of "wrong" ones because......the packages were all "Assorted" styles! That's right, 6 different patterns in each package! Had a good laugh over it though, so it wasn't all bad! ;D Bet the Asian patrons are still telling their friends about us! ;D *Waves hello to everyone*

Those houses are Steiner Street alongside Alamo Square and are often called "Painted Ladies" in travel books. (But the term, apparently, also applies to the style of brightly colored victorians around the city and elsewhere.) They are a much photographed row of these houses and from the park you can see a nice view of the downtown area behind them. And, yes, according to Wikipedia they are the houses in the opening credits of Full House.
Fun story about the envelopes. How was the trip to the desert? You had a good time, I trust.

I'm beat... spent the morning playing postman, going from one mailbox to the next distributing leaflets and receipts for the parish. It is now official... I HATE DOGS. Enough said. And to think I volunteered to do the same thing again tomorrow morning. I wonder how hard it is to fake amnesia... Snow... I would not want anyone to think that there's no snow... total snowfall so far: 215cm (a touch over 7 feet)... it's just that it doesn't feel like winter (I like it cold). louisa wow... I don't recall seeing snowflakes that big either... at least you made it to your destination all in one piece. restenergy those photographs of yours are just out of this world. I agree with you about the people hired to do the sound. I was not the only one to leave... according to a friend of mine, it seems I got the ball rolling. momnoc Thanks. Émilie is doing very well. If everything goes according to plan, I should be visiting them second week in March. Ah those caucasians... I'm stuffing the envelopes from the back because that's where the flap opens... I need visuals... isn't this the way envelopes are? ;D or is this me being thick? Tell me, are all the envelopes red? Are the teachers doing it too? or is it just a Miss Momnoc thing? Wouldn't surprise me. Are you all tanned and rested? Why I love Ice Dancing: That's it for me. Take care one and all, JF

Are the teachers doing it too? or is it just a Miss Momnoc thing? Wouldn't surprise me. Are you all tanned and rested? Sorry Neand, Yes the envelopes are red, but they come with different designs on the front. What I meant was....I had turned all the envelopes face down so I couldn't see the design on the front of the envelope. And until I dropped one, I had assumed they were all the same design that we had painstakingly sought out. This is the first year the packages of 6 have had assorted designs inside. I just assumed they were all the same design as the one on top. The Kinders celebrate Chinese New Year (CNY) in their classrooms and have a "Dragon Parade" throughout the campus. When they get to the Library I read them a CNY story and hand out Lai-See. Last year was my first year, and the teachers wanted to know where I got such real looking money....I told them at the BANK! ;D You can't give fake money, that would be like giving fake wishes or luck! I also do it for a 3rd grade classroom because the teacher is one Bam had. I did CNY when I was Room Mom for his class and his teacher has asked me every year to come back and do it again.....even when I didn't have a job or a student there. ;D So tomorrow we will be making rice balls, dragons, reading stories, doing puzzles, enjoying a "Tray of Togetherness" and some sweets that would be part of the Kitchen God's feast. You give the Kitchen God "sweets' so that he will have "sweet" things to say about the family when he reports to the Jade Emperor. Yes I am tanned and rested. I layed out by the pool from 9-3 everyday gazing at the beautiful snow covered mountains. That's how I like my snow......high up and far away! ;D Have a great trip to see Emilie and take lots of pics, please.

Today has been a sad day for the dutch fans of speedskating. Major drama. (For us anyway. And definitely for Sven Kramer and his coach.) The only gold medal that was almost a given. And such a stupid, stupid, stupid mistake. His coach coached his in the wrong lane and he was disqualified. I'm still in shock and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. For those who didn't get it yet: speedskating is practically our national sport. Millions of people were probably watching this. Now excuse me. I'm going to drown my sorrow with a nice glass of wine. I'll be back tomorrow in hopefully better spirits.

Well, ice-fishing season is over... all the huts have been ordered off the Saguenay by Fisheries and Ocean Canada, the department fearing for the safety of the ice-fisher(men/women)... this is the shortest fishing season in recorded history, barely 30 days... a direct consequence of the temps we've been having... could end up being the warmest winter in recorded history... and the World Ice and Snow Sailing Championship which was to be held in La Baie has also had to be cancelled. This is a major blow to the regional tourism industry... amber speed skating is to your country what, to a certain extent, hockey is to ours. The Nederlands has always been a speed skating powerhouse. I still can't believe that Sven Kramer's coach could make such a mistake. What did have to say for himself? I feel terrible for Sven Kramer. I hope your sorrows have been well and truly drowned... Are you off tomorrow? You might need it to recover from your hangover... ;D momnoc Can I go for a cybervisit? This CNY seems like so much fun... You are fantastic. You can put monopoly money in my envelope... I love this thread... all the things I get to learn. Around here, the latest sweet-craze is sour-tasting candies... that's about all you can find in the candy stores... wonder what the Kitchen God would have to say to the Jade Emperor. We'd all be stricken off his list... I need to read on the Jade Emperor... Good CNY day celebrations... Bolshoi + Cirque du Soleil + skates = a Gold medal performance by Canadian ice-dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. I have watched their final routine god knows how many times, and I still get goosebumps. I'll wait until tomorrow to watch Joannie Rochette's short program. As most people probably know by now, her mom died of a heart attack the day she arrived in Vancouver to see Joannie perform. Joannie decided to compete... I have no clue where she gets the inner strength ... Time for me to call it a night. Take care one and all, JF

Thanks for taking a look at my galleries and for the compliment, Aliceg! I really appreciate hearing such things. And, if you should want to have one to hang on your wall, send me a PM. Signed prints are available. (Anyone else is welcome, too, of course. ) Nice to "see" you here again, Nana. I found San Francisco a wonderful city when I visited. I'd love to go back there. OH had a meeting the first day we were there, so I set out on my own with a wee bit of trepidation that goes with a place one is completely unfamiliar with, but I was soon reminded how much I like cities and so enjoyed the day (and the rest of the week). I'm glad my photos make the place seem more enticing. ;D I hope everyone has a great weekend! *waves*

I think I just spotted a lapdance in the commercial.... ;D Loving it! I hope one of the other guys reveals a bi side, so there'll be some action. LOL. I am such a f*ghag.

Hi everyone! How's everyone doing? It's been a bit quiet in here these last few days... Neand, is all well? Or are you giving up the CT/Forum for Lent, just as Mom did last year? Did they believe your fake amnesia? Well done on helping out distributing leaflets and receipts! I'm sure they're grateful for all your help. (Even though apparantly the dogs aren't ) I hope you're getting back your feel of winter. Sorry to hear the regional tourism industry suffered because of the warm winter. It seems like part of your snow and cold ended up in other parts of the world... Personally I'm just really, really, really happy seeing the first crocuses of this year today. Combined with some lovely sunshine it felt like winter was finally over. (Although we may get a little bit of snow again at the end of the week) I hope you'll have a really great time visiting your niece and little Émilie next week! PS. I loved Virtue & Moir's ice dancing! IMO they totally deserved to win; especially with their great final routine! I was entranced. And yes, I was - like many, many others - amazed and impressed by her inner strength. So the Harry Potter look alike isn't PM anymore? What made the government fall. (Being an American, I don't really understand how it is that governments/cabinets fall short of loosing an election, or why that's not a huge disadvantage in the system. Although I have spent around 8 years of the last decade wishing that there were ways to force elections sooner....) Haha, we still have the HP look alike for PM. Although technically he's just a caretaker PM at the moment. Wiki has a short expanation what a ' demissionary cabinet' means. The situation right now is that out of the three parties two stayed (CDA and CU) and one (PVDA); so a part of the old cabinet stayed on post until a new cabinet is formed to take care of things and 'rule' the country. Ministers of the two staying parties have taken over the posts previously held by Labour ministers (PVDA) until a new government is formed. They aren't allowed to make important decisions though: 'By constitutional convention, a demissionary cabinet has fewer powers than a conventional cabinet. The main aim of a demissionary cabinet is to organise elections and take care of ongoing business until the new cabinet comes into power. Thus, besides organising elections, it can only take care of urgent and pressing matters and not initiate controversial legislation. The States General decide which affairs are urgent and pressing or not.' Normally the system should work fine, but lately I have the feeling that there are just too many political parties; because of all these different opinions it's hard to make enough compromises to form a solid government. There is a lot to choose from (which is good!) but at the same time it makes it hard for all those parties to hold on to their ideals and at the same time rule the country with some of the others. Sometimes I wish it was just as easy as it was in the US, but to be honest: it wouldn't work here. And even though it can be a bit chaotic at times (like the last couple of years have shown); I really love the fact that a Cabinet or individual ministers can be send home when either they did a bad job or when the rest of the government no longer has faith in what they do/say. I wish I could explain it to you in Dutch; I just feel my English isn't good enough to explain such a thing without constantely referring to Wiki... The Cabinet fell btw because - after quite a few hours of deliberation, it became clear that coalition partners PvdA and CDA had insufficient confidence in each other. In February 2010, NATO had officially requested the Netherlands to extend its military involvement in Task Force Uruzgan, the ISAF operation in the Afghan province of Uruzgan, aimed at training Afghan security forces and transfer of responsibilities to the local authorities. Coalition party PvdA strongly opposed the extension of the mission. The collision between the government and the parliament, of which the majority disagreed with an extension of the mission, as well as between the coalition partners in the cabinet, threatened the existence of the cabinet and led to its fall. Beautiful new pics btw Restenergy! AmberDid I miss a Jarno update? Is he close to walking? That will open up a whole new world for him! ;D Uhm, I guess I didn't mention that here yet, but yes! He's walking. And he LOVES it. A few weeks ago it also gave my SIL almost an heart attack. She had taken him out of the play pen so he could play on the ground and walk around a bit (He had just started walking) and she was doing the dishes in the kitchen. When she walked back to the living room to check up on him he was nowhere to be seen. Shock! She looked everywhere and suddenly she heard some noise coming from upstairs. She went up and found him there! Playing with their cat... Apparently he had followed her up the stairs. She was so happy she didn't catch him walking the stairs because she might have shouted and scared him so much he would have fallen down. They didn't thought he would be able to do that yet. They were going to place a fench in front of the stairs anyway (of course), but now they bought one right away! Just scary how quick kids can be... LOL about you and your envelopes. Would have loved to see the look on your faces... ;D Last year was my first year, and the teachers wanted to know where I got such real looking money....I told them at the BANK! ;D You can't give fake money, that would be like giving fake wishes or luck! I also do it for a 3rd grade classroom because the teacher is one Bam had. You give the Kitchen God "sweets' so that he will have "sweet" things to say about the family when he reports to the Jade Emperor. You must be the most fantastic Library teacher in whole world. Sounds fantastic! PS. What are you giving up for Lent this year? Nana! So good to 'hear/see' you again. Feels like it's been ages. (Which is probably because I'm not spending a lot of time in the other topic at the moment.) Glad you enjoyed the Olympics! I did so too... Glad it's over again though; much more sleep now. ;D

Thanks for the great explanation, Amber. I think your English explanation was just fine. (Besides, I wouldn't have understood the Dutch. ) I'm not so sure that it is easy in the United States, however. With only two political parties (and especially with one of them in significant disarray and captive to extreme opinions) the lack of actual options is a real problem. It doesn't really allow for pressure if people go elsewhere. The lack of movement by Democrats on gay rights is an example of this. There isn't somewhere else that many can put there political support without throwing the election to a party that would be even worse. So multiple major and serious parties with significant political power would be quite nice to have. I guess there really isn't a perfect political system (which is probably also a good thing). So the nephew is up and about. He'll never look back. I find it so interesting how often kids just really surprise their parents when they reach a milestone like walking. And thanks about the photos. Oh, and Neand, where have you been? So quiet again....

Hi folks... no need to go fainting on me... it's okay if you feel lightheaded though ;D ;D ;D Sorry for being away so long. My excuses: 1. The Olympics... as you know I don't have cable (if you didn't, now you do)-- so neanderthalish of me. So I hadn't been watching, other than the odd clip on V (the absolute worst TV channel ever to disgrace the airwaves -- its only saving grace: it broadcasts Merlin). So to make a long story longer... I discovered that CTV had the whole thing on the net... all free of charge... you can guess what happened... I spent an inordinate amount of hours switching from one event to the next... then watching clips in between... thus an addict was born. I still had to deal with RL though... at times reluctantly I'll admit. Let me proclaim that I loved every second of every minute... sports have always been an important part of my life, so it was not very difficult to dive in. And the fact the Canadians did so well certainly contributed to my nearly compulsive behaviour. When the whole thing ended, I went through a withdrawal phase... ::)what was I going to do? 2. RL caught up with me... that answers the previous question. B2's bday (lovely); Ni4's mid-term break; parish work (however challenging that might be); volunteer work (love, love, love it). 3. Weather... sublime... so walk I did (nearly ODing on vitamin D... ;D)) Next week is my artsiest week in a long time... Concert on Sunday (Tango quintet - Guardia Nueva), Modern dance Show on Thursday (Schème Danse), Play on Friday (Pi)... Then I'll be away for a week (Québec City here I come) visiting friends and family. Granted it's not cast in concrete yet. amber thanks for all the explanations... I understand what you mean when you say it would have been easier in Dutch... I feel the same way... it would be so much simpler writing things in French. But you did a wonderful job. Isn't Wiki great? ;D Émilie doesn't walk yet, and she's turning ONE on the 14th. Am I expecting too much? restenergy I'm still around... will be in touch. Are you enjoying the new equipment? Is work keeping you very busy? I Love Thore Nice having you around. I was so pleased to read your reaction to the two young guys holding hands. It would be such a wonderful world if everybody was like you. Nothing wrong with being a f**hag btw. nana29 what a pleasant surprise. You can keep dropping by anytime you feel like it. Time I call it a day... Take care one and all, JF

ILoveThore: I have a cute story like that too. I was at Uni the other day heading to the Medi Clinic and there are these like big puffy couch like things next to the glass walls on balconies on the second floor and each couch is in sort of an alclove. A lot of students use them to sleep on and I walked past one and just glanced over.
Two boys (they can't have been much older than maybe 19-20, I'm 23 so everyone younger than me I call a kid) are lying on one of the couchs curled up together fast asleep.
I stood there starring at them for a good 5 mins before one of them started to stir and saw me standing there. He looks at me and goes "Do you have a problem with something?"
I'm like "You guys are so fucking adorable." he just smirked, kissed the top of the other boys head and closed his eyes again and said "Thanks".
I saw them again yesterday and the boy who I talked to waved at me, so I waved back.
And btw I am totally there with the whole f**hag thing, I attract gay guys like a magnet now if I could just bag a straight or bi guy for myself I'd be a little less cynical ;D
Currently watching City of Ember and now I think I need to read the books, but first I have to read The Forest of Hands & Teeth.
Also does anyone know anything about the University of Saskachewan? I'm looking into it but I'm wondering if anyone actually knows how the University is.

Yeah me too, where are the straight guys? All the gay guys I know think I am fabulous and wonderful... but at times I seem invisible to straight guys! Could you really date someone bi? In thought it sounds awesome, but I am not sure I could in reality (But hey, if Christian can.... ).. No offense to anyone who is Bi!

ILoveThore: I know! I am completely invisible to straight guys for the most part, the only straight guys I have ever attracted are my creepy next door neighbour, one of my best friends (him (Tails), his older brother (Fox) and me are like bff and they help me write my stories, if you've read my oneshots you've read some of their stuff), and this guy who I went to high school with who used to hit on gay guys to make other straight guys uncomfortable, everyone knew he was straight he just said "I flirt with everyone why wouldn't I flirt with them too" (he really did, we dated on & off for 3 years and he flirted with everyone you couldn't help but love him).
And yes I could date a Bi guy (I've done it before) and with a bi guy they're okay with me watching Chrolli and DeRo and all those movies and writing the stuff I write and since I'm Bi it's easier on me because I don't have to explain myself (straight guys are so hard to explain that too, they just don't seem to get it).
Fireflies: They were adorable!!! I think when he saw me starring at them he thought I was going to say something bad to them but no I just got caught up in the cuteness.

Ah okay. I understand how that would work well. Maybe I should get me one of those too. No weirdness over chrolli, or admitting that you find guy-on-guy hot. I guess I'd just be scared he'd be missing you-know-what. But I know it's prejudiced, and that ideally, and with bi people, bi doesn't mean they need both at the same time, but can go eiether way.... Isn't that the way it is? It's interesting...

ILoveThore: I find that it depends on how I am feeling at the time what kind of relationship I enter into. Sometimes I just meet a cute guy or girl and go from there but sometimes I'm just like "I cannot date a guy right now" or visa versa. What you mentioned above can happen sometimes (it happened to me and now he is happy with the guy he left me for and they are so adorable together I can't be mad, but another of my Bi exes is now dating another girl). And yes it is so much easier not to have to explain the Chrolli thing, but then again I do know a few straight guys that are okay with it but they don't see me in a romantic way so

^^ God MV, you're like.. a good person. Seriously, I don't think I could be genuinely happy for an ex AND still be friends with them AND not have feelings of either jealousy or envy. That takes some kind of buddha zen like centeredness/ self awareness. Perhaps i shall meditate more... (and by more i mean...start). buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/93461?fp=1anyway just thought i'd share this and freaking RANT about how NY could Allow DC to beat us on this... WTF?! Seriously NY? Seriously? get your ACT together!!

Thunderkat: Well he is just a generally fantastic person and I can't hate him for not wanting me, I just can' I'd rather I had him in my life in some capacity than not at all (though since he moved away we haven't spoken very often but I saw him a week ago when he came to visit a friend and it just felt lovely to talk to him and catch up). If I can forgive Fox for breaking my heart, I can forgive anybody
