TTFN = ta ta for now (I get it from Winnie the Pooh's bouncy friend Tigger and the cartoon versions) Thanks... I'm more of a Paddington man myself... ;D Lovely photographs... Love the Mailbox (yours?) and the blue birdfeeder... The Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal ( Montreal Symphony Orchestra) is coming to town for one concert on Feb. 19th. I wish I could afford a ticket, but I can't see myself shelling out 125$ (cheapest ticket). Thank goodness there's going to be a live transmission at the Holiday Inn (within walking distance from my place). Don't know how much they're going to charge. Will find out tomorrow. momnoc going somewhere? Don't forget your high heels. With Lent soon upon us, will we be looking at another 40 momnocless days? thinking of you, jf Gotta go... Opening ceremonies starting in a bit. Take care one and all, JF

$125 for a ticket for an orchestra concert? Wow. (And it really doesn't get any better when I convert it to US dollars, either.) Is it a benefit concert or something? Hope you get to hear it even if not in the hall itself.
All the snow photos were taken at my parent's house, the house I grew up in.
I like Paddington, too. But I have a soft spot for Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore.

aft/eve/nite/morn o&a This is turning out to be our weirdest winter (?) ever... we're going through a third warm spell... a first according to the meteorologists... and this one is going to last well into next week. The further south you go the colder it gets... Blame it all on El Nino. restenergy re. concert: yes, it's a benefit concert in aid of Le Transit (a regional Family Support Centre). No doubt it's a worthy cause, but I wonder how many people can afford the prices ($200 and $125). The live transmission will be held in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn (I just checked with them)... free of charge... WOW... Colour me NOT IMPRESSED. Sure looks like your parents have got a fair bit of land... What a wonderful place to be raised, provided one is into the outdoors that is. Are you and OH doing anything special on Valentine's Day? Have a great week-end, JF *waves*

My parents lot is actually not especially large, more or less a typical suburban sized lot for a ranch-style house. It probably looks much bigger because to one side (behind the bird feeder) is a lilac hedge. To the rear of the house is a dead end street that comes straight at the back yard, and bunches of trees where it has a right angle a half block away. So it easily looks bigger than it is, especially when everything is covered in white. But it is certainly nice place to have grown up. A live feed in the parking lot, in Quebec, in February? Yes, not really impressive. Although I'd be colored unimpressed rather than coloured unimpressed. Canadians spell funny, but otherwise it's a great country. ;D I just checked, its almost 10 degrees Farenheight (5 degrees Celcius) warmer in Janquière than it is here in Marshfield. How strange, indeed.

restenergy snow tends to erase boundaries... don't really know where a lot ends and another one begins. Tell me, is the mailbox your parents'? I just love it.
Don't you feel even less impressed when you're coloured unimpressed? ;D We do write funny. Actually, some of us do and some of us don't, depending on which Empire you root for I guess. ;D I personally s the z, ll the l, c the s and re the er but I will anaesthetize (talk about split personality: the Brit ae, but the US z)... is it any wonder that sometimes I have no idea whether I'm coming or going? ;D ;D
Re. concert: I suspect they are of the opinion that if we can spend hours ice-fishing, then what's two hours watching a live feed?
sheepie how's the head today?
The shovelling has done me in... time to call it a night.
Take care one and all, JF

Yep, the mailbox is my parent's. My mom has some wraps for it, at least the Christmas one you saw and one with fall leaves for autumn. I'm glad you like those. I do to.
Now, if FedEx would arrive, I could have my new laptop.... *taps foot impatiently*

Alright, I'm back. Again. ;D How's everyone? I just realised I hadn't posted here since February 1st. That's a long time by my standards. (Edit: I just saw I did gave a shout out on Febuary 10th. So not all that bad after all. )Not that life has been very interesting since then. Just busy with work, family stuff and forum duties. O, there was one thing: a good friend of mine obtained her doctorate and it was the first time I was witness to someone defending a doctoral dissertation. I was sooooo proud of her. Oh, and the party afterwards was great fun too. ;D Too bad I had to work the day after... Neand - Congrats about becoming a great-uncle again! Great news!! Everything all right with the mom-to-be? (PS. Is Émilie getting a little brother or is one of your other nieces getting a little one?) Sorry to hear you couldn't make that much pictures during your visit to the snow-sculptures. Real glad to hear you had a great time though! I can still remember your pictures of last year and the beautiful weather it was then. The 'Cooking While Drunk' extract: ;D Lol, hope it's okay that I laughed really loud when hearing that supersad song you posted. ;D I could almost see you sitting there with a guitar and a cowboy hat. To the CT's Merlin Triplets: Le Morte d'Arthur was excellent... I'm this close to getting hooked. Thing is I don't know when V ( that's the TV channel I watch the show on) will start showing Season 2. If you want I can show you were to watch or download the second series or send them to you myself. Just let me know. Oh, and we decided to ban the forum member that was giving us headaches. We endured it for another week after he returned from the temporary ban and after that we decided that enough was enough. Louisa - My Merlin collection is once again complete. ;D My Vol. 2 DVD box came last week, so YAY! O, and if you see that giant yellowy shiny glowy ball of light in the sky again: tell it to come and shine here too. I'm missing it very, very, very much... Restenergy - I already congratulated you on Facebook, but again: Congrats on the picture being published! Well done! The weather over here is just rainy and dreary. Really looking forward to Spring. And over there in Wisconsin? The package has arrived. I have a shiny new MacBook. ;D softfurbear - Well done on the map! Great to see! Sheepie - You already crossed the 2000 posts line? And I wasn't there to celebrate. Well, congrats to you now. B-chick - to you! Hope life is getting less hectic. At least you have the Olympics to watch and relax to. Princess O. - You still knew how to find this forum? Joking! Glad you decided to drop by. And again congrats on the big news. Neand: I have heard of L'Morte de Arthur and have wanted to see it but it doesn't play on any of the channels I have on my TV, do you know if it is available online? Try it over here. And for anyone looking for links of all the episodes so far: this is a great place to start looking. And YAY for maybe going to Scotland! Sounds like a fantastic plan! Mom! - How was the trip to the desert? Surely you'll have something interesting to tell about that... Mikey - Did I miss your birthday? Sorry about that! Belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!! Hope you had a great day! Anddddddddddddddd... Now I'm going back to watching the 1000m speedskating for women. And doing a live chat with my friend in Switzerland at the same time.

BREAKING NEWS WELL KNOWN SCOTTISH ENTREPENEUR SEEN DRIVING HIS BRAND NEW PEUGEOT AROUND THE YORKSHIRE DALES. Our sources at TGoDT Media reveal that Mr Sheepie seems ready to expand his Prick 'n Ping Pub & Grill Chain. It appears that studies carried out by the A & A Market Research Firm (Mr Sheepie's Firm of choice - "I appreciate their hands-on approach" he once said) indicate that the area would be ideal. Rumour has it the entrepeneur is set to sell his Scottish Manor (considering the monies recently invested to add a number of bedrooms to the Manor, one might feel tempted to feign surprise - but given that the Manor has been plagued with recurrent water and heating problems - one will refrain). Will Mr Sheepie, he of the legendary wit, soon become a permanent fixture around these parts? Only time will tell. jf reporting

Hello AMBER... nice having you back. I could have sung the song myself, but I can't face being cyberlynched. Re. great-nephew (Ni2 again... she told me last fall that she wanted another child right away...) Re.Olympics: 1000m speedskating (your girls did very well: silver and bronze... congratulations)... I'll admit it was too close for comfort there... Christine Nesbitt hadn't lost a race all season... so she seemed a shoe-in to win... but boy was it close... I was sure she had lost the race with 400m to go. A young girl from my neck of the woods won the silver medal in the 500m short-track (nobody expected her to do this well... she just moved up from the Junior ranks - ok... she was world junior champion last year, but still). Re. banned member: hard to understand how people can be so weird. Having been banned once already, you'd imagine he/she would have learned his/her lesson. I can only hope he/she didn't hurl abuse at you. I can't send sunshine your way, but if it's warm weather you're after, give me a sign... I WANT WINTER. It seems Facebook is the place to be... but I simply can't bring myself to join... it is way outside my comfort zone (a couple of strange stories around these parts made me even more leery). Re. Merlin: I'll be in touch. I've checked viewers' ratings for each episode... and season 2's ep ratings are all above 9... much better than season 1's. Okay... time to call it a night, and I still have the dishes to do... can't stand waking up to dirty dishes (I don't have a dishwasher).
Take care one and all, JF

Yes, watching the 1000m women was much less frustrating that the 1000m for men the day before (4th, 5th and 6th place). Congrats to Christine Nesbitt though; she really deserved to win: she was the best this season. But I agree: it was a really, really close call. My mind went all: Huh? Since when is Jenny Wolf Canadian? But then I realised that you were talking about the 500m short-track. I really must pay better attention. ;D Re. people hurling abuse at us because of banning: I must have gotten some elephant skin these last four years because I must confess that it doesn't affect me (anymore). Other then that it annoys me. ;D (I do get very angry when someone hurls the abuse to one of my fellow mods like this one did. Especially since he is one of the most decent and honest men I've ever met, so the accusations weren't justified at all. But ey, all is well again now. ;D Winter for you... And for me. Sounds like a deal. ;D Have no problems with FB so far. Although of course you have to realise that it is still a very public place. So all is set to private and then you still have to remember that it isn't smart to post personal details. But as long as you keep that in mind it's all right and an easy way to keep at least in touch with some people. Re. Merlin: I enjoyed the second series much more than the first. Oh, and for those who hadn't seen it yet on the Blog: Thought it was quite original... ;D

Ah great. The Dutch Cabinet fell tonight. Not a big surprise though and I'm still surprised they survived for almost 3 years, but still... I abolutely dread the new elections and the campaigning that comes with it... At the moment I have no faith at all in the common sense of a lot of voters here and I'm really scared we're going to be stuck with this guy. *shudders*

Morning folks... yesterday was pretty busy with cooking, Centre de Jour, rushing to get concert tickets, rushing home to have supper, rushing to get to the concert's live feed venue (about a 30-minute walk). There would have been no need to rush had the concert started at 20:00 (8PM)... but because the orchestra was catching a plane back to Montréal at 22:10 (as long as they were back at Place des Arts before midnight, then no overtime needed be paid... very tight budget - strange but true unfortunately. I wonder how the musicians felt about it ;D). So anyway, concert started at 19:00 (7PM), hence the rushing. Turned out I need not have bothered getting tickets... no one asked for them. No problem really. There were about 300 people each going through her/his own dance routine to keep warm, all the while moving about seeking slush-free spots (it had rained earlier in the afternoon). At precisely 19:00 Maestro Nagano raised his baton, and at precisely 19:00 the freezing drizzle started... major crowd movement... umbrellas popped open (a most extraordinary sight... at 19:00, in February, in Saguenay). Now... don't know how many of you have attended those rock/heavy metal concerts where the basic idea is to have the volume so loud it alters your hearing and numbs your brain... so you can't notice how bad the band really is... that's what it felt like last night... AAAARGH!!! Tuque on, parka hood up, hands over ears (the hell with the umbrella)... nothing doing... no way could we escape the noise onslaught and more importantly the vibrations which, via the frozen ground, insidiously reached for our innards and, I am nearly certain, may have affected one's reproductive capabilities (I could have been a good dad you know ). So after 25 minutes I decided that enough was enough... why wait so long? I kept hoping that the people responsible would realize the error of their ways and lower the volume. Guess what... I heard the music all the way home. The best seat in the house? My back porch. Who would have thought. It was actually pretty nice. ;D amber I read both articles... Geert Wilders demagogue like him thrive on fear; they feed on political, economical and social uncertainties, and know exactly how to exploit people's emotions. Is this still in his program? -> Replacement of the present Article 1 of the Dutch constitution, guaranteeing equality under the law, by a clause stating the cultural dominance of the Christian, Jewish and humanist traditions.-> An immigration ban of five years for immigrants from non-western countries. Foreign residents will no longer have the right to vote in municipal elections. How long is the campaign going to last? Good luck. Your friend got her Ph.D. in what? How many people attended? It must have been quite an experience. It's great when you can witness the result of all the hard work. No wonder you're proud. I'll probably post a few pics later... take care one and all, JF

amber Mark Tuitert's gold... wonderful news. After everything he's been through... well deserved. I felt really bad for Stefan Groothuis... he looked so dejected. Do you know if they're both going to be in the team pursuit? I want Stefan to get a medal.

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! Sorry, am a bit excited. ;D We just had anoter Dutch gold medal winner. Just like yesterday. Ah. So worth staying awake for... (Although I think I won't mind the more reasonable time difference during the next Winter Olympics ) Also, I just found out today's winner is gay; her girlfriend (Dutch short trackster; also on the Olympic team) congratulated her first after winning and I was all ; did I miss something? Although I must say it doesn't come as a complete surprise, it's just that I completely missed her coming out of the closet last autumn apparently. So double YAY! for her! Sorry that Grooves didn't make it Neand! Luckily she did win the silver medal... Before the race they broadcasted a great little summer special featuring Grooves. (We had several this week; among them one of Jeremy Wotherspoon. Great guy...) Are you watching the ice hockey game Canada vs. US? I'm told it's THE game to watch. Re. the concert on the parking lot: I think it's still impressive that you lasted 25 minutes. Lol, good to hear you found out that the best place to listen to it turned out to be your own back porch. ;D See? There's no place like home. I have no idea if Wilders' program is still the same, but I guess it is. I really fear those new elections; it's not going to be pretty. His party is bad, but to be honest: there are a lot more politicians who are just screen polution imho. Whenever I see or hear them bickering on tv I can't change the channel fast enough. They're just like little children... My friend got her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences. Totally not my thing, but thanks to a short explanation speech beforehand I understood at least a little bit of it. I think there were about a hundred people present? I'm not really sure about that though. Louisa - My first thought was the same as Sheepie's: Do you also have enough cat food? The shiny glowy ball hasn't made an appearance here either. Just a lot a rain. *sigh* Lol, if you're already that happy with the cover then the contents of the dics must have made you estatic. ;D Sheepie - Uhm... No, not watching a lot of shows these days. I really want to catch up, but I'm so far behind on everything... I watched some OLTL this week and I intend to watch GZSZ this week, because that's going to be good. (I hope ) Most of my 'tv' time at the moment goes to the Olympics though. Lots of speedskating to watch. ;D

Do you know if they're both going to be in the team pursuit? I want Stefan to get a medal. Yes, it was a wonderful race to watch. I set my alarm last night so I could watch it and that was so worth it. I totally expected Shauni Davis to win and I honestly wouldn't have mind if he did. For some reason I love him. He's a really quiet guy, but also very honest and fair. Personally I like him much better than Chad Hedrick, but that's just a personal opinion. I felt a little bit bad for Stefan as well; especially since he came in 4th on the 1000m. Being in 4th place always sucks. But to be honest: I'm really, really glad Mark won. After all those years and all the set backs it's something he really deserved. And it's such a lovely guy. I don't know if Stefan is going to take part in the group pursuit. I know Sven Kramer and Mark Tuitert will be (at least: I don't see how they couldn't be ), but the rest is still a mystery I guess. We'll see.
