The dark side of the Force... I think the thing that bothers me the most about the whole Clary, Jace, Johnathan thing is how poorly it has been executed. Especially when it is seen in direct juxtaposition to how Malec is handled. It's like there are two sets of writers (which may be the case) and they don't talk to each other let alone read what the others have written. For me personally I would have preferred Will Tutor to still be playing Johnathan. I believe he gave a more layered performance, that his interactions with both Dom and Kat were better (even though unfortunately I believe Kat is out of her depth), he also gave a far more sympathetic portrayal of the torment Jonathan suffered from being abandoned by his father and then tortured by Lilith. I think that Luke wanted to be different from Will and in so doing has made him in my opinion just creepy with no depth whatsoever. Which is unfortunate because the character had potential to be a sympathetic tragic villain. One whom you don't agree with what they are doing but you understand why they are doing what they are doing.
Never say never.... As I have said before I don't particularly care about Sizzy. I'm not opposed to it, it just doesn't really interest me as I think for the entire run or the show, Izzy has been underwritten as well as (aside from the addiction story line) underdeveloped as a character. And I'm guessing that since we are coming to the end with only one episode left and then the two hour series finale the following week that we probably aren't going to see Raphael again...I'm guessing him being human again is the end of his story arch.
Has some one been watching Vampire Dairies... I'm sorry but the whole vile with the "CURE" and who gets to have it is just a bit too deja vu all over again for me. Been there, seen that, didn't care the first time.
Love goes by haps, some Cupid kills with arrows, some with traps... Now we come to the meat of it. The flashbacks were wonderful and it really let us all see just how much Magnus loves and is in love with Alec. His pain through this whole episode was palpable. Magnus has been in love before, had great loves, but I don't think he's ever allowed himself to need anyone because he always knew how it would end. And so he distanced himself from his past loves as a way of protecting himself when the inevitable happened. I think this relationship was the first time where he wasn't the one who was primarily taking care of the other. Even with this colossal mistake that Alec just made he did it as a way to take care of Magnus. He did it completely underestimating his own worth as a partner, lover and friend to Magnus. And it's not going to be addressed because there is no time, but how Alec views his own worth is a direct result of how his parents treated him in comparison to Jace as they were growing up. And we got hints of that in the first season.
Magnus' father is a manipulative bastard, but he's a smart one. Once he realized how much Magnus loved Alec he knew he had a way in. He knew causing Magnus this much pain would allow him the opportunity to crawl his way back into Magnus' life. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he made it look like Magnus' mother killed herself just so that he could come in and play hero to his son as he's doing now.

What's love got to do with it... Since it is such a big part of this final season and the final episodes, I really wish I cared about that whole Clary, Jonathan, Jace thing. Instead I find myself either concentrating on my crocheting or cross stitching when they are on screen.
Enter fighter one... I simply don't buy that Clary would be a better fighter than Izzy who has been training practically all of her life. Especially, since Kat looks so stiff when doing the fight scenes.
Looking over the river Jordan... I liked Mia and Jordan together, I really hated to see him go out the way he did. But I'm guessing his passing will make her a better leader.
Kiss already... Not that I'm too invested in the relationship or the characters, but come one Simon, kiss her already.
Maryse...that is all I love the journey that Maryse has taken over the course of the three seasons. She has gone from hating Magnus and looking down her nose at the Downworld. To being the biggest supporter of Magnus and his relationship with her son. I'm so glad that it was her to went to find Magnus and that it was her to figured out what happened.
My bounty is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep, the more I give to thee the more I have for both are infinite... I've said it before but whoever it writing for Malec, has to be watching a different show then the people writing for Clace. The execution and the effect is drastically different. Yes, Alec should have talked to Magnus before making such a huge decision that affected them both so deeply. However, his reason for doing it was a selfless one. For him it is more important that Magnus feel whole the way Magnus give up his magic to save Jace to keep him whole. Both were selfless acts that shows the depth of their love and commitment to each other. Both were done without thinking about how it would really effect them but with the end result in mind. So that when they say hey love each other it doesn't come across as shallow or one dimensional.
When Magnus asks Alec to marry him as he's about to make another sacrifice, because of their history and the love they have for each other it was as beautiful and touching as it was sad. And watching Alec completely falling apart once Magnus was gone was heartbreaking. And that' because their relationship (even with it's supernatural elements) has been rooted in a very real place and given a strong foundation.

Damn, that ending was sad. Reunited only to be torn apart moments later. The emotional high of getting engaged followed by the realization of being separated, possibly forever. I hated seeing Alec's heart break like that. I suppose it was necessary given the circumstances, but that doesn't make it suck any less. I very much hope that they have some kind of a happy ending in next week's finale. I had been wondering how Magnus would find out what had happened It was nice to see Maryse try to find out why Alec broke up with him. "When did you get your magic back?" .. Oh. I loved seeing Magnus' realization of what happened, and Maryse showing him the ring and what it meant. The mix of feelings he must have had in that instant. I had been really curious how Magnus would deal with Asmodeus. I expected it to be volatile, so I quite enjoyed seeing Magnus send him to the abyss like that. I, too, didn't like that they killed off Jordan. I started to like the idea of Maia and Jordan. I don't know why they keep dancing around Simon & Izzy. Maybe it was written and shot before they knew the show was going to end? There's a lot to wrap up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the guys will have a happy ending.

Well, thus ends Shadowhunters. I'm sad to see it end, but I'm happy the guys' story ended on a high note. It was really nice to see the wedding and reception be the backdrop for that much of the final episode. During the wedding I kept thinking back to that episode where Alec almost married that woman (I forget her name). I loved the vows, the mix of traditions. I'll be honest, I was surprised that Magnus has never been married before. And then the guys moved to Alicante .. along with the apartment. I must admit I didn't expect that. The Clave's change of heart regarding downworlders feels a bit contrived, but at the end I'll give them a pass. I forgot about Max, and Alec's father. How long has it been since we've seen them? Wow. As for the stories ... the mission to rescue Magnus from Edom was a lot shorter than I expected. And the way they dealt with Lilith was really fast. I guess they had to wrap things up quickly but it felt a bit rushed. Kind of like how they resolved Jonathan's story. But unlike how long they dragged out Valentine's antagonism early in the series. Wow, Alec was willing to become a vampire to be able to go to Magnus. Yikes. It was kind of fun to see Jace be unable to lie, if only for a bit. Speaking of the bonding rune, that whole plot point vanished really fast after they returned. Wait, Raphael joined a seminary? Whoa. Lastly ... I'm not surprised Clary started to remember Jace at the end. I've never been terribly interested in their romance, but was really glad to see them start to reconnect. The main cast basically all got happy endings. It was a really nice way to end.

Okay, so........that's a lot to unpack
Let me just start by saying that I'm really glad the show got a chance to wrap things up. Most shows that get cancelled don't get the chance to say a proper goodbye to fans.
Sizzy It felt a bit rushed, but considering they had to cram into this last two and a half hours what should have taken most of if not all of season four to develop, one has to take what one can get. I'm also glad we got some sort of resolution when it comes to Raphael. Although since Magnus was kind of like a father to him, they could have squeezed in one short scene between them
Never trust a big butt and a smile... So big bad Johnathan who we see go through this painful change in which his humanity is supposedly stripped away from him, gets taken out by a hug and a rune drawn in Clary's hand. Cause that's not anti-climatic at all. And I know they were short on time, but come on. A lot of time was essentially wasted in 3B trying to make Johnathan a sympathetic villain (which didn't work for me) and this is how he goes out. "Clary you're hurting me." If I were more interested in that story line the way it ended would have pissed me off.
We're off to see the wizard... I loved how everyone, including Lorenzo went to save Magnus. The reason I singled out Lorenz is because he had the furthest distance to travel and a relatively short time in which to do it. I like that he really helped Alec when they got to Edom. I liked that he and Magnus did do a little team up to try and stop Lilith. And the conversation in Magnus' apartment was really good because it showed just how far Lorenzo had come. He'd been jealous that Magnus' father was a prince of hell and thus felt he was shown special attention because of it. When he saw how far people (not just Alec) were willing to go to save Magnus he realized Magnus has something he himself has always wanted...a family. He looked to happy to be invited o the wedding as he looked genuinely happy for Alec and Magnus at the wedding.
He ain't heavy...he's my brother. I wish during the course of the show they'd spent just a little more time on the relationship between Alec and Jace. I think they really missed out on showing us how deep and even complicated that relationship is. They hinted at it during the first season and then dropped it, which is unfortunate.
Robert oh, Robert, where art thou.... It was nice to see Robert and Max again. I'm glad that Alec wanted his father with him when he got married. But it was really sweet that he asked his mother if she was going to be alright with Robert there.
Maryse...that is all... Her growth during this show has been wonderful to watch. I absolutely loved that she walked Magnus down the aisle showing us that he really is part of the family and she loves him like a son.
Forget me not... So Clary's punishment for drawing runes on her own was that she had to forget the shadow world and more importantly Jace. I really do wish I cared more about the character. I really wish the actress had been better as executing her lines and expressing the feeling that were suppose to draw us in. To me her final moments as a Shadowhunter just came off as campy and over acted.
Introducing the Lightwood-Bane's or the Bane-Lightwoods's... I just love everything about this couple. Are there moments when I got frustrated by choices they made? Yes. But, I always understood where these choices came from. They are by no means perfect, which was illustrated by some of the choices they made, but they are perfect for each other. The relationship between Magnus and Alec was sweet, honest, loving, self-sacrificing and always steady. They never completed each other, but they enhanced each others strengths and strengthened each others weaknesses. It was a jarring juxtaposition than that of the relationship between Jace and Clary which to me (aside from Kat's acting) is what made rooting got Clace impossible. I'm really going to miss Malec. I'm going to miss how their story could have progressed if given more time. But how they ended the series, even if a bit rushed, still shows the care and love the writers had for the characters.

I'm sorry to see this show end. It was basically the only supernatural-themed show which did right by its gay characters. I kept hoping another network would pick them up for another season or, better yet, a Malec-centric spin-off, but I guess it was not to be. At least they got a happy ending and the show made their wedding the celebratory central event of the finale.
