I don't like the red hair actress nothing against her personally, she just over acts and doesn't hold a candle to the other actors.

She is the worst and if I had the skills and time I would edit her out of every episode so I can just enjoy the rest of the show. The actress and the character are awful.

So that happened....
Clace... oh and Johnathan
I still could care less about what happens to any of them.
I'm so sick of it being shoved down my throat how much Jace and Clary are "supposed" to love each other. It's like if they have the characters say it enough chemistry between the actors will develop....uh....nope....in three seasons...NOPE...a whole lotta NOPE.
Johnathan....being creepy isn't enough to build an entire character on. And that's all I have to say about that.
Sizzy...What's love got to do with it?
I guess since they can't find love with anyone else, they will end up finding love with each other. I mean after all she did risk delving back into her addiction to save his life. And he just drank a vat of black blood (which couldn't have been a good thing and one would think would have some adverse side effects) to save her. So I guess...yay Sizzy.
Malec....the main event...
I honestly only sit through this show for Malec.
They have been the only pairing that one has made sense, and two has developed over time. They actually talk to each other. And while like Jace and Clary they make declarative statements about their love for one another, because of the development and because of the actual chemistry between the actors I believe them. To watch Alec's interaction with Lorenzo and see him go from anger to begging for Magnus' life was touching. You felt (or at least I did) his heart breaking and how devastated he would be if Magnus died. Not just devastated, but it would destroy him. And again that's because of the development of the characters over three seasons and the palpable chemistry between Matthew and Harry.
The dance scene was priceless.
The first hospital scene where Alec is literally wringing his hands and apologizing for being selfish because he believed too quickly that Magnus was okay with losing his magic. The fact that he admitted he believed it because for the first time he actually thought they'd be able to grow old together. This leads me to believe before the end of the series he's going to do something that helps Magnus get his magic back. Because unlike Clary and Jace who are willing to sacrifice other people for their love. Magnus and Alec are willing to self sacrifice for their love.
Further evidence of this was shown in this episode, because clearly Magnus didn't want to give up the magic Lorenzo had given him even if it might cost him his life. However, he did it because he saw how terrified Alec was of losing him. To a lesser degree in this episode Alec puts aside his anger and his pride and begs Lorenzo to save the man he loves because he can't live without Magnus.

Malec killed me in this episode (well they always do, I'm honest) but last episodes scenes were amazing. And the acting was super. I will miss them as I rarely miss couples when the show they are in is over. Matt and Harry have amazing chemistry and it would be great to see them working together in other projects. I would say more and more about malec but I will limit myself quoting your words cause they really reflect my opinions too. I'm sure next episodes will be super interesting, especially when it comes to Malec's storyline...there will be angst for sure but at least we are gonna get happy ending for Malec. That's what those 2 amazing characters deserve

This just shows me once again that Magnus Bane should have been the central character around which the world of Shadowhunters swirls.

As Cassandra Clare reveals in an interview to launch her new Malec-centric book series, when this story was first written, the world was not ready for a gay lead character in a fantasy novel aimed at teens/young adults. Even having a gay couple as supporting characters caused her a lot of grief and she was disinvited from speaking at school events because Malec was deemed inappropriate for kids.

Yeah, I'm enjoying the development between Magnus and Alec. When Alec told his Marys (sp?) what he plans to do, I thought back to how she initially reacted when Alec first took up with Magnus, and how she reacted to his news in the latest episode.
While I liked that Alec was able to convince Lorenzo to help, I did get the feeling that Magnus is still going to have big problems over his magic. Still, it's good that they're (at least somewhat) talking about what's driving them.

Even having a gay couple as supporting characters caused her a lot of grief and she was disinvited from speaking at school events because Malec was deemed inappropriate for kids. This may be true. But I would wager (if I did that sort of thing) that a bigger issue when it came to Cassandra Clare getting published the first time had more to do with her plagiarizing large sections of JK Rowling's Harry Potter series, since these books started as Harry Potter fanfic, with Jace being Drako and Clary being one of Ron Wesely's(sp?) sisters. And from what my daughters have told me, (one of which read all of the books the other who couldn't get through them because of the lack of character development and repetitiveness of story lines her words not mine) the show has changed a lot about Malec. In that the show has matured Alec not only by aging him, but also emotionally. In the books apparently he was extremely jealous and a bit bi-phobic. Their major break up had to do with Alec trying to find a way to take Magnus' magic to make him mortal (at the last moment he couldn't go trough with it) and Magnus finding out about it. There was a lot of Alec wanting to know things and Magnus not telling him. Which I am so glad the show decided not to go that route. Communication was apparently a thing between Malec in the books, which I'm glad the show has decided no to make the issue between them. I think because most of their relationship took place off page(until the Bane Chronicles), the show had an opportunity which I'm glad they took to expand and deepen the characters. I just wish that one they had gotten actors who had enough chemistry together to pull off what they Jace and Clary are supposed to be to one another, and two they had taken more of an opportunity to develop each character separate from each other and then as a couple.

The show on ABC Family or Freeform has always been a VERY different animal than the book series (for better or worse) and both iterations of the network have always been super gay friendly. But from what I've read Magnus Bane has always stood out as a favorite character even in the book series. We shall see what the future holds. Jace when he is not involved with Alec is just one note and boring (in the film and the TV series). Which is a shame because I actually really like Dominic as an actor and he has loads of chemistry with everyone except the actress who plays Clary. The scenes he had with his on-screen father were 100% more romantic and sexy than actual bed scenes with Katherine. Bless her heart.

One of my main problems with this show is that it hasn't taken advantage of the real chemistry that Dominic has with other actors on the show. I really wish the show had spent more time on the relationship between Alec and Jace because Dom and Matt have such great chemistry together and play off of each other so well. It's a shame that we really only have viewed their bond through Alec's eyes. To the point where it comes across to me that Alec cares and is way more invested in their bond that Jace is. I'm pretty sure that's not how it's supposed to look, but that's how it comes across. Kathrine is trying and it shows, which is a large part of the problem aside from her acting skills not being up to par with anyone on the show. It also shows that the relationship between Malec has been the most thought about when it come to development and depth.

Frankly, i remember an incident that it was not supergay friendly when Matt Daddario was doing an instagram live (or something like that) that made me question what was really the enviroment on that set I have always been a firm believer in just judging what I see on screen since I have no actual way of knowing what happens behind the scenes and it's not really relevant to the story being told. There have been actors on shows who hated each other but had to play lovers and we never knew it because they never let that affect their acting. What matters most to me is that Matt and Harry make me believe that Alec and Magnus are madly in love, would die for each other and are devoted to each other.

Frankly, i remember an incident that it was not supergay friendly when Matt Daddario was doing an instagram live (or something like that) that made me question what was really the enviroment on that set yeah. it was Dom that used a not very gay friendly word while Matt was doing a live on Instagram. He didn't know that Matt was live and called him in a certain way. Then Freeform made them made a video were Dom said to be sorry for that word. I genuinely believe that he was being honest with those apologies. People can make mistakes and also learn from those to even become better as person. Also that incident is not an indication of the entire environment that always shown a great support for anything and everyone LGBT. said that, Malec is amazing and Matt and Harry make this couple feel real. You can feel the love and devotion those two characters have for each others. And in 3b we can see this more. And I'm sure that next episodes will be full of love, angst, tears, smiles. Mix of feelings and I'm ready for that.

The main issue I have is that the show insists on pushing the narrative of Clace, when it is painfully clear the two actors have absolutely no chemistry on screen together. This is not helped by the fact that Kathrine is not that good of an actress or that we can see that Dom has chemistry with practically everyone else on the show. When Dom is with her, Jace becomes this one long annoying ass note. When he has scenes with anyone else you see layers in his character and you get to see nuance in Dom's acting.
Do I wish the show focused more on Malec? Hell yes. Because for whatever reason the writers seem to have taken time and care with the characters and have built on the on and off screen chemistry between Matt and Harry. I find myself wanting them (Malec) to have a happy ending becauee they deserve it and have grown so much as individuals and as a couple. We've watched over the course of three seasons Malec become this epic love story as opposed to be told they are an epic love story.
I could care less if Clace get a happy ending because I am in no way invested in their story. I don't like my love stories force fed to me.

I just watched a couple of videos online so i'm not in a position to judge, but i find their chemistry work better when there's absolutely nothing physical between them. Most kissed are Days of our lives type of kiss, with the mouth tightly shut. Of course that could perfectly be what the show wants ON the other hand the incident was far more than slipping a f** word in the middle of an instagram live. It was Dom, but it was pretty clear it was not the first time and by the reaction it was something usual. Matt even try to blame other people and hide what happened. I read an article about the risk of consider everyone who plays a gay character an straight ally, and i have to say that all that happened was a bit suspicious. I'm not anglosaxon so i have a lot less problems with words, in fact it's not rare in spain that people use that word in a non insulting context. And my main complain about straight actors playing gay roles is when they seem more focused of showing how straight they are on interviews than in telling you about the character of the show, and that was not the case with Matthew or Harry

We defy augury...
I understand what this episode was trying to do. I get that we are all now supposed to have some sort of sympathy for Jonathan, because of his back story. I get that we are now supposed to have a clearer picture of how Clary is being not just influenced by him but starting to feel responsible for him being the way he is. I get it....and I still don't care.
Don't get me wrong I can clearly see that Kathrine is trying. However, her acting ability isn't up to what the script is asking of her. And it never was, to me she just comes across as annoying.
As for Jonathan, again I don't care. He's still just creepy with no depth whatsoever. Even with some of the back story. I really wish they had kept Will as Jonathan to see how he would have played this because his performance was way more nuanced. As bad as Will's version of Jonathan was, I felt sympathy for him. To have your father send you to hell, to be burned and disfigured as a child, to have a twisted idea about what love is because of how he was raised gave me an understanding of why he was the way he was. Luke's version of Jonathan is so divorced from that it's almost painful to watch.
It is the cause...
I actually liked most of the Simon stuff. I liked seeing him being a badass and helping out his friends and lets face it the downworld. And you can see Izzy's feeling starting to grow for him. As well as her respect for him.
I don't care about Raphael and never have, but okay....that happened.
The course of true love never did run smooth...
Malec got two scenes in this episode. And in those two scenes there was more storytelling, more emotion, more depth, more everything than in any scene that Clary had with Jonathan, or Jace.
The fact that at the end all Alec waned to do was be there for Magnus and hold him as he broke down and cried. And you could see (or at least I could) how seeing the man he loves like this is tearing Alec apart, because as he told Magnus all he's ever wanted is to see him happy. And as we all have seen Alec takes these kinds of things on himself so he's going to do whatever he feels he has to in order to help Magnus feel whole again. I also think he's going to do it in part because he's going to feel like what he has to offer Magnus isn't enough.
And again only two scenes...

I would have liked to see a little more of Magnus trying to deal with the loss of his magic, outside his interactions with Alec. That was a really traumatic change for him and he clearly wasn't coping well. To be honest, before the last scene I thought Alec was being a bit selfish. I think part of him still liked the idea that Magnus was mortal (again) and they really could grow old together. He kind of assumed that Magnus was okay with the situation (the scene at the start of the episode) and maybe didn't question it. Still, I liked Alec consoling Magnus when Magnus finally broke down. I like seeing that they can lean on each other, and now Alec gets it. It is unfortunate that Alec's proposal is on hold for the time being. I wonder how far Alec will go to help Magnus.
As for the rest...
Perhaps some sympathy for Jonathan; I do feel a little bad for him considering his really messed up history. At the same time, I can't ignore the bad shit that Jonathan has done and he hasn't shown any real ability to grow past it. I don't see a realistic path for him right now other than imprisonment.
I've always liked Simon. I kind of liked him with Maia (sp?) but I guess they're going toward Izzy instead. I don't really have an opinion on that one.
I was a little surprised Simon didn't want to go through the same procedure as Raphael so he could get back to a normal life. I never really got the feeling he liked being a vampire. It's caused him some pretty big problems.

Brothers & Sisters...
I like that Simon still has a family connection. Even though I've never really cared for his character one way or the other, I did enjoy seeing his connection and interaction with his sister.
Sizzy...interuptous
So who didn't see that coming...
Team Evil...
Don't care. That is all.
The first cut is the deepest...
I read the comment Zathras posted last week saying that Alec was being selfish when he was going to propose to Magnus. I remember at the time thinking I didn't see it that way. Having thought about it and having seen this episode, I am more convinced that ever that Alec wasn't being selfish.
I think his wanting to propose to Magnus came from having seen him on the ground not breathing and without a heartbeat. And how terrified he was by that. I think it also came from a place of being hopeful that having a life with him could somehow ease some of Magnus' pain when it came to losing his magic. (I don't think that was selfish I think it was naive.) That the love they have for each other would somehow be enough. I think he wanted to believe Magnus when he told Lorenzo he had all he needed. That and the fact that until he got drunk he was putting on a good show in front of Alec.
Alec's conversation with Izzy shows how self-deprecating Alec is. He's willing to rip out his own heart in order to save the man he loves. He knows that Magnus only gave up his magic for him. Alec has only ever wanted to do the right thing, has only ever wanted Magnus to be happy and whole. I think the reason he looked so hurt when Asmodeous(sp) said that he was Magnus' weakness and that he would grow to resent Alec, is because he has probably had some of those same thoughts. Him telling Izzy that while breaking up with Magnus would hurt Magnus it's something he would get over, because he thinks of himself as one in a long line of relationships and loves that Magnus has had. That while Magnus is THE ONE for him, he isn't for Magnus nor he was never meant to be. He doesn't see himself as something special and unique in Magnus' life.
I'm really interested to see where this goes from here. Especially because there are only two episode and the two and a half hour rap up to go.

Oh, damnit, Alec. Up until the end I had hoped that he wouldn't go through with it. Especially after talking with Izzy & Jace, and watching Jace/Clary. And seeing Magnus be terrified of Alec leaving near the end. I hear what you're saying, LadyArmand. I get that he's insecure about his position with Magnus - being one in a long line of romances for Magnus. I would probably feel the same way. At the same time, he's making major decisions about their future without actually discussing anything with Magnus. That's kind of a sore point for me; I've really begun to hate that recurring theme in so many shows. I know it can be somewhat realistic for couples to not really talk about things, but it still seems designed more for dramatic tension. I wonder if the appearance of Asmodius will help Magnus understand what happened, before he does anything rash. At any rate, with the show coming to an end soon, we don't have long to wait for a reconciliation. So there's that. Lastly: of course Clary chose to follow Jonathan. Ugh.

I get what you are saying and usually that's sore spot for me as well. However, I see this as a unique situation. In that we've been shown in the past that Alec takes a lot on himself and that it weighs on him. The best example I have for this is when he was possessed and killed Clay's mother. Even though it wasn't his fault and no one blamed him or has ever blamed him, he blamed himself. So much so that in the next episode under the influence of magic (which Magnus pointed out only lowered his inhibitions)he was willing to jump off of a building because he felt it would make things better for Clary. The only thing that saved him was Magnus getting there in time because he was falling backward. Also, Magnus isn't being as forthcoming as he should be. Alec is learning things second hand or to be more accurate once things have hit the fan. Magnus didn't tell him he was going to Lorenzo to get his magic back. Once he had the magic back that's when Alec found out that Magnus didn't feel connected to anything (which could be interpreted as including Alec). He also didn't tell Alec that there could be side effects that could be deadly. He didn't tell Alec once he started feeling those side effect. When Alec told him that using the magic again even for something small could kill him, Magnus tired to brush it off. When Alec asked him if he was willing to die to keep the magic, he had yes, maybe. When Izzy pointed out that Magnus willingly gave up his magic to help Jace, Alec corrected her and told her that Magnus only did it for him. That Magnus knew he needed Jace to feel whole because of their parabatai bond. So in his eyes everything that is happening to Magnus right now is his fault. To hear the person you love tell you that they feel worthless, only good for comic relief and drinking. To hear him say that him being human is what Alec wanted and then have him struggle to get away from you then fall apart in your arms has to be very hard. Then to have Magnus try to brush the whole thing off the next day and say he was just drunk and it really isn't that bad, and he'll get over it had to be devastating. Because Alec knows its not true. I think Alec doesn't feel worth of the sacrifice Magnus made and he is seeing how Magnus is now as being evidence of that. Magnus' father was being a manipulative ass, but it only worked because knowing Alec all of that stuff has pass through his head before.

Well, I loved seeing the flashbacks of fun couple-y moments between the guys. So that was nice, despite the circumstances. I'd like to think that Alec would rethink what he means to Magnus if he could see how hard Magnus is taking it. I was a little frustrated by the first conversation between Magnus and Asmodius. It may be because I know what happened, but it felt like the conversation touched on so many clues that Magnus could have picked up on. Like the idea that there's always a cost when Asmodius does something (so what really was the cost for him to give Magnus back his magic?). Sigh. At first I didn't expect Asmodius to tell Magnus to keep the memories of Alec. But I suppose he did it so that Magnus would feel the need to lean on him. Now I'm curious how Magnus will react when the truth comes out (seems inevitable). In other events... So they did address Simon's feelings about using the serum. I wonder who will ultimately use that last vial. Or if nobody will. Why on earth did Jace take the Seelie drugs? It's not like he had anything to prove to Jonathan. Ugh.
