It was a good start to the season. I liked that Alec & Magnus communicated ... eventually. As long as that continues, it will be good. Poor Simon almost told Clary how he feels. I have a feeling that's going to continue to be a theme. I've forgotten what happened toward the end of last season, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around why Jace is doing what he's doing. I keep thinking Valentine is just manipulating him (and isn't his father) but I don't really know.

Its very hard for me to respond, because I've read the books and while certain things are different some things are canon. Just in case my statement is too spoilery: Valentine is the man who raised Jace, but there is definately a lot of manipulation. Also loving that Magnus and Alec are getting more "screen time" in the early stages of their relationship than in book.

"They’re going to get a little sweaty, they’re going to enjoy themselves a little bit, they’re going to argue sometimes but that’s normal." — Matt about Magnus and Alec’s relationship this season. Matt....... and his little teases

I am still loving Malec. And I think I liked Jocelyn better when she was unconscious.

I guess I don't have a strong opinion on Jocelyn one way or the other yet. It is nice to see Magnus looking out for Alec, though.

It's weird, because she CAN be likeable. She was in that first episode, and she even had one of the coolest shots of the series when she was coming down that dark hallway as a silhouette with her seraph blade in that episode as well. Once she comes around regarding Jace, they'll redeem her, hopefully.
But on a more important note, this show is fully embracing the appeal of Matt shirtless, and I will never get enough.

Fully agree - think they need to explore this some more in future episodes

Sneak Peek ep 4 : Alec Asks Magnus for a First Date So cute. 😍 And I am surprised they took so long to use that "battling demons" line. 🤓

Cool. Small steps, I guess. Yesterday I was almost tempted to think that Magnus' kiss might get Alec to wake up. Almost. I actually expected Magnus to joke that it was "worth a shot". Still it was nice that Magnus had looked after Alec for so long. I didn't realize (or had forgotten) that Alec had been in love with Jace for a long time. I knew he was at the start of season 1 but don't remember if they had talked about it at all. I also had to LOL when Simon told his mom: "My phone died, among other things." He really does need to tell the truth to his mom, and Clary too. I don't actually expect either to happen.

I know I keep bringing up the books, but Simon's journey is my favorite in the whole Mortal Instruments series. The timeline is definitely different, so I don't know how that will effect the Simon/Mom, Simon/Clary situation, which make it more interesting. Although I guess the whole situation with his mom had to be different because they were younger in the books. Either way, I'm looking forward to watching it play out. I wonder if they have a plan for the entire series. The first season was pretty much the first book with some exceptions (Simon turning, and the Malec relationship beginning to name a few). I hope the show doesn't get cancelled before they can tell the whole story, because I'm very curious about what they're going to do.

So how many books are there? Is the writer still writing new books? I'm curious if they'll try to follow the books (with some liberties) kind of like how The Walking Dead did until the show caught up with the books. (Assuming Shadowhunters stays on air long enough for it to matter, of course.)

So how many books are there? Is the writer still writing new books? I'm curious if they'll try to follow the books (with some liberties) kind of like how The Walking Dead did until the show caught up with the books. (Assuming Shadowhunters stays on air long enough for it to matter, of course.) The original Mortal Instruments series is 6 books, and is complete. Cassandra Clare also wrote companion books of shorter stories that have the characters in them. One is the Magnus Chronicles , where some of the stories have to do with his past, and parts his relationship with Alec that were not seen in the original series (which doesn't fit into the show because the relationship started differently). Another, Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy takes place after the 6th book, but explaining that is too spoilery (hopefully, if they don't change things too much!) . If the series last long enough that could be interesting to tackle, or maybe be a spinoff web series. She also wrote prequel series, and is working on a sequel series which have characters that have roles in the original series, but are not main characters. Because the Mortal Instruments is complete they can't catch up, but they could do a spinoff at some point. It's been a while since I read them, so I don't notice all the changes. As long as certain major plot points are hit and they don't completely change the characters, I'm good. For instance if they decided to have Jace really side with Valentine, that would be too much of a change, and cause ripple effects through the entire series which would make it completely different.
