Hmm... interesting if true. I feel so bad for Jodie Whittaker, who I felt was given very crap scripts and characterization. If the script writing stay at the same level for the next Doctor, I wouldn't have high hope about it. Also, just because Olly is LGBT, doesn't mean the Doctor will be.

Whep, so there is now confirmation of both Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall will be leaving Doctor Who in 2022. Still feel bad for Jodie, but not entirely sad to see the departure of the current happy-go-lucky Doctor. People have mentioned that 2023 will be the 60th anniversary, and DW usually do something to celebrate that. Would be kind of weird to put that pressure on a new Doctor and showrunner to take over on the 60th anniversary. www.doctorwho.tv/news/?article=jodie-whittaker-chris-chibnall-leave-doctor-who

I feel bad for Jodie too, she did a good job in spite of the backlash from all the people who just refused to accept that the Doctor might reincarnate as a woman. I cannot imagine what the next Doctor is in for if they decide to make them a different race or openly queer. It's really sad that the sci-fi genre seems to be rife with so much bigotry, when by its very nature it should embrace "otherness".

I'm sure there are a segment of the fandom that is against the Doctor being a woman, but I feel like there was plenty of other issues. While the previous Doctors been tortured souls who tries to do good, Chibnall made the Doctor into this happy-go-lucky person without a care in the world. Even Smith's Doctor as a fool show many instances of it being a mask he put on to hide his tragic past. Jo Martin's Doctor (ignoring the whole Timeless Child thing) fit with the usual Doctor mold much better and I felt that if Jodie's Doctor was given Martin's Doctor's characteristics, the last few seasons would have gone much better

I think it was also the script and the characterisem, too. But for my self, I dont get warm with both of the last two doctors, the chemistry dont get do me, I didnt feel something. And I missed the classic humor and pingpong between the doc and the companion. And hate the more and more teaching characterizsm, instead of a happyend and the fun in the end. But I also think, the role, like in the past, as a good idol father(mother) figure, dont function today anymore, to get a yough, a family audience for the screen, the ratings sucks. So I can understand, that they want someone new, not a father, mother figure again, instead now a dude/old brother from the neighborhood, a boy next door(sorry for that little joke) type. And I think that is exactly Olly, and I think that he can play/act, is a good actor, better than I thought, that had he proved. But I also dont see it, that because Olly is gay, the doc is in the future also gay, maybe BI or Pansexuel. I think it is like James Bond, Daniel Craig, he was the first Bond without Chesthair, a huge revolution, and he has not a problem to play BI and want instead a bondgirl, for the future a bondboy. But I dont think that this is what we get. Maybe allusion, a little flirt, but nothing more. For that I think are both Shows, to long on board, to traditional, to show more, and that was maybe also the curse with a woman, they want it to fast, to much, to change. But congratulation to Olly, his career goes higher and higher.

Two of Doctor Who's spin-offs (this one and Class) have featured queer male leads, now it's the mothership that will be led by a queer man. It's been confirmed that Ncuti Gatwa won't just be playing the first Black Doctor, he will also be the first gay one! http://instagram.com/p/CgxCBu4M1ra

What exactly is the release schedule of Doctor Who now? I know we have been doing a few Specials. I believe there is one more Special in the fall, where Jodie potentially regenerate into Ncuti. Then we are followed up with the 60th Special sometime next year? When would we even start getting regular seasons of Ncuti, 2024?

Then we are followed up with the 60th Special sometime next year? When would we even start getting regular seasons of Ncuti, 2024? This article does agree with you that Ncuti's first full season as the Doctor likely won't air until early 2024 because he doesn't start filming until November (after reprising his role as Eric in Sex Education season 4, which is currently in production). Given that timeline, it shouldn't be possible for Jodie to regenerate into Ncuti during the next special which will air in October to celebrate the BBC's centenary (unless Ncuti has secretly pre-filmed a short clip for that).

Well, there was the rumor they will have Jodie regenerate but have something goes wrong. The Specials in 2023 will not have Ncuti and Jodie as lead, hence all the old Doctors returning. Like maybe the Doctor keep jumping between old regenerations. At the end of the 60th, the regeneration will be fixed and then the Doctor will regenerate into Ncuti
